The idea itself is not anything special. The last reboot showed people are not excited about this. Also, there is a new Fast and Furious movie coming out. How many ways are there to film a car jumping off a cliff in to a helicopter?

What are all these creative people who “go to hollywood” even doing all day? Other than plagiarize 1988?

They are working for Netflix, Hulu, HBO, etc. Original screenplay programming, outside of a few established directors, like Tarantino, is dead as studios can make their easy money rebooting Godzilla and Marvel for the global audience.

I didn't hate the most recent Ghostbusters movie. I mean, it was a lot better than Ghostbusters 2.

I've got some hope for this new one but that's only because Ivan Reitman's kid is making it.

Drew, that is a really good point. I think the same amount of creative content is getting produced as in the past, but it is now divided between Hollywood, network tv, cable, netflix, and even web content. The really great stuff used to happen mainly in theaters. Now its spread out.

All I was really trying to say, was Hollywood was essentially a synonym for “creativity” for decades (“wow, you could write for Hollywood”) and its not thought of that way here in the era of 8? Fast and Furious installments.

One episode to go, but Stranger Things season 3 has been the most fun and enjoyable series I've seen this year. Saying this as someone who doesn't remember or care about season 2. But this season has been perfect.

I can completely understand why people wouldn’t like that show. But if you do have fondness for Spielberg, Steven King, George Lucas, etc Stranger Things does a great job of coloring with the same crayons... but then the cast has good enough acting and chemistry to also make it fun on its own merits. Im loving season three too, though it is ridiculous in all the ways 1980 kid movies about Russian invasions are (Red Dawn, Iron Eagle, etc).

Not even recency bias, but this was definitely the best season of Stranger Things.

There's a good show in there underneath all the nonsense they add for no other reason than for shock value.

Anyone watched Absentia ? I saw the first 2 episodes of the 1st season on amazon Prime and looks very interesting (apart from the fact that I find the main male lead a bit annoying).

Stranger things was great. Definitely better than season 2, which I still enjoyed but just behind season 1 IMO.

Really liking Barry too, half way through season 2.

Yea, I definitely think so. I already want to watch it again and listen to the Spotify soundtrack.

I watched the first season. I thought it was pretty slow. The central mystery was fine. I'll probably watch season two but that's more because there isn't much else going on right now.

Handmaid’s Tale has gone from amazing TV to completely unwatchable in like 10 episodes.

Those writers are terribad.

BTW, I didn't realize this, but there's a mid-credits scene in the last episode of Stranger Things.

Spoiler:
I have never seen a mid/end credit scene used better. As I was staring at the credits, processing all the adolescent and teen transition stuff the show ends with... I found myself satisfied, maybe ready to end the show on a high note and save myself from broken expectations of a season four (aged kids, etc). Then the end credit scene came on, and I thought "holy ****, Hopper is still alive, and next season is going to be in Russia" and I'm already looking forward to it.

I think the reason a lot of people missed it is because the ending of the finale seems to wrap up the whole series.

My fiancee was bawling when they read the letter.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

Petty Stranger Things Thoughts:

Spoiler:
The actor that plays Jonathan is so creepy looking, that I find it impossible to think about anything but how corpsey he looks any time he is on the screen

I thought Billy stole the show in the first 6 episodes or so. Great casting, writing, and acting there

Similarly, I think the casting is one of the things that makes this show work. Hopper is a believable brute, heroic but also slovenly and gross. Erica was an awesome character. Millie Bobby Brown is great. Sean Astin and Cary Elwes both brought a fun wink and nostalgia callback without getting in the way. Best of all, as this show hearkens back to Spielberg-esque teen ensembles their chemistry and energy is absolutely parallel with those "Goonies" type flicks.

"Mr Clarke" belongs in the dorky teachers who think they are cool hall of fame along with the guidance counselors from "Freaks and Geeks" and "Bob's Burgers." I love how all three have an enthusiasm that they think is endearing, which actually makes them irritating.

I love everything about this show except for Winona Ryder. Three seasons in, I still can't decide if its the character I don't like, or the acting. Just a lack of warmth, and too much whining. She did act the conclusion scene/move well.

I think Millie Bobby Brown has a chance to have a good enough career where the first thing everyone thinks of when they see her is not necessarily ego waffles and Stranger Things. I was 30 minutes in to Godzilla before I realized she was the daughter. She really is great in this show.

Many fans are saying this is the best season. I'm not sure I agree (season 1 came out of nowhere, was a riveting slow burn of fun and fantasy, set an incredible tone, introduced some memorable characters, etc). What I do agree with is that season 3 was awesome, and a great example of how a show should grow and progress season by season. There was no way this would have been beloved if this (3) was the first season. It took two seasons to get the plot, characters, etc to this point.

The three best surprises/stars of season three were: Erica, the Russians, and the Mall as featured characters.

I think Maya Hawke was the breakout star. She killed it.

She was so enjoyable. Terrific character and easily shot up to my top three from Stranger Things. The Steve/Robin/Dustin chemistry was off the charts.

I still have the last episode to watch, but I’m not as into Stranger Things this season as everyone else seems to be. Every time the show would focus on the main monster I always wished they would get back to the kids vs evil Russians storyline. Definitely my favorite part of the season.
