Somebody get Little Cleo to make a movie's ranking with tiers. Would be the most amazing reading material ever.

I haven't watched Westworld because I'm still bitter that Nolan decided to do that series before Foundation.

For those of you that like British comedy, check out Detectorists. Funny and heartwarming show, and one of the recurring characters sports a Bucks cap. No joke.

After a meh premier last week, It's Always Sunny killed it this week. One of the funniest episodes I've seen.

2. OJ: Made In America
3. Game of Thrones

6. Captain America: Civil War
7. Central Intelligence
8. Independence Day: Resurgence

That is all. Have a nice day.

I paid actual money to see it. It was so so bad. My worst investment of 2016. :noway: I went it fully expecting a cheesy silly stupid movie, but thought it would still be some fun popcorn scifi entertainment, it's Independence Day!

But it was so so so bad. Just so bad, even with almost zero expectations I couldn't believe how bad it was. Oh man. :nonono: I'd have rather just taken a blowtorch to the money I spent on that movie, that would have been a hell of a lot more entertaining than that pile of garbage.

This Top 25 movie list/some of which he likes(I'm kidding) just confirmed how few movies I watch. I definitely have a strong preference for shows now.

Hush- also loved it. Legit creepy when she gets the message to her ipad from her own phone. (spoiler alert- it's a home invasion film, deal with it)

The Invitation - didn't realize that was a 2016 movie, enjoyed it. I like a good mind F and this was weird and interesting enough.

I loved the OJ 30 for 30 if that counts. Episodes 2-4 were amazing. First one was good background and set up, last one was just depressing.

Would be curious to hear everyone else's, I've done the same with my friends and we all kind of like different episodes. Makes for a fun discussion. There's been at least one or two all time greats each season thus far, imo.

I'll go with

...

Now I'll say that every ep was a 7/10 so I'll rank based on that.

10/10
Entire History of You
San Junipero

9/10
15 Million Merits
National Anthem
White Bear
Shut Up and Dance

8/10
White Christmas
Nosedive
Playtest
Hated in the Nation

7/10
Men Against Fire
Be Right Back
Waldo Moment

For those of you who liked the San Junipero episode of Black Mirror, check out the book Altered Carbon. Netflix bought the rights and is filming 10 episodes based on it, but I don't think they've started yet. It takes the uploading/downloading consciousness premise to a whole nother level.

I'm not getting my hopes up for the Netflix series because I think you need a Hollywood budget to do it justice.

Saw Room tonight, one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Brie Larson being terrific wasn't much of a surprise, but that was an unexpected masterpiece by that child actor.

Yeah, "Room" is very good. The whole cast is excellent.

And they succeeded. 2+ hours I'll never get back. Such a pointless movie.

I have no problem with you or anyone else not liking the movie but it definitely had a plot, story, and ending. What it did not have was closure.

BTW, our group of four that went to see it was very split afterwords, a couple thought it was nothing special at all, myself and another friend thought it was incredibly well done and clearly Oscar worthy.

I think that movie was true to life. Life is messy and complicated. This isn't the kind of movie to see if you are looking to escape for a few hours. It was contemplative and I appreciated that they didn't treat the story with kid gloves. It made me happy, sad, fearful, and angry. I go to those kind of movies for a range and depth of emotional response. In that sense 'Manchester by the Sea' succeeded for me.

Chainsaw and Buzz give it two thumbs, way up.

Started Black Mirror and jumped around for my first three episodes.

I'd rank them:
Nosedive
San Junipero
15 million merits

All three were incredibly well done and I can see why people gush over SJ.

Personally, Nosedive was one of the best hours of TV I've ever watched. Fantastic acting and a social commentary that felt much too real. It presents like an episode that someone who isnt intrigued by the overarching BM premise could still enjoy.

Just watched 1 in a billion on Netflix. A 1HR documentary on satnam Singh journey from farm boy in a remote village of India to draft day. Really enjoyed it.

