Well, if you're picking between a bunch of players who are roughly equal, why draft the guy who's basically a lesser version of 2 young players you already have?

Maybe you don't think they're roughly equal. Maybe you believe specifically in the player who seems to be redundant, and maybe you don't take the health and continuity of those other players for granted.

Bassey to me rises and falls with his jumper.

Watching this a little bit at a time, but the jumper looks really good so far in this one. Just backing up from Fall and drilling em.

If you think the prospects are basically equal, then yeah, it makes sense to take one that has more opportunity to play a role. I'm not sure the prospects being basically equal is true though. I think Jerome is significantly better than basically any of the other prospects expected to be near our pick (excluding the Euro guys that I just don't know much about right now).

He's shown the ability to shoot it and was 77% at the line this year, which is promising. Seems like a hard worker, runs the floor well, pretty high ceiling there, imo.

I think he's a second rounder in an average draft - just don't see how he'd be significantly better than a bunch of other prospects picking at the end of the first round. He's got some skills and tougness, but he's well below average physically for an NBA player.

Yeah, I can't say that Jerome is significantly better than anyone in the early-to-mid 2nd round range. What I do see in him is a very defined NBA role that could be valuable. If he's the best upside pick at 30 then so be it. I'm not sold on any of the toolsy, athletic bigs in that range (Gafford, Bassey) and there's like 5-10 guys that I'd probably be ok with taking a shot on. Dream scenario would be if a guy like Jontay or PJ Washington slides all the way to us, but that's probably unlikely.

Yeah, I'm seeing Washington mocked around us. That's crazy. He's mid-first quality imo. If he's there you don't think twice. You take him.

I would be surprised if Jontay isn't on the board when we pick. Don't see anyone investing 1st round $$$ on those knees. I guess maybe a team with multiple picks like Boston could roll the dice.

Washington is interesting, but I really dislike the fit. He and Hachimura are in the same tier for me as tweener bigs without ideal perimeter skills. Does he just take DJ's role?

Bassey is miles ahead of Gafford for me because he has shown the ability to stretch the floor and has a great size/athleticism/work ethic profile.

We need to figure out how to get ahead of Toronto if Kabengele declares.

ETA: nm, Toronto doesn't have a pick.

Barring disaster. It's protected 1-7 next year.

Aubrey Dawkins?

That was my first thought as well except I looked at his game logs and he was really good from about Feb 10th onward. Didn't miss a free throw after Feb 13th.

Anywhere between 20 and 60 imo. Huge range. Does a lot of things but nothing at a high level.

I love Fi and would be really sad if he didn't come back to FSU next year, but seeing him in the Green and Cream would be awesome. He really balled out this year after flashes last year.
