I decided last night that if Giannis stays with the Bucks, my new goal in life will be to save enough to retire/take a sabbatical during Giannis's fairway tour and go to every game. He's special.

It's a little early to plan for his retirement, but I'll drink to that. Maybe we can get some Giannis fairwell tour busses set up - 20 years from now.

I'm don't think I'm prone to exaggerated praise. But there were moments yesterday where I thought I was watching the best player in NBA history. Obviously the difference between the true GOAT(s) are that they can flash it more often and they make moments happen in the playoffs. But there were these stretches where Giannis seemed to be affecting the game in ways I've never quite seen before from anyone other than him.

Dude is still just grasping his physical prime. He's still getting better.

It's not even about his physical prime, he still makes some mistakes and wrong decisions, and he will improve just from reducing those. There are still at least 5-6 times a game where he looks unsure what he's supposed to do and then makes it up as he goes. At some point he will just know what is the optimal move and default to that automatically. He's getting closer to that but he's not quite there yet.

Only scenario that it makes sense is if they recruit someone next summer. Gasol, Lowry, and Ibaka are gone/end of bench guys at that point. You have Siakam, FVV (who will either be overpaid or regress back to the norm), and Powell. Not exactly a championship squad.

This news would be more spectacular if it said Toronto, or any other team, weren't going to pursue Giannis in 2021.

He already looks gassed with no improvements to his game. There's a reason bron and co. said no to team usa. As it happens the nba is the highest level of prob bball. If giannis wants to really leave his mark, he needs to prioritise and rest. It was disheartening seeing his peers take the time to rest and work to improve whilst giannis joined up with the circus that the greek national team has become. On the later, there's extra incentive to not rock up. There's no spanoulis, diamantidis.

Yes he needs to bail on all of the international stuff. That does nothing to help his game and it actually may have hurt him. Shooting is worse than ever.

The 3pt thing isn't happening.

Look.... Giannis is a creature of habit. His routines during game days are the stuff of legend. He times out his naps, when he arrives at the facility, when he hits the hot tub, how many shots he gets up before a game, etc....

This summer was so far from routine for him. Instead of spending some time with his family, a small trip to Greece, and spending the rest of summer in Milwaukee at the practice facility gym....he instead:

-had a longer basketball season than ever before
-went on MVP press tour
-extended shoe release press tour
-played for the national team
-found out Mariah was pregnant and that he's going to be a dad

He's likely battling exhaustion and now some frustration with his free throw shooting. Gonna take a while 'til things fall back into a place of normalcy.

Yeah I don't get what Giannis is doing TBH. Especially those 3 pointers, what is their purpose? Anything else he does with the ball has statistically a better outcome than shooting a 3. Literally anything.
I thought the whole idea was to accumulate all those shooters so Giannis doesn't have to.

if he doesn't attempt to improve his game...then he's getting worse. he can hit those....and all he needs is to make defenders stay honest and not sag into a wall around the lane.

Nah, even if he became an above average 3pt shooter the smart D in the play offs would still sag off him and form a wall, simply because he still does a lot more damage when he drives. Do the math and you'll see it for yourself, and don't forget to bake in your calc the fact that when he chucks it from 3 he never earns any FTs, and FTs are easily the most efficient shot in basketball. Giannis shooting FTs is more points per possession than Steph shooting threes.

Not every player has to do everything, this thing with the Giannis 3s is an unhealthy obsession IMO. May as well turn around and throw it over his head in the general direction of a Lopez brother.