ReasonablySober wrote:I've almost exhausted on my movies of 2016 list. I'm sure I'll see Moonlight, Arrival, Don't Think Twice, Doctor Strange, and Jackie eventually, but nothing else on the list looks interesting.

Here are my top 25 of 2016:

1 - Hell or High Water
Part western, heist movie, and reflection of our financial times. One of the super rare movies where I legitimately wouldn't change a thing. The soundtrack was absolutely amazing.
Grade: A

3 - Hush
It was a great year for horror. Like, really great. I haven't been able to say that in a long time.

Hush was my clear favorite. Home invasion flick with a couple twists, the obvious one being that the protagonist is deaf and mute. The movie builds suspense in a way I don't remember other similar movies pulling off. John Gallager Jr. was the definition of menacing.
Grade: A

5 - Don’t Breathe
Another awesome home invasion movie with a twist. In this one there really aren't any protagonists. Even the characters the film tries to make the ones you root for are generally **** people. But the film is super suspenseful and goes in directions you absolutely won't expect. My jaw was on the ground a few times. Legitimately scary.
Grade: A-

6 - The Accountant
It's autistic Jason Bourne and I'm not sure I can remember better Affleck. Just a super solid movie with an excellent final act. I go into action movies expecting to be underwhelmed but this was just really good from start to finish.
Grade: B+

7 - Rogue One
A Star Wars movie that felt like a war movie. I think you can definitely nitpick parts of the film (hated Forest Whitaker's character, and the decision to bring back digital Peter Cushing was horrible), but I enjoyed seeing a Star Wars movie that didn't seem like an advertisement for toys. The final 3rd was among the best stuff the series has done.
Grade: B+

13 - Green Room
Brutal, timely (unfortunately), and kinda overrated. I've seen this pop up really high on a lot of lists from people who watch way more movies than I do, and I don't entirely get it. I think it's a good flick and worth watching, but like a lot of indie terror films of recent years (Babadook, It Follows), I think it's getting a lot of unearned praise.
Grade: B

20 - Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
I really liked the first Jack Reacher, but this one felt like everyone mostly mailed it in for a cash grab. Bumping it up to a rater R movie might have allowed a more mature plot. As it stands this felt like a two hour episode from a CBS procedural.
Grade: B-

My thoughts on some of these:

1. Hell or High Water-- Fabulous movie. Watched it a second time and was just as good during the second viewing.

2. Hush-- I agree with you that it was really good. Most horror movies i think suck for varying reasons, but this was surprisingly good.

3. Don't Breathe-- Not terrible, but that's about it. This was basically a dumbed-down version of Hush.

4. The Accountant-- The premise and beginning of the movie would have been ok if not for the typical over the top action that follows where Ben Affleck manages to become some untouchable Rambo like killing force because well he's autistic.

4. Rogue One-- Started out good, but like The Force Awakens, dragged on to long, especially the never ending battle scenes which could have been cut in half so i wasn't left yawning.

5. The Green Room-- Like so many horror movies, it could have been so much better. Frustrating because i love really well made scary movies, but don't come around often.

6. Jack Reacher 2-- Didn't see it so usually i wouldn't comment, but with as horrific as the first one was, you'd have to pay me to see part two. The ending to part one was as bad as it gets as Tom Cruise armed with a knife managed to kill about a dozen guys armed with automatic machine guns. My brother dragged me to the theater for that and it was even worse than i expected.

Saw Hush and the Accountant. Hush was ok. I really liked the Accountant.

Updated (still in progress) Black Mirror episode rankings:

Eternally GOAT tier:
1) Nosedive
2) San Junipero (perpetually growing on me)
3) White Christmas

Sucks that Nosedive is the first episode I watched as it set the bar unrealistically high.

Fantastic, just comparatively not top tier:
4) The Entire History Of You
5) The National Anthem

Lack the flare of higher tiers, still enjoyable television:
6) White Bear
7) Fifteen Million Merits
8) Shut Up And Dance
9) Playtest

This last grouping is pretty interchangeable. The ending of FMM is enthralling but the episode drags for too long building up to that. Playtest captivated me up until the sudden ending, which was a monumental letdown.
