Re: Griffin fired!-Prunty interim
The Athletic article is a waste of reading. The only new news is the hiring of Rivers as a consultant, which really doesn't give me a lot of confidence in Horst. Rivers is not known as a guy with expertise in schemes. He's a talker and motivator.
At this point, as long as retreads are your sole option, I opt for Stotts. He's had some time with the team and I assume Giannis, et al would say ok. I was an Atkinson guy (Nurse a close second) before, but we need someone to come in running.

We may never know what really happened but if he leaned on the organization using his contract status as leverage to get them to hire Griffin over the other options he should feel bad. I hope this is a big learning experience/wake up call for him.

Exactly man. I mean, you can't have as many collapses as he has had, but look at what he was coaching. Two of the biggest chokers of all time in CP and Harden, that toxic Simmons situation etc.
Doc is a good coach, he holds people accountable and has the reputation to hold the locker room in place. He's not perfect or an ideal candidate, but miles ahead of Griffin who isn't even qualified to be a coach.

My favorite non-UW college coach and program. I'm not sure I want to go with an NBA rookie, even with his overall head coaching experience, but man do I love me some Jay Wright.
He's an all-time cool-as-a-cucumber dude. Love that guy.

But if Giannis just didn't want to play for Nurse because he personally hates the guy, why did we still end up with AG? That makes it sound like Giannis would have been okay with other non-Nurse options.

About **** time. Now, how will they compound the mistake of hiring him in the first place?

Re: Griffin fired!-Prunty interim
Doc may not be an Xs and Os tactician mastermind. But, at this point I'd be thrilled with a guy simply putting us in reasonable positions to succeed and betting that our talent wins instead of actively being put in disadvantageous positions (constantly).
I'm pretty sure Doc knows more than one defense. I'm pretty sure he is able to implement schemes that reasonably fit his personnel. I'm pretty sure he recognizes elite offensive talent and will attempt to maximize it. And players respect him, especially after Griffin, I'm sure it will sound like a competent adult voice in the room that the players will follow.
Not my first choice but undoubtedly an upgrade.

Also on the Atkinson train, was before the Griff hiring. Or, see if GS wants to just promote him and we take Kerr instead

Re: Griffin fired!-Prunty interim
Wow, it actually happened. Sooo, I guess all those lists of leaks, red flags, issues, etc were not just made up in our heads and ended up being the stuff you hear before a firing, huh.
What a brutal hire, trainwreck from the start. I would hope Doc is not crazy to demand a long term contract but if he is I guess I'd try to find a different route. Tell him something like if you make ECF you get a 2 year extension, make finals 3, win it 5. Obviously that's just spitballing and I know its not how it works. But with the free money he's getting from Philly (though does he forfeit some of that if he takes a new job?) you'd think he'd be flexible. I'm with everyone else that Doc is far from ideal but in the situation they're in he's a pretty stable/safe option, if you can get Stotts back too as O coordinator I think you did ok given the circumstances.

Like he's legit getting fired or he's on the hot seat if they don't improve?
This person I know is well connected. There’s concerns about my trust just because they usually don’t say much, I don’t know them that well, so I don’t really know what to make of it. There’s no timeline so I would read this as turbulence - does that result in a firing at any moment? Probably, if this is accurate.

Fine with Doc as long as no multiyear deal, and I don't think he will hop on without one. Up to Horst to not fork over a 3-4 year deal

Yup. And I've said it before, but if we find ourselves in a position where choking away a 3-1 lead in the 2nd round is a possiblility then we're light years ahead of where we would have been with Grief.

54:30 ~ Doc Rivers talking Bucks on Bill Simmons without disclosing he was a consultant:
- I think this is a finals team.
- They're going to figure out how to play with Giannis and Dame.
- Middleton is starting to come back.
- It has to start with those two figuring out thier process how to make each other better. I think right now they're both playing to be better but not to make each other better. And it's going to come, it's going to click. And when it does, then it makes it easy for everybody else on the floor.
- Giannis is probably going to have to handle the ball less.
- In the Brooklyn series they put the ball in Middleton's hand and Giannis became a roller at time, and now it looks like it's going back the other way.
- So I just think it's going to take time with all of them. But Giannis and Dame will figure it out. I think by the end of the year it'll come together.
- Middleton can't guard as much anymore, I agree with that.
- Yeah they don't have a shut down guard defensively. They had one and they let him go in Javon Carter. Connaughton has been out, the need him back. But he's not a shutdown defender. He's just a great, tough player.

Seems insensitive to hire away a coach under that timeframe. I realize it is a business, but.
Feel bad for Griffin. With the death of his grandson, then getting fired in his first head coach job, that is a brutal several months.
Warriors shouldn't get in the way of their assistant getting a head coach job. if they want to keep him they can send us Kerr instead
unfortunately it feels that it is a foregone decision to pursue Rivers. Who will ask for an expensive multi-year contract

If he's been consulting the team for weeks then I imagine the only way Doc doesn't get the job is if he plays hardball over years/pay for some reason and the Bucks are unwilling which seems unlikely, doesn't seem like there are any other real candidates either

Re: Griffin fired!-Prunty interim
Honestly not concerned about deal length. Our owners are clearly willing to cut their losses when Horst (or they) decides we need to.
I'm sure they don't WANT to give away more money than they need to, but if we do sign Doc for four years or whatever, I'm 0.0% convinced we're actually locked-up. Like, we just fired our (train wreck) coach in exactly half of a season.

Re: Griffin fired!-Prunty interim
Feels really wierd that we are hunting a new head coach mid season with the 2nd best record in the league. I don’t know how many times that has happened and how it panned out, so if anyone is “quick with it” please reply. Also, what does it mean for all the assistants…a new coach isn’t necessarily going to let everyone go cause I’m sure it’ll be hard to find assistants mid season as well. Then how much money to griffin and all the assistants is guaranteed? Feels so bizarre I wonder if we just ruined our title chances im not even sure we had at this point.
Bucks fan since day one. Go Bucks!

Kendrick Perkins or somebody on ESPN made a good point in saying that all of Doc's assistants are with teams already. I guess that will go for anybody the Bucks hire, though.
