If he was such a great drafter why was he unable to build a championship caliber foundation in 9 yrs?

Hell. If he was this good drafter you'd think we'd have more than two seasons over .500 during his tenure.

Drafting is only part of his job, and most of the first round picks weren't particularly high--the no. 15 that got Giannis was typical, for example.

Add to that the totally abysmal trades, awful player contracts he handed out, and the coaches during his tenure. It's not that surprising Hammond ends up with that kind of win percentage despite being an above average talent evaluator. He doesn't have to be terrible at everything to be a bad GM.

Somewhere Hammy and his wife are kicking back with a glass of riesling, talking excitedly of the warm times ahead and waiting for removalists to start ringing them with offers.

Which current GM has a stellar drafting track record though? If you look at that list above of every GM, which would you confidently say has a better drafting track record? Hammond is one of the better drafters in the NBA. He had a terrible track record of signing rubbish free agents--you can't defend the guy on this point.

But drafting a huge part of building a successful long-term NBA team and he did that pretty well. Most team would love a Giannis/Thon/Jabari/Brog return from the draft to build around.

hes a failure because redd, bogut, and sanders careers were altered by injury?
hes a failure because he didn't draft a superstar fast enough?
or just that when he did he drafted him too late or so young?

Hammond has had a hand in assembling enough talent to run a string of 50 game winners. hes had bad luck at the top of his rosters and that's a fact. you cant win in this league without top tier guys. and when you keep losing your best guys, your top assets, in the worst market in the league.... youre not going to build a consistent winner.

luckily after 9 years he seems to finally have given a bit of good health and fortune with the cornerstones. whoops... forgot about parker and middleton.

Only John Hammond can draft role players and dudes out of the league in the first round and get credit for that.

Well, you've done it, you're a droolin' mess...

You're so obsessed with pushing your hate you're literally saying anything to justify it. Fact- no matter how hard you try spin it, Hammond chose not to sign Jennings and traded him for Knight/Midds... Let that wash over ya.

-Hammond offered Jennings an extension.

-Jennings told him to shove it.

-Hammond traded Jennings to DET for Knight and Middleton.

Those are the facts, whether you wanna believe them or not.

Do we only give credit to GMs who hit every pick in the draft? Which teams/GMs do you think have a better track record in the draft? Thunder definitely do, maybe the Warriors also but it's pretty debateable after that.

Who's the gold standard for a GM in the draft?

He may be the dumbest poster on this board. Like, ever.

Don't bother.

Imagine how many more assets we could have with a competent GM.

The sustained mediocrity is the worst part. One accidental tank year, that's it.

You're a drooling mess. Why can't you just be happy for a clock that's trying its best?
