I'm not for making deals just to "shake things up". That's dumb. But we can't keep guys just because they are popular and helped us win a ring. And Horst showed he won't do that by trading Jrue. So I do expect some championship guys to be gone. It will be sad but necessary. However, it takes 2, or more, to make a deal and sometimes the right deal just isn't on the table.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Pre draft there was a little discussion of if the Bucks were making Brook available and if it is a mistake on XM NBA radio, forget which show. I guess the pro side argument was it's possible Doc doesn't want to play drop, that due to a host of other reasons like we are old, there are defensive needs we don't have bodies for to account for the perimeter and penetration, plus when the Bucks moved on from Griffin and Doc had a whack at it, it was better but didn't work great. If you decide that if you have Brook, you play drop which is a guarantee. And further decide we need some ancillary pieces to make that work better and we have only vet mins, a Bobby trade, a Patty C contract to get it you may just Move on from Brook even if it seems like a step back. Not sure I buy it but I understand the position.

Maybe it was delusional to think there were guys in the draft that could contribute sooner than later but regardless we didn't get any of those players, I'm just not sure there is deal to be made with Brook that doesn't fill one hole while opening another without any good way to fill it.

Keldon Johnson sucks. I seriously don't get why anyone sees any more potential there. He's a Beasley level defender without the great shooting. Flipping Brook for him makes the team significantly worse.

Turning Brook into Keldon Johnson + something and flipping Pat to open up our TPMLE to sign a Center isn't my ideal off-season but it isn't bad.

Grimes was just traded, not sure he can be repackaged with another player.

And I assume Dallas is a second apron team anyway. If so, they can’t do a 2:1 trade, right?

Sochan would be a sneaky good add. Still really young and his ability to guard bigger wings would be a great addition.

This is where having Utah take Flip right before us was a back breaker. I think that guy could have put in 10-15 minutes of passable back up big work right out of the gate.

Our big problem now with trading Brook is we don’t have that MLE or TPMLE to go out and sign another decent big body. In 2018 we gave Brook a $3mm a year prove it contract. We can’t even offer that much at the moment over the 2nd apron.

Is the deal official, or made post July 1st? It could be expanded if post July 1.

That said, my guess is Dallas wants Grimes for themselves.

I think it's much more plausible they trade Bobby, and force Tyler Smith into backup 4 minutes this year. Not really sure what Bobby's trade value is, but it should be good enough to upgrade the starting SG, as it is a really low bar.

Gafford and Grimes for Brook is good if it saves us cap money. Both are underwhelming players but that’s a trade that makes some sense for both teams.

I personally like both of those guys a lot, especially Gafford. I do that trade pretty easy assuming it's even legal.

ReasonablySober wrote:Like I said in the draft thread, Fischer isn't the only one who thinks of Smith that way. Vecenie and the dude on the broadcast with him thought he was a center too.

Their thinking lead to my thinking of him only as a center. After realizing he's a big wing, I think about him very differently. He's definitely not a center.

I wonder how much they're evaluations of him change if they project him as a big wing?

Why would the Mavs trade Gafford for Brook?
