Giannis and Brook will give Bud a warm welcome.

But they sure don't miss his coaching.

My lasting impression is watching Bud, after standing around for 90% of a timeout, sitting down and telling the team in 15 seconds what he wanted. Brook and Giannis would get up after 5 seconds and turn their head and walk away.

Bud was a good coach for 95% of his time here. Behind Giannis and maybe Khris, he was the third biggest reason for us going from mediocre to contender basically overnight. I think his implied input on player acquisition and roster changes are super underrated.

It was time to move on though, same thing with Jrue. Though I don’t blame anybody looking back at both moves and wondering if we would’ve been better off staying put.

I would put Lopez before Bud there.

I personally think the effectiveness of Brook in Milwaukee is largely due to Bud but I understand that’s debatable so I won’t push back too much on that.

Seems like the "I'm sick of talking about him" people tend to be the ones who always yell the loudest whenever his name comes up. I imagine it's hard for anyone but the most stubborn critics to not concede that he at least brought a much needed culture change and modernization to this franchise after decades of treadmilling and stagnation, even if one could argue his inevitable firing was defensible.

But after all, the dude with the "Fire Bud" sign at the championship parade probably sums up the fickle nature of fan(atic) sentiment to a tee. A truly terrible coach that we somehow accomplished great things with. I just hope that we can somehow luck into another coach as terrible as him some day.

Bud brought needed culture and modernization, and by the end of his tenure, we once again needed a culture and modernization upgrade. Both can be and are true.

The results of Bud's stagnation as a coach have been broadcast loudly all season in Phoenix.

I basically agree, but Bud needed Brook in that role. Brook was a special talent.

Brook is basically the textbook example of a guy who needed the right coach(s) and scheme to completely unlock his potential lol. It's like, him and Steve Nash.

I would say better off staying with Bud if the alternative is what we did, but better off trading Jrue for Dame.

I was ok with letting go of Bud at the time though I had reservations. Ok with letting him go because of our dramatic and repeated collapses in that series, and reservations because he was a good enough coach that downgrading was more likely than upgrading. We needed a new voice but chose unwisely. Twice.

I don't see a good argument for keeping Jrue that isn't totally sentimental, although in hindsight, I'd have probably gone with the kind of trade I now favor for Dame (for young vets I strongly believe in but who haven't yet had the kind of opportunity we'd give them).

BUCKnation wrote:I think we play much worse with Giannis and no Dame vs Dame and no Giannis, mainly due to depth. Before KPJ, we didn't really have anyone to replicate what Dame does. With KPJ now, we should be more competitive.

Usually with no Giannis, we can replace him with Bobby and he does his thing to a 20/10 statline.

The numbers show we're a top 4 team with Giannis only, and a bottom 5 team with Dame only.

Sweet, so Dame might be legit injured and the “soreness” stuff might be BS. Also, fire Doc.

Both are true. I don’t want to take away from all the hardwood and skills Brook clearly has

The Suns released an update from Bud, "Bradley Beal is progressing".

Me sitting here looking at all my posts saying wtf are we playing for just rest Dame and Giannis intermittently and pull them early in blowouts or unwinnable games.

That's Doc "never been swept" Rivers to you. Give the man some credit.

It is is what it is. It’s part of my legacy. There’s nothing I can do about it. I got a team that was an eight seed up 3-1. That is coaching. That is not bad coaching. The one with the Clippers is the only one that got away. But people don’t realize that Chris Paul was running on one leg \[in 2015 with the Clippers\] and we were also the underdog in that series. When you think about it, Houston had home court, not us.

No one tells a real story. And I’m fine with that. It’s unfair in some ways. I don’t get enough credit for getting the three wins. I get credit for losing. I always say, ‘What if we had lost to Houston in six?’ No one cares. One of the things that I’m proud of is we’ve never been swept. All the coaches have been swept in the playoffs. My teams achieve. A lot of them overachieve and I’m very proud of that.

Kyle Kuzma could get closer to winning our hearts tonight by locking up Kevin Durrant.
