With the protections on the pick, I love the trade. George Hill is still a really damn good player. 1-10 this team is as deep as any in the league. Still need a back-up C cuz Jason Smith ain't the answer, but whatevs. Bud will make it work.

Can Jason Smith have a Tyler Zeller like impact for this talented Bucks team? :reporter:

They do share that "not Thon" quality that the Bucks have really been missing.

Hill is only 32. I'm confident that, if healthy and motivated, he can still be very useful off the bench. Same for Smith, but to a lesser extent of useful.

We literally traded a cheerleader and a guy who probably wasn't going to play again this season for two guys who can at least contribute something.

Hill could be a solid contributor but I think people have got too high a hope for him tbh. He's old and broken.

24 hours on I still think we need another star for this trade to be a huge ++ win. Can't just dump money and assets to stick with what we got.

Love the flexibility this deal gives them. Now they can trade Brogdon in a deal with Middleton if it brings back a star and not worry that they would be one Bledsoe injury away from 30+ minutes of Delly backing the ball down the court. They also turned two awful contracts into two expiring contracts which allows them to make another deal this season or allows them to sign someone else this offseason and then retain everyone else.

And all it cost was what will likely be a pick in the high 20s three years from now.

I see why people want to wait and see what they do with the flexibility, but no matter what they do in the future, this trade is currently a huge win.

I think all we need from Hill is to be a "solid contributor". He'll have a pretty limited role as a guy who can hit a couple 3s (hopefully) and give us a secondary ball-handler who can somewhat make plays, spell Bledsoe, and give us some positional versatility in the backcourt.

Best-case, he's Brogdon-level in terms of role/usage. But I suspect he's mainly here to take DDV/Connaughton's minutes.

How is expecting him to be a useful bench player having too high a hope for him? No one is expecting Pacers stud George Hill.

Honestly replacing Conny's minutes is going to be a big help to this team. He's been ice cold for a long time.

Obviously we need another star eventually or every single move we've made doesn't mean anything. But this trade makes it easier for us to make another trade this year, sign someone in the offseason, or make a trade next year. It's not going to happen instantly.

Really excited about Hill; I’ve wanted him on the Bucks for years now. Just two years ago in Utah he was a top 10-15 PG. I’m not sure if he’s done yet, could chalk some of the recent regression he’s had up to bad systems in CLE and SAC. If he can stay healthy, the baseline with him is our best shooter. That’s big.

Never said they were? It's a way and see approach really. We aren't even sure if he can be last years Cavs George Hill useful.

Right. It also makes it easier for us to stay under the luxury tax when we bring the band back together. That scenario feels much more likely than creating flexibility to add another star.

Even if he's this year's Cavs George Hill he'd fill a needed role. I guess it comes down to health but we could say that about almost anyone we sign or trade for.

So, worst case, he should be able to cover Delly's contributions.

If I was a Cavs fan I'd pretty much hibernate for 3-4 years now.

So LED have utilized the following #1 picks since buying the team:

2014 #2 overall
2015 #17
2016 #10
2017 #17
2018 #17
Bucks 2020 pick (likely - Suns)
Bucks 2022 pick (likely - Cavs)
LAC 2017 #1 - 22nd overall

That's eight number ones boys. And we have to show for it:
Eric Bledsoe
Thon
DJ Wilson
Donte
George Hill
Jason Smith

Yup. Exactly.

(This is not the George Hill of five years ago.)
