You also forgot Mayor of Kingstown. Dude's a machine.

Forgot about that. Watched the first one and stopped. I may revisit. I also forgot he acted in most episodes of season 1 Yellowstone.

Kansas City is interesting because he's doing it with Terrance Winter (Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire).
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Succession:

Spoiler:
Finale had everything I wanted. Random thoughts and opinions:

I was 98% certain Logan would win but I wasn't sure who would cave. The entire time I was waiting for Romulus to do it but wasn't surprised how it played out.

Kendall getting honest was a great story and character development tool. It alleviated the sibling tension and attracted compassion to all three. Like, you know they behave monstrously at times but intellectually you know it's not their fault - it's intergenerational. I love how Roman just cannot bear the weight of his or the family's shame and has to diffuse with humor at every turn.

As much of a despicable human being Logan is, he's correct - those children (and they are children) are not prepared to run the company BUT it's because of him, not a true failing on his kid's part.

The table is set for who I'm rooting for next year, just not in the way that I think. I don't want the kids to somehow gain control of the company but I want them to realize that the power and control it provides is all an illusion, and their relationships with each other are all that matter. But that's not Succession so I'm not holding my breath. I also want Logan to die in a nasty way. That feels dirty and satisfying to type.

Those performances were *chefs kiss*.

Finally, take a bow if you had Tom on your bingo card.
Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Succession assuming the big sale goes through the kids would still get a massive payday for their shares, correct? Sure I know they're young-ish so would still like the prestige/power but they've all been kind of flailing so should they so desperate to not just put a few hundred million in the bank and just enjoy themselves. I know it's a TV show and people in this world ultimately run off greed, but someone like Kendall was already asking just to be cashed out and not be involved.

Spoiler:
Right, their stock doesn't just disappear. That's just not what they care about. I've been wondering for a while why Kendall didn't just cash out at the first opportunity and go start his own company with all his ideas, and was thinking he felt he had something to prove specifically about changing Waystar (ironically, the events of this season proved all his big picture estimations about the direction of the company to be totally correct -- they were dying and he was the only one whose ideas about how to revive were on the right track).

But, this episode was definitive for me in showing that it wasn't [exclusively] about showing up Logan or an emotional attachment to the family brand.

I thought that "eldest son" scene with Con was such a great way to illustrate how entitled all of them are to running the company, and then the obverse of that in the scene with Logan at the end where they accidentally all admit that deep down they don't believe they can hack it on their own merits. They need Waystar to be relevant. They would obviously care if they lost their money, but the money they take for granted. It's not about that. It's about the power, and they don't think they can have it any other way. If they did, they'd just take their billions and go make it happen.

I don't give a damn about Jimmy at all. Just. don't. care.

I didn't mind the first couple of times we went to him and Travis was giving him **** but I don't know where these random scenes are actually going. First thought they'd only be around for one episode and we'd never see him again until the new show? But it's been bizarre that we keep going back to him.

Spoiler:
My take on why Kendall didn’t take the money and run is that he has ideas but doesn’t really have the follow through to put them in motion. So when he is off on his own, he is just interested in what is trending - he is just stalling rather than doing anything - but he really is impotent as far as being able to get anything done.

Maybe some of it is to stick it to his dad but it is also about staying with Waystar because it is still a shelter for him and is a comfy place to be. That is why his dad wants them to be off on their own and make them get it in their own effort.

Also, I think Greg ends up the victor at the end.

Wow!

This is actually an incredible story. But yeesh, that production quality is laughable and I can’t take Kevin James even semi seriously.

This is way more Nick Cage and Kevin James than I had bargained for today.

I haven’t watched any of Sheridan’s other stuff but my wife and I find Mayor of Kingstown to be very good. The scenes with Renner and Bunny really make the show.

Eh, I thought the whole meta Nic Cage stuff was funny precisely because you weren't sure if it was intentional or not. But as always, it usually stops being funny once everyone gets in on the joke. Lot of stars in it so maybe it's worth checking out, but to me the "trying too hard" and aggressively unfunny risk looks pretty high.

Now if we want to talk about a film with the the highest unintentional comedy upside, that Sean Payton movie, like......WTF?

 I'll try not to. Storywise, it's definitely a lane I've been trying to drive down for a while. Think Elmore Leonard. Just some good ol' fiction with fun characters and tinges of truth.

I can't tell you when it'll be released, so I'll just take a cue from my favorite sports team and say we are ahead of schedule.
