Part of the league's problem with ratings is probably due to their national coverage only focusing on the stars of yesteryear, who have almost no chance of winning a title again in their careers. They should be promoting Denver, Cleveland, Houston, Memphis, and OKC. Instead, they just keep talking about dudes in their mid 30s.
This along with NFL season being more favorable to fantasy sports, so casuals will watch any game because they have investment in it from someone in their fantasy team. This leads to lots of talking heads discussing every team.
