Not sure if it's been discussed here already but Disco Elysium is very good.

This is on my pandemic backlog, but I just have such a stupid number of games to play right now.
Does/did anyone play FF14? I did about 5 years ago, but I randomly got back into it and am so in love with it - much more than the first time. I'm working my way through the base game story, which is slow but still fun (lots of other stuff to do), to get to the expansions which are supposed to be among the best RPG storylines of the modern era. Playing solo, at least thus far, is surprisingly easy.

Re: OT: Video Game Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos Thread
Wrapped up the main plot of The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine. The story fork I went down had some particularly fun fairytale content. Maybe one of the best pieces of DLC I ever played; got easily another 45 hours out of the game and there’s still a few side things I could do.
Unfortunately now the question is: what do I play next?

Heavensward is fantastic, Stormblood is only a step down because HW was great, and then Shadowbringers approaches the highs of HW. But man, the ARR end quests before you get to HW.... YIKES. Enjoy it, I love the game a lot.

The other massive piece of DLC.

I played for about 6 weeks around Christmas. It's really good at what it is, but I still fell off of it after about 40 hours. I'm just not an MMO guy anymore.

I'm about 22 hours into FF8 Remastered. Is FF8 the most polarizing game in the series? Maybe 13? Anyways, I love the anime nonsense (FLYING GARDEN WAR!), love the character work, and love the junction system (my spiciest take). I might be on to FF9 Remastered next.

It's probably my favorite card game in video games too. Don't at me Witcher stans.

Agree on favorite card game. It's made an appearance in FF14 - been meaning to check it out.

Already did Hearts of Stone. Went back this morning and cleaned up all the question marks on the map to be thorough.

How about Dark Souls Daughters of Ash or DS3 Cinders?

Re: OT: Video Game Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos Thread
So for the first time in Nioh 1 I made it to Way of the Demon (after Way of the Warrior and Way of the Strong). I spent so much time beefing up my gear in WotS and didn't need to. My strongest piece was a kusarigrim that was 150+7. Literally 10 seconds into my first mission on WotD I get a kusari that's 162+10.
I'm not saying I wasted 50+ hours in WotS because it was fun, but yea, I wasted 50+ hours in WotS.
Meanwihle, even the most basic ass enemies can apparently one hit me. I'm gonna be playing this game until the PS5 comes out.

Happy for your weirdos (I say lovingly) who are into the video game version of BDSM - I ain't here to judge - but I just don't get it. I mean I guess I sorta do having played the last 2-3 leagues of POE which have been **** brutal, but not like Dark Souls or Nioh brutal. Just...not for me.
It's not Nioh but I was reminded of this, which is coming from Sucker Punch after like 3-4 years in dev post-announcement.

Never beaten a Dark Souls game, though I have all three on Steam. I got ~40hrs into the first and hit a wall at Ornstein and Smough. Never went back.
Here’s my backlog:
Dark Souls I - III
Darkest Dungeon
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Hollow Knight
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War
Monster Hunter: World
Pillars of Eternity
Decided for now to tackle Shadow of War, because I think I can get through it relatively quickly. Beyond that, not sure. I’ve been in the RPG mood, so maybe Pillars of Eternity or Hollow Knight would cone after. Debated revisiting Skyrim, XCOM 2, or getting into Path of Exile; but I’m trying to stay focused on clearing out the backlog while I have time.

This is funny, I've always joked on here about how I am a patient gamer - I picked up Shadow of War on a super sale at one point and never played it so I started it last week. I'm enjoying it. I'm a big fan of games with a lot of different types of missions/things to collect, etc. and this hits that spot (also, no missables!). I don't love the combat but it's very similar to the combat in a lot of games that other people love. I think Souls has just forever spoiled me in that regard.

The Dark Souls games aren't that hard (except 2 because they don't explain the rolling/AGI/ADP stuff). There are some pretty OP weapons in each game that make life easier. Nioh 1/2 on the other hand are for masochists.

What sucks is knowing that if everything had gone accordingly I'd be blowing off work to play Cyberpunk 2077 right now...

Re: OT: Video Game Computers/Gadgets/Gizmos Thread
In an unfavorable fight, a captain level orc killed me in Shadow of War. Before he ends me, which means I need to restart the mission I'm on, he snaps my epic sword in half. Part of me, if highly invested in playing just this game, thinks that is kind of cool --- you lost something as a consequence of defeat, and if you get revenge you receive a stronger version of the destroyed weapon as a reward. But on the other hand, it felt really crummy that the game took something cool away from me 10 hours into the game and lowered my level so I'd have to kind of grind the map more to find a new item to tackle hard missions with. Made me want to stop playing for a bit there.
