People don't give Thanasis enough credit as a player or what he does for the team overall, he's definitely not the worst guy on an NBA roster and he plays with such a crazy amount of energy that he's kind of an unconventional sparkplug. Giannis didn't become who he to he is today on his own and you don't think his big brother helped play a role in forming that work ethic, competitive drive, and maybe a bit of that charm too? I'm biased, we all know how close the brothers are with each other and I just enjoy watching them as a human being getting this incredible opportunity together especially coming from where they came from to now. He's another body to throw out at KD or Lebron, he'll do just as well as anybody else but maybe he frustrate them a bit or at least use up his fouls. In the end regardless if you think differently, I think everyone agrees its a small price to pay to keep our star happy.

I mean his contract’s worth is already justified if you think of him as an energetic 10th man for a few high intensity minutes in regular season, but his value is 10fold when you think about the benefit he brings to our MVP’s mental wellbeing - having his brother alongside him. All in all can’t complain with this move.

I fully agree with your comments.

Thanassis has also played very well when he was the pg against the Knicks.

About him and the mvp: Thanassis is an invaluable asset for the Bucks. They probably share the same household with their mother. It would be very unhelpful to the mvp’s mental makeup if Thanassis had to go to a different city or country at this juncture, something that would hurt the Bucks.

Also on a somewhat related note about a different point. I saw the Olympics finals basketball. The way the u.s. team was playing was so different in style and flow than what i see many of these same players play while playing in the nba.

Makes me think that Thanassis may need to be “re tweaked” to play more in the nba style than the international style. He may be of much more value to the Bucks then. But someone else in the forum may have much more knowledge on this issue than I do?

Anybody hear if this is minimum or an Early Bird raise?

I for one would welcome Lance Stephenson to this team. People thought Bobby was crazy, but he was just misunderstood. See the same thing about Lance. Why not.

I could have missed it but I don't see many if any posts from people who are questioning whether we should sign him, and a lot of posts questioning whether *he* should sign. Yet also a lot of posts justifying why the Bucks are signing him. I think if you put up a poll 70-80% of us want him back, and what I've learned from the pandemic is that 20-30% of people are a waste of my **** time.

Eh. Outside a gig in Europe I don't think he's getting more of a defined role on another NBA team. I bet we'll see him on the court for the Bucks a lot more this coming regular season.

I was listening to the radio and they commented that the bucks had their biggest and best cheerleader back.

While Thanasis plays that role. He has transformed himself into a pretty good basketball player that will give your team energy minutes. Those are important. I would love him on this team even if he wasn’t Giannis’s brother. The fact he is and keeps him happy along with the team is just an unbelievable bonus.

If Thanasis improves his shooting he may be a viable playoff player on a championship level team which would be amazing.

Honesty. I would take him on most teams. Especially lottery bound teams. He is good enough to be on the court and gives the energy that I would hope would be contagious.

I think either is a stretch, but neither is completely out of reach.

Thanasis was 3 of 9 on corner 3s last year or 33.3% in 57 games (551 minutes) with the Bucks, also had a 21.3 TOV% dont think we want him handling the ball

Semi was of 25 of 73 or 34.2% in 56 games (950 minutes) with the Celtics

PJ Tucker of 11 of 30 or 36.7% in 20 games (397 minutes) with the Bucks

Maybe this is just a favor for an agent.

Or our roster isn't quite done and we're deciding btw Bryant, Diakite, and / or ring chaser TBD.

I know, right?

But seriously, while obviously none of us know Thanasis' mindset, it is a logical guess to think he's simply just happy with his life and the contract keeps everything great for a few more years.

Think about it: he likely knows he's not that awesome, that his role is to be an energy defensive guy off the bench for a few minutes a game in the regular season and to cheer on his brother and teammates. He seems like he has a blast with that. He appears very close to Giannis; his family is here (at least until his other brothers maybe play overseas, who knows), his teammates are here, his friends are here. He's not making $200 million, but he's still making a lot of money. He's an NBA champion. Life is fantastic and he truly looks like he's just loving everything.

He might be able to play internationally and make more money and get more playing time, but he'd be without Giannis, without his family, without all the guys he's become friends with in Milwaukee. I'm sure he'd have fun - he seems to love basketball - but he'd effectively be alone. Why bother? Why not just live your best life for now, having a blast with your little brother, on top of the best league in the world, and in a city with fans who adore you?

Haven't heard. However, he received a player option on year 2, which, IIRC, isn't allowed in year 2 of an Early Bird deal.

Naaah, KG would have made like he was going to slap him and have players "hold" him back.

Just realized, Thon really wasn't like KG, at all. Thon would use his karate skills and had no qualms about mixing it up.

From what I have seen to date, I would rather have Thanasis on the court in a meaningful game than Nwora or Diakite. He seems to understand where he needs to be within the team schemes on both ends. He knows his role is not to dominate the ball or hoist shots. He plays hard with energy. He is strong and quick, albeit with limited skills. He revels in doing the dirty work. He does not get upset when he does not play.

I respect how much he has improved since he joined the Bucks. At first he was a complete waste. Today he is better than a 15th man. He deserved to be on the playoff roster. He is a legit NBA player. Who would have thought that?

Thanasis does not rate highly in the fan world where potential often outweighs capability and scoring outweighs everything else. He is already in his prime and not likely to improve markedly. But having Thanasis on the Bucks roster at a minimal deal is a smart move. Is there any other NBA player who can get in the face of a 2-time MVP and tell him that he has to play better?

That is correct. There is still another path for it to be for more than the minimum, however. I believe teams can claim Non-Bird rights on Early Bird free agents, in which case we could have given him a 1+1PO starting at 120% of the minimum.

I'm guessing he just got the minimum though.

Khris Middleton is good at basketball.

Any of you got goosebumps watching this? Especially some of those playoff games this year. The interesting thing is they didn't even show some of his clutch buckets in the heat of some of those intense series.

He answered so many times in a critical moment when we desperately needed a bucket.

Just an incredible player.
