Not sure we can really afford to draft and stash with our cap situation and lack of depth. We really need to have these two cheap salaries on our roster so that we can use as much of the MLE as possible.

True, but between Thanasis and 2-3 rookies and G-league guys, I think it's a tricky proposition for a contending roster to have that many spots taken up by players who probably aren't NBA contributors yet/likely never will be.

Makes sense but at the 60th pick, you could get the rights to one of these guys and then sign the kind of player you're talking about. With all our roster spots and visibility, would think that UDFAs would be pretty hot for us.

If you're sitting at 60 and trying to decide between Eboua and Merrill, call up their agents and see if Eboua is good with being stashed and if Merrill will sign regardless.

I'd still happily take some of the guys that I expect to be UDFA, but one of the Brewhoop writers was saying he talked with a cap guy and they said UDFA are no cheaper than the minimum contracts that we can theoretically sign ring-chasers with so might not be the best use of our cap either.

I feel like if Markus Howard played at Ball St. nobody would even be bringing him up.

I’m all in on Killian Tillie. Could be Alex Lin or poor man’s Marc Gasol

I'm sure plenty of people would be bringing up any Division-I college player that puts up almost 30 PPG on that kind of 3PT efficiency and volume.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that. Non-draft picks count vs. the apron at the 2 year vet min level, same as other vets. So yeah, you've got to roster that pick unless there's really nobody you want to roster. And the only time you'd want a UDFA is if you really liked them more than whatever vet you could otherwise put in that spot.

Also Marquette plays better teams than Ball St. does.

That said I think we'll be talking about Jhivvan Jackson next year (there, I just did) even though he plays for a losing team in Conference USA.

Mr. Irrelevant is always a good slot to draft and stash and then completely forget where you stashed it. Then, 84 years later, a local news channel does a human interest piece on a newlywed couple that finds the draft pick in a cardboard box in the attic of the house they just bought. The only clue as to its origin is a note in a FedEx envelope that reads: "Solid shooter, needs to build strength. Could use more experience against upper-level competition."

Vit is a guy I've had my eye on for a while. Nice feel for the game, especially on the offensive end where he plays within himself. I had him going much higher. I think he would be the perfect Vit for this team.

(Just kidding. Never heard of him.)

I don't think a "well if he played at a worse basketball school against worse competition" is a logical take but I get your overall point. I'm not sure I see a successful NBA player, but if he wants to go overseas I think he could have a nice professional career. He's a tough one to judge though because of how Marquette's offense turned into "give Howard the ball and let him do whatever", he had as green of a green light as you can get.

This is my biggest question mark with him. How much of it is engrained mentality, and how much of it was that they just gave him the keys and he went with it? I don't know enough as a non-Marquette fan. You would hope that a guy that's taken 60th would understand his role isn't to be a volume shooter, but some guys just can't break that mentality and understand they their actual NBA role is to stand in one spot and shoot only if and when they are passed to and open.

I feel what you're saying but I don't really follow college hoops at all so I don't have the Marquette bias.

For you college b-ball guys, how does Howard compare to Carsen Edwards? Similar at all?

Did Howard lose to Virginia in the NCAA tournament? I can't remember.

John Hollinger published his top 23, which includes a few guys that could be in play at 42 if we have the pick.

You joke now, but trading the draft rights of 42-year old Lukasz Kolenda in 2040 is gonna be part of the deal that brings in Liam Antentokounmpo.
