Middleton/Johnson to Wash for Kuzma/Baldwin

Really Kuzma sucks as a player nobody but us are trading for him and we gave up our 1st rd pick this yr besides Middleton who is a player even after getting both ankles surgery on. Payton at least use to be a great player something Kuzma never will be.

I'll defend the trade in this sense and this sense only. Saying they're "punting" the season is weird. Punting the season would have been keeping Khris and through nothing but naive, blind faith, thinking his body was gonna magically hold up for a long playoff campaign. That simply wasn't an option anymore.

Furthermore, punting is often the obvious and smart move.

For the record, I wouldn’t have done this deal, like at all. But is there a single fan here who doesn’t think we were too old, too slow to win a ship? I couldn’t handle another Packers series as a fan and that’s why I think we have to move Brook too.

I'm sure many will disagree, but the beginning of the end was winning the title. We were a weak title winner, and the trophy tricked us into thinking we were better than we were. We were a KD jumper away from going down 0-3 to the Nets, a Nets without Harden and who lost Kyrie one game later. Lose that series, and the changes would've been wholesale. Then the Hawks were one of, if not the worst conference finals team in the last 25 years. Suns were a legitimately good team but far from a juggernaut.

Losing in 7 to Boston without Khris just tricked us again. I thought Boston was clearly the better team and a healthy Khris would not have made a difference. Then we lose Giannis against the Heat and get tricked again (Boston beat us by about 100 points at home a few weeks before). Then we lose Giannis and Dame against the Pacers to give us another reason to "run it back."

But look at the underlying numbers even when everyone was healthy. We had a 3 year sample of good, and sometimes very good, but not great basketball. We never really recovered our level pre-Covid level of just smashing teams.

I strongly agree. Trading Jrue and/or Midds summer of 2021 was an obvious move even at the time, but they didn't have the balls (and i wouldn't have either) to trade them at the time and the Olympics didn't help either. Jrue isnt what we needed from a 2/3 on a huge contract and midds never lined up with Giannis's prime.
