Aggregating our salaries now for a big contact gives us more options later.

On draft day we could also trade our first after we make it.

RE Wiggins I imagine there’s a lot of research being done to see if he’s liable to do better outside the Draymond-infused toxicity in Golden State the last year and a half.

If he’d try on D he’d be a huge addition. And he’d be a terror in the open court flanking Giannis and Dame.

But if he just don’t care no more that’s the risk and where the report of our interest being overstated is at least reflecting our negotiating posture.

I also think GS is weighing the same thing with Wiggins. They kind of need him to be good again to get where they want to go. Do they think he can get there again or is it time to cut bait while someone is still willing to take that contract? They might just decide to gamble on keeping him.

Yup. And Pat.

And I'd just like to point out again, in case he comes into our world today, that Wiggins only makes ~$4M more than those two combined the next two seasons. He has one added season, which would be a gigantic expiring.

It's NOT great, not trying to spin it, but I also don't think it's quite as dramatic as some have been making it out to be.

Yeah, that's my issue. If the Warriors are willing to get rid of him for peanuts, I think that is saying a lot. It's not like we are in any better situation luxury tax wise.

Wiggins is the ultimate degenerate gambler move and we're a franchise in degenerate gambler mode. 10% chance he can motivate himself long enough in a playoff setting to be exactly what we need, 90% chance the whole thing blows up in our face.

True, it's an all in move that would either put Horst in GOAT status or have him fired by the end of the year.

If we truly need defense it is probably smarter to try and acquire guys like Claxton, Dort, Mark Williams, Mitchell Robinson, Wendell Carter, or (gulp) Caruso I guess.

I do like the Aaron Gordon analogy with Wiggins though and would be intrigued if we got him at the right deal.

Do it. Wiggins & Giannis, finally after all of these years.

I think Giannis can help unlock the dog without all that crazy Draymond bullsh--. Dude pretty much f--- their whole aura with the Poole incident & just imploding all over the place. GSW gave that man too much cache.

Maybe get PJ after LAC buyout to help.

Well, according to the 2014 draft, he's better than Jabari Parker. And Joel Embiid.

Even back then when we were discussing Wiggins vs. Jabari there was a whiff of he (Wiggins) just doesn't give a crap. I think he's matured somewhat, but he never has been and never will be that guy who gives you everything he has.

It's not a function of style or court demeanor. Khris is equally cool on court but has that inner drive Wiggins seems to lack. Nevertheless, he'd be an upgrade, I guess.

Edit: I went into the archives and pulled this Wiggins critique I made from 2014 draft time (3/24/14).

I agree that wing defense is a strength for Wiggins because of his length and quickness. He does seem to struggle on switches and help D, but he'll grow out of that. The unflashy things I was thinking of were more on the offensive end, though. Spacing, positioning, brush screens, establishing, making yourself available to the ball, etc. He seems to get lost in space. Toward the end of the game yesterday he was in position to grab a key rebound but failed to establish any kind of position and looked like a little kid getting brushed aside in the lunchroom line.

Maybe more importantly, his teammates never seemed to see him as the go-to guy. On their last possession yesterday he passed behind the ball handler with his arms out and his defender trailing and was ignored like he was the last kid chosen in a pick-up game.

All these things may be passing clouds on the way to a HOF career, or they may be indicative of the failure of the YouTube high school highlight reel method of predicting basketball greatness. He's young enough to grow into his skills, but so far he hasn't shown the drive necessary to do so.

I don't think he's changed much. By the way, to show my predictive ability, in that draft I thought Embiid was an overrated Michael Olowokandi.

It definitely should raise an eyebrow when a team is wanting to move on from guys at positions of need, like Wiggins played a big part in a winning an NBA championship in GS and is playing next to Steph Curry so its hard to understand his malfunction and how the Milwaukee can rectify it.

We need some Miami magic where all our role players go nuclear in the postseason

Bobby would be good for Golden State. Kerr was high on him for Team USA too.

Wiggins / Kuminga have had fit concerns even aside from Draymond being their only decent center at the moment.

Pat would also be a good vibes guy which they could use. He was plenty tough in the playoffs just last season, and would be fine deferring to everyone clamoring for shots in the meantime.

Agree. I bet both Bobby and Pat go to GSW, but for Draft compensation, with Paul's salary slot routed to a 3rd team with the draft compensation, and our 2nds.

I usually laugh at the people that get incredibly upset when we either don't do anything or just make a minor move at the deadline, but I'll admit, with the amount of buildup and the importance of aggregating salaries before the tax restrictions get implemented, this would feel like a major buzzkill if we stand pat, or just shuffle some of the rookie and vet minimum contracts around.

I cannot get on the Wiggins bandwagon. Especially with that dreadful contract.

When you’re talking about acquiring a Wiggins-level talent for essentially peanuts (sorry Bobby, love you!), I think you have to take the swing.

He’s also playing better recently.

14.6/5/2.3 on 52.8%/38.7% in his last 10 games.

Wiggins looked good last night and the broadcast was saying he’s rounding into form alongside Kuminga and Draymond in the front court.

If it makes you feel better I think GS is going to chicken out on actually trading him.

I'd talk myself into Wiggins if the Bucks got some assets back. That contract is gross as hell.
