I generally walk anywhere from six to 12 blocks to the BC for games I go to. I enjoy it. My wife? No way. Always insists we shell out for the overpriced parking deck across the street from the BC. Refuses to go otherwise.

Yep and I dont enjoy walking but I dont like paying for parking so its fine. I would much rather spend the money that would've gone towards parking on food and beer but alas there is nothing around except in the opposite direction of my car so I just go to the game and then go home.

All this talk about walking in cold weather.....has any one ever figured out how many home games were played when the weather outside the arena was below zero the last, say, five seasons? How about below 10 degrees? Below 20?

That's a moot point. Skywalks would be convenient and keep people within the complex to maximize revenue. If done properly and incorporated from the beginning they can be aesthetically pleasing. Every piece of the new development should be connected.

I'm not convinced it maximizes revenue. I doubt more people go to see bad basketball if there's a skywalk...at least not enough to make any significant difference. And when the team is good people will go regardless of the weather.

And I don't care if it maximizes revenue for the team. It's better for the city if that revenue gets spent all over downtown.

I like it. Gives it a unique look. Not many arenas around the league have zinc panels on the exterior. It seems to stand out as a Milwaukee arena, not something flashy that derives from New York or something.

I remember the CorTen steel fad of the 1970s. May still be going on, I don't know. During my misspent youth I walked past the building at Cornell derisively known as "Old Rusty" many times. Its CorTen cladding was a drippy mess of crap-colored streaks back then.I assume the patination/faux-weathering technology is better now.

She's thought about it certain nights as I bypass the $25 lots looking for something for $10 if possible. The good part is my kids understand we make the 12 block walk when I take them to games. Then again they're also wearing jerseys of traded Bucks so they get the program.

I think having everything close will also get the fairweather fans and people just looking for something to do to go. Parking garage with sky walk, mall thats close and few restaurants by the new arena will get the place to sell out more. The team will be better by then and catering a little bit to the non traditional fans will generate a lot of revenue.

But much of that money will not get spent all over downtown. It will get spent in the burbs. A majority of Bucks fans don't live in Milwaukee. After the game if they're hungry or want some drinks they just drive close to home. That's what I do. But if you have food/drink options all connected to the arena many will take advantage of that. And no one is saying more people will go to games if there's a skywalk. That's silly. It's all about keeping people around after the game. For those that want to walk to Water St. or somewhere else in the area, great. You can still do that. For those that don't want to do that and just leave the area there should be options that make you want to stay around after the game. Or come down earlier before the game.

Looking at the design, I assume that when the Bucks play the Grizzlies, Pelicans, Bulls, Hawks, Hornets, and Timberwolves, the players will have to walk in two-by-two.

Meh... Still looks like a spaceship to me; just one made of wood. Would've preferred a more classic look, but I'm sure it will grow on me, just as the primary logo has.

In the end, all that matters to me is that a functional arena that ensures Milwaukee's place in the NBA is being built... Any design will do.

If this was built on grand ave. it would make sense. Connect to multiple structures. What good does it do connecting to a parking lot besides helping 2.5k fans who park there. Am I really going to walking into a parking structure across the street to avoid walking an extra block in the cold unless I'm parking there? Where else would it actually connect? MATC? Arts? The buildings are too small over there to have a massive skywalk system.

What does that have to do with skywalks? Are you proposing a network of skywalks right near the arena? Connecting to what?

They are building a complex where the BC is right now. That can be connected to the MECCA which can be connected to the Convention Center which is connected to the Hyatt. The parking structure can be connected to the Moderne and then to Aloft. It takes a lot of planning but a lot of it would be started just by connect the parking structure to the arena and that to the new developments.

12 blocks? If you get there at 6:00 park on the north side of McKinley, if there are no spots there try MLK from McKinley to Cherry. if still no, then park on Cherry- guaranteed to find a spot there and that is only 6 blocks away at most.
