I’ve come way around on Lavine. I used to view him as just another Monta Ellis type of high volume scorer that doesn’t play winning basketball but in the midst of his best season as a pro, I think he could be a needle mover as a 3rd wheel offensive creator that would be happy to take a back seat to Dame and Giannis and situate himself into the offense. His extreme athleticism at least profiles as a capable defender when he’s locked in. I like the overall point of the argument, why are we nitpicking Lavines defense when we’re trading 2 guys that you can’t trust on defense? It makes sense. Lavine and Jalen Smith might be the way.

PG: Dame, Rollins
SG: Ajax, Green
SF: LaVine, GTJ
PF: Giannis, Prince
C: Brook, Jalen Smith

Our defense does not get worse trading Khris/Bobby/Pat/MarJon for LaVine/Jalen Smith.

Question is if we’d have to give Chicago more incentive.

The 2031 second being enough is very different than a first swap or converting the 2031 first into multiple picks or putting strong protections on it (which messes up trading future picks is tradeoff) of course.

Whether Horst/Doc like Jalen Smith as much as Carlisle does and do they think our young guys can fill the gaps enough on the perimeter defense are big variables.

Not to mention whether LaVine really is a “dream fit” here vs the albatross many on this board see him as.

idk.. before we got desperate, was Zach Lavine ever a guy you thought of when thinking about guys you feel like you can count on deep in a playoff run? My gut reaction is he's likely to be a playoff faller instead of a riser.

Would anyone want DeMar? Sounds like is Fox is gone, he doesn't want to be there.

Bucks get: DeMar/Lyles
KIngs get: Lavine
Bulls get: Middleton/Huerter

Yeah we are desperate for young legs. I imagine Mathurin is like AJax with actual basketball abilities. Seems like a rare opportunity if he can be had for relatively cheap.

I agree with the idea that Mathurin is the type of shrewd move you want to make for an old team light on tradeable (or draftable) assets, and in a vacuum I'd have zero problems giving up the FRP in that type of move.

It's not in a vacuum though and I'm uber suspicious about why Indiana is trading him in the first place.

Snippet from the resident Pacers guy from the T&T board on why Mathurin could be available:

We hit insanely well on Nembhard as the guard pairing of the future with Haliburton. We also hit very well on Nesmith and Ben Sheppard. And since acquiring Siakam, Walker has been starting to prove himself a long term contributor at the 3. Add in that we play a ton of 2 PG lineups, and there’s just less need for a dynamic scoring 2 guard like Mathurin.

Surprised at the lack of rumours over the last few days as we get closer to the deadline. Been really quiet.

A new team has emerged as a potential trade suitor for Jimmy Butler. The New Orleans Pelicans have this week registered interest in trading for Butler, league sources tell The Stein Line. The extent of New Orleans’ interest was not immediately clear, but sources say that a firm offer from the Pelicans would be built around the $36 million expiring contract of Brandon Ingram

Heat could trade for Ingram, try to make the playoffs, then either play hardball on his next contract or just let him walk.

That reeks of Miami leaking it out of desperation. Why on earth would the 12-36 Pelicans want to rent Jimmy for half a season?

If I squint and tilt my head just right, I can see Jimmy calling Zion a fatass and motivating him to get into shape?

Wish Jerami Grant didn’t suck. He’s got the ‘athletic 6’8” 225 lb guy that makes positional sense in a Giannis at the 5 lineup’ part of it down, it’s just the being good at basketball part that he struggles with.

Anyways yeah, an athletic defensive SF/PF who isn’t an offensive liability is a must and depending on age/upside I’d potentially put the ‘31 1st on the table for that player type.

There's a weird cult of opinion on this board sometimes. This would be a great deal for the Bucks but the Pacers probably wouldn't be interested in anything were offering.

Mathurin is a good player.

Bucks could add the 2031 1st with protections on it to the trade and have it turn into the 2031 second if not conveyed. Locks up those picks and the 2032 first from future trades though.

Personally, I’d give them a top five protected 2031 first in this case because it gets the Bucks under the threshold, adds a third wheel who can play more than 20mpg, adds a legit switchable big, and avoids paying PatC and Midds a combined $43M next season.
