• Stake: On or about the first day of the all-star break in the 2016-2017 season, loser writes and posts prominently in its own appropriately titled thread on this board a non-ironic essay in praise of the winner, with appropriate citations from previous posts on the Harris subject and others. Essay must be at least 250 words long if I lose and 2500 words long if you lose (the 10/1 odds)
• Disputes arbitrated by paulpressey25; his decision final

I don't think this is good for Orlando, but he shouldnt be hard to move. Good for Tobes though :)
what Orlando's alternative though? Let him walk for nothing. They aren't signing a better player with the space if they do. And as you said it's a movable contract. If thwy want to move him next summer they can unless he has a catastrophic injury or is just horrible some team would take a on him. Nearly every team will have cap space next year and some will need to add 50+ mil ju at to get to the cap floor.

No ****. I don't know how you could come away from that trade NOT absolutely livid. I remember almost reneging on 30 years of Buck fanship at that point. I was an ant's breath from being in the dark and stormy grounds of 'no fan land'. Scary site. Looking forward to reading that essay Sidney...really really looking forward to it.

I actually did step away from my bucks fandom for a bit after this move. I'm an NBA polygamous with equal buck and suns loyalty so it was easier for me.

I didn't watch a game for the rest of that season until, I think game 3 or 4 of the playoffs. Was gutted.

I stopped watching the Bucks that season after they traded Tobes and I realized they weren't any better with Redick. Don't think I watched more than a few minutes of the playoffs. Yet, I watched like 70+ games during the tank season.

Having said that, he just got way overpaid, and it's hard not to compare the deal to Middleton's right now and we just came away so well in this whole ordeal.

Color me stun.

I just presumed the Magic didn't want to keep him when they hired Skiles. If they wanted to keep him and still hired Scotty, they're morons.

“First off, me and Scott have a great relationship,” Harris said. “What people don’t understand is that when he first coached me, I was 18 years old. And from 18 to being about to turn 23 now, I’m a completely different player. Even in Milwaukee, where I didn’t play as much, we still had a great dialogue. He just wanted me to work harder. He just said, ‘Your time is coming.’ So he was always encouraging for me.

“Today, we communicated. He wants me to be a leader. He wants me to lead. He’s a fantastic coach. I think he’s the perfect coach for our team. Actually, I know he’s the perfect coach for our team. And he’s a coach I want to play for. He’s a fiery guy. He gets after you. He has that passion to win, that fire to win. Me and him, we have no problems. That passion, that’s the passion that I play with, so that’s what I love in a coach.”

“First off, me and Scott have a great relationship,” Harris said. “What people don’t understand is that when he first winked at me, I was 18 years old. And from 18 to being about to turn 23 now, I’m a completely different man. Even in Milwaukee, where I didn’t talk as much, we still had a great dialogue - dialogue that was good for what I was capable of saying because I didn't talk that much. He just wanted me to wink harder. He just said, ‘Your time is coming.’ So he was always encouraging for me to wink with my left eye as well as my right.

“Today, we communicated. He wants me to be a mime. He wants me to lead. But, he wants me to lead through gesture only. He's a fantastic magician, you know. He’s an average coach. I think he’s the perfect coach for our team - don't get me wrong. Actually, I know he’s the perfect coach for our team. And he’s a coach I want to play for. I like magic too you know. He’s a fiery guy. He gets after you. Particularly if he flubs a magic trick. You should have seen it when he pulled a dead rabbit out of his hat in Milwaukee. He was fuming. He has that passion to get the trick right. It translates into that fire to win. Me and him, we have different favorite magic tricks. That passion, that’s the passion that I play with, so that’s what I love in a coach. Our little wabbit.”

Tobes is only turning 23 shortly, so still plenty of growth and maturity left in him as a player. I don't see an issue with his deal given their team's circumstances and the knowledge that there are far more ridiculous deals being given out this Summer. If in a few years that team still hasn't made the playoffs and Tobias is the same player, sure it's a garbage contract. A little foreshadowing though, the league is going to be littered with them in 3 years time.

I'll pay the price to keep my 23 year old talent to go with my other young talent.

He's a very limited player though. Thats a very steep price for a guy who has no true position and really only offers one above average attribute. Harris finally had his best year and literally only played at replacement level. The prior years he was pretty poor. While to this day maintain the trade wasnt a great one we dodged not only a bullet but a howitzer on him. Harris is a very flawed player.

Years 3+4 won't look that bad and the Magic really aren't in a position to be letting any good, young talent walk even if they might be hollow number guys.

I think it is an overpay. Statistically, Harris' numbers and efficiency haven't improved the last 2 years. It is quite a red flag when a 20 year old playing 30+ mins/game does not put up better #'s at ages 21 and 22.
