...and found that Giannis ranks 22nd, all time, in MPG for 19 year old rookies:

Of the 21 players who averaged more MPG, only 3 were drafted later than Giannis-- Parker 28th, Smoove 17th, JR Smith 18th. (Harkless was drafted 15th as well but only averaged about 90 seconds more per game than Yanni his rookie year).

The average draft position of players with more MPG as 19-year-old rooks was 6th.

Not bad for a guy many of us feared might be a D-leaguer, or even a Euro-stash project his first year!

Of course, this is all mitigated by the fact that we're having a world-class crappy year, have had tons of injuries, and have literally no reason not to play him alot of minutes but hey... :D

Granted the total sample size is only 81 players.

Here it is sorted by MP:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... rder_by=mp

Lots of hall of famers and allstars ahead of him. He will probably finish around 15.

I know Giannis is raw, but the great ones were great event at that age. Hopefully we some improvement with a full nba offseason.

I was doing some reading about Dirk, and his making the top 10 in scoring. Some interesting comments that made me think about Giannis and perhaps his future. No, I'm not saying he will be Dirk, but just thoughts on his talent, already.

Yeah, I could see a similar trajectory for Giannis. Of course his skill-set is different, and it remains to be seen whether Giannis has the kind of long-term work ethic and determination required to make good on his promise.

Can't wait to see a season review highlight film for Giannis just to be reminded of his insane ceiling.

Yeah someone needs to add about 5 more minutes to that video. I love the commentary voice over in the video though, it's much better than random hiphop music.

I hope we see a 10 minute long highlight made by a Bucks fan. This kid has been electric on a team full of people giving half effort.

I like Giannis, but I'm not head over heels enamored; I'm not star struck. I have doubts on his certain greatness. I understand his physical gifts; quickness, long arms, and height. But all I've seen are monster dunks (yawn), a few nice passes, and some great blocks.
What are/will be his weaknesses? What should he improve this off-season? What do you not want him to do? What player should he become like? What moves do you want to see him use? What in basketball could derail his trek to greatness?
I admit to being a terrible judge of talent and having minimal knowledge of the game of basketball.

He needs to attack more on offense too many times he got stuck in the corner. Maybe that was by design but there were so many broken plays that he didn't force himself to get the ball. He also needs to work on his j. He can't cut to the basket if they don't respect his jumper

Loving his potential but I'd be lying if I said I'm buying into him being that superstar guy. I think he can and I'd be disappointed if he didn't turn into a Kirilenko type guy though. Potential's there for more, but that's where I'd be leaning my hat right now. Somewhere around that 3/4 guy on a championship team.

Hadn't seen this thread in awhile. This is pretty much where I stand on Giannis, well said.

I'm not saying he reaches it, but given his skillet, I think his ceiling is Pippen. They have a lot in common in terms of game.

Without talking about his playing caliber, I really see him developing into our team captain down the road. Hopefully our new coach will have him bringing the ball up court more and not just when he grabs rebounds.

I'd say prime AK-47 would be better than a 3rd or 4th best player. That's pretty easily a 2nd banana who is easy to construct a team around.

For being the youngest guy in the league combined with going from playing against the Greek B squad league to playing against the best of the best, all I can say about Giannis I'd cheers. Combine that with paying his first 82 game schedule and the kids was just burnt out both physically and emotionally towards the end of the year.

My hope is that they are setting him up with an off-season program that builds his strength, endurance and overall skill.

I also don't see any way that Drew is back next year and that whoever the new coach is will understand that it's probably a good thing to create plays for Giannis in a much much larger ratio than what was seen this year.

The kid is a player. Simple as that!

Prime Kirilenko had some really, really, really gaudy xRAPM numbers. Like, +4 offensively AND defensively.

Kukoc was a far better player at Giannis' age, since he could shoot and run a team very well already. At least Giannis projects to be a better athlete.

I would prefer Giannis really limiting his summer playing time. He needs to work on his skillset more than his team game.
