The problem is that I don't even know that they want to get rid of him.

If we're really chasing Wiggins, then we're shopping either Dame or Kuzma, and we'd be adding Wiggins to upgrade from Kuzma.

a) for effort

b) you're triggering me w/ this full MLE for Trent talk. It's worse than the BP 4/80 stuff. He shouldn't get that, & he in all likelihood won't. It also impedes us from signing another rotation player. We need a true MLE split involving him, or we should go in another direction.

c) we can go in the GD tax a little. Up to like 8m we're only paying 12 in tax. That's opportunity cost. Beyond that, it jumps to 30+. Then the juice isn't worth the squeeze. I don't think we need to move $ around, unless we're s&t'ing Brook & taking equal salary back, or foolishly re-signing him.

1. Trent for full MLE is a place holder.. Just assume we use the full MLE
2. If we go into the tax, we no longer have the full MLE, we have the baby MLE which is only 5.7 instead of 14.1. So we are not going into the tax but it has nothing to do with the actual tax.

That's just an order of operations thing. We can use the full MLE, BAE, and pay the tax. The only obstacle is we'll be hardcapped at the Apron, which is $6 million more than the tax threshold.

ahhh i see, so we have unlocked the MLE and BAE for this offseason by being under the tax at end of last season, and if we want the full MLE next offseason we just need to be below the the tax by the end of the season again.

well, that makes things a lot easier. we should have no problem retaining Rollins now.

I'd like to sign Josh Minnot to a 2 way deal. He was just at free by Minnesota.

Each year resets in the offseason. Being under the 2nd apron helped avoid locking our 2031 1st. Being under the 2nd apron allows greater freedoms, but that can be accomplished at any time. Using the full MLE, or the BAE, or taking on more salary in trade, or using a TPE activates hardcapping at the 1st apron.

That’s a great deal for Bobby. I feel pretty confident he could have gotten more on the open market. Complaining about the PO is just being whiny.

From who? the only team with real cap space is the nets. And we paid him 500k over the MLE

Cool Bobby contract. Now hopefully the guards are back too. Guess we'll have a good idea tomorrow.

Wonder if they'll stretch Pat or do some type of Pat for Javon Carter type deal to save a few million.

We are without a doubt paying the tax. The new rules state you have to be out of the tax for 2 years to avoid the repeater tax, and that isn't happening. We can use our TPE or take back more money in trade.
Why is that?

Ok, haven’t thought through it but something like
BKN Kuzma, Rozier, 31 1st, plus any extra assets we might get from a SnT with Lopez
MIA Dame
MKE Claxton, Wiggins, Cam Johnson

BKN clears a lot of long term salary, gets whatever assets we can assemble, most notably 31 1st, may require that 26 swap too.
MIA wanted Dame and pay pennies on the dollar to get him and hope he can contribute by the end of the season. The insurance money adds a lot of value to the bottom line as well (which is probably underrated value)
MKE goes all in AND sheds a bit of salary but the players we get are multi year guys in their prime

Resign KPJ, Sims, Rollins

PG KPJ, Rollins
SG Wiggins, AJG
SF Cam Johnson, Pat (or move him for a multi year contract that makes less money)
PF Giannis, Portis, Bogi
C Claxton, Sims

Much younger, much more athletic, plenty of shooting and still should be very competitive in the East.

Hate to tell you guys, but Kuz and Pat for Gobert works.

Bucks are going to be close on salary if they chose to stay under the luxury tax line to hit 14 spots. Looking for better options than just stretching Pat. Looking for contracts around 5 million or a 2 year 5 million for us to take on.

Best I can come up with is Javon Carter at 6.8 million expiring for Pat at 9.4.

Any other suggestions?

I like the idea of offloading Kuz onto BKN for Claxton.

Just trying to be hopeful here….

I see Kuzma’s contract is on a descending scale, that’s got to be a positive for the Bucks as far as trying to dump him, right?

Defensively that would be fun to watch, offensively the opposing team is playing hack-a-Giannis or Gobert on every possession.

Kuz has 2 years left. I'm not trading him for someone who has 3 years left. At least not Gobert.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Why does the board think owners won’t pay the tax this year? I’m sure they want to stay below the 1st apron to keep options open but I don’t think they’ve said they won’t pay some tax.

Read this off X is it correct

Between the other 8 players under contract and Big Bob on an AAV of $14.6M the Bucks have roughly $162.7M in team salary.

Full MLE and BAE used on 3 total players would be $181.9M for 12 spots, leaving $14M in apron space to add 2-3 additional players. Tons of breathing room.

i dont think anyone thinks that.

i personally was under the false assumption that you had to stay under of the tax to be able to use the full MLE but was incorrect. so it appears our real limit will be the first apron.
