Pretty happy we decided to let it go to RFA. For such a cap expert Horst sure isn't doing himself any favors in terms of cap flexibility.

Does being an RFA mean that JP absolutely has to sign with the Bucks if they match another team's offer?
I always thought that to be the definition of rfa. But I ask because I saw a comment in another forum saying something like now that they did not reach a deal, who knows if Jp would even "want" to sign with the Bucks.

His other option would be to play out next season on a qualifying offer then hit unrestricted the following summer. Yea, that would be really risky on his part. Fans are way too worried about offending the players, it's business from both sides and the nature of RFA gives the team all the power.

"Restricted free agent
A restricted free agent can sign an offer sheet with any team, but the player's original team can retain him by matching the terms of that offer. The original team is said to have the "right of first refusal."

Re: The Jabari Discussion Thread - Rehab, Game, Contract - NO DEAL, GOES TO RFA
We aren't out of the woods yet. I think there is a substantial likelihood that Chicago offers him an above market contract in the offseason. If they do and he gets reinjured they are still in their rebuild. If not, they add a nice young talent to a young rebuilding roster.
The problem for the Bucks is all the **** deals we have handed out to guys who shouldn't see the floor means we cannot replace Jabari, much like the Pels couldn't replace Jrue which meant a massive overpay. There aren't a lot of paths to talent when you don't have picks or money to pay FAs. Which means we are almost certain to pay whatever Jabari can find elsewhere. Which could still be really really bad.

Re: The Jabari Discussion Thread - Rehab, Game, Contract - NO DEAL, GOES TO RFA
Sports Illustrated reported that at one point during your rookie season (2013-2014) you told teammates "I'm going to be in Milwaukee 20 years!" Do you stand by that?
Oh yeah. I want to be here. There are not a lot of players that have [spent there entire career with one team]. Kobe [Bryant], Tim Duncan and Dirk [Nowitzki]. I want to be one of them. I think I can do it. But I want to make this team great. I do not want to be here just to be here. I want us to win a championship. That’s my goal. As I said, I’m really stubborn, I'm really competitive. When I set goals, I achieve goals. Hopefully the front office can make the right moves, and bring the great players around me, Khris [Middleton], and Jabari [Parker]. And we can make this run for many years to come in Milwaukee.

Honestly, **** Jabari. You don't need a max contract to be set for life. It speaks a lot on his health if he is unwilling to take less, and if he really did want to be in Milwaukee, he wouldn't have required a max contract. End of story. If Chicago wants to max him and do a rebuild with two players with a combined three ACL tears then good for them.

There is a whole lot of speculation and assumptions being made to garner that reaction.

Good to see this go to RFA.
We will get a feel for him on the court and get a feel for his value come the offseason. There will still be risk with any deal with him. Going RFA also gives us an opportunity to explore FA as well, prior to resigning him.

Being upset at a guy for trying to make the most money he can is pretty stupid. I am trying to think of whatever walk of life where you have that opinion and people would say "yeah that makes sense, you should take less than the open market dictates", it's just silly.
Be happy we have RFA to figure it out and we either give him an extension we are comfortable with, he goes out and gets an offer, or he plays out the QO.

would love to see him run the 3 spot on the second unit with Monroe, Telly, and Delly...really bring some more offensive punch to that unit.

I don't blame him for wanting to get the most amount of money possible out of his first contract negotiation. I just think it speaks volumes to what his priorities are. Do we really believe he likes Milwaukee as much as he claims if won't take a lesser deal? That whole thing about wanting to spend his career here is clearly bull. When he said it was up to the Bucks if he would stay with the team he meant that it was up to the Bucks to give him max money or not. A healthy Giannis with 2 intact ACLs doesn't even have a max contract. How can Jabari even attempt to justify his max contract unless he knows this will probably be the last contract he ever signs? He doesn't care about the city he plays in. He doesn't care about having the chance to play with someone who will be one of the best players in the league. He doesn't care about winning. He cares about getting paid.

Re: The Jabari Discussion Thread - Rehab, Game, Contract - NO DEAL, GOES TO RFA
Every player, including Giannis, prioritizes getting paid. Parker believes in his ability, and knows from experience he can come back and score. If he looks good he'll get a max offer. There's no reason in his mind he should have to accept less.

Part of me wishes the Bucks had given Giannis a max contract extension solely to take that part of the argument away......

Not to pile on (ok piling on a little), it's actually a good sign health-wise that he turned down whatever low number the Bucks just offered. He's betting on himself, so he must be confident in his comeback. If he had doubts, 4/60 might be enough. Good for him, and hopefully us.
