As constructed this team doesn’t stand a chance at winning a championship, save for Giannis putting us on his back and miraculously delivering, but with the way he has been reffed so far this year that’s also a long shot. Horst and his team need to get creative and be aggressive towards improving the top end talent on this roster

I don't think anyone on the Portland roster is a reasonable target (we have assets that could get them, the player is not "young" and thus desirable for Portland to move, and they would be beneficial for us to get) unless they just give Rodney Hood away (though even he doesn't make sense unless we get rid of one of our wings or they get injured).

I don't even know who would be available that would improve the top end. IMO we need to improve the in between so we aren't running 8 bench guys a game.

Just searched the top 40 salaries and it’s only a handful of realistic targets on that list. We may have to swap out a dime for a couple shiny nickels

Thankfully DJ Wilson is a good looking woman

If we got rid of Middleton to get McCollum, he'd frustrate us as often if not more. Dame goes for 60 and CJ is 4-19 in a loss... Not typically uncommon either

Who's better CJ or DLo?

If the Kings stay out of the playoff picture by the deadline I think a 1st/Wes/Robin might be enough for Bogdan. Pretty confident an off the scrap heap Tyler Zeller could be replicating Robin’s production. Or play either Wilson or Bender. Bogdan makes us way better/makes life much easier for Giannis.

Raps didn't have a true #2 last year, a different guy had to fake it every night.

Yeah, I agree that Bogdan is "the move". He's a really good player in a crappy situation, I think he would shine alongside Giannis.

Bogdan would fit in perfectly at SG. May as well do it sooner rather than later.RiotPunch wrote:Chuck Diesel wrote:If the Kings stay out of the playoff picture by the deadline I think a 1st/Wes/Robin might be enough for Bogdan. Its ashame we couldnt just retain Brogdon. He's the guard we are currently in search of and he's not coming back. We need an upgrade because Wes Matthews is cool and all, but he ain't it. I like the idea of shopping Indianas 1st as a sweetner to see what we can get.
I like Will Barton, Bogdonovic is good too. Good SGs are at a premium it seems.

Orlando seems likely to make some kind of panic trade.
And we know Hammond has Horst’s number.
Lowe:

And we know Hammond has Horst’s number.
Lowe:
Orlando's offense is a merry-go-round to nowhere. It looks pleasing. Passes are made. Screens are set. The ball is on one side of the floor, and then it is on the other. The Magic actually get into the paint -- only Miami averages more paint touches -- but you never get the sense they have punctured the defense.
I suspect they brush the fringes of the paint a lot, and enter and exit it without doing anything dangerous.
Orlando is dead last in points per possession by a laughable margin. That is a little fluky. The Magic are shooting 27% from deep; they will make more shots.
But some of this impotence appears endemic. The Magic ranked 22nd in points per possession last season. They struggle to generate shots at the rim; they rank about average this season, a huge step up. Only two teams attempt fewer corner 3s. And (stop me if you've heard this for, like, the past seven seasons) they rarely get to the foul line.
They have too many power forwards, and not enough shooters and playmakers. Aaron Gordon has no defined role. D.J. Augustin has predictably regressed after an outlier season. Nikola Vucevic settles for flip shots.
Markelle Fultz still can't shoot; defenders go under every Fultz-Vucevic pick-and-roll, meaning Vucevic's man can stay home -- neutering his pick-and-pop looks.
I'm not even sure what the solution is. More fast breaks would help, especially with Fultz starting. (His promotion over Augustin felt a little premature.) That has not been their style, and they don't force many turnovers. Maybe they could run more basic spread pick-and-roll, and give both Gordon and Jonathan Isaac chances to work as rim-runners while Vucevic spaces the floor. They should avoid playing Al-Farouq Aminu, Isaac and Mo Bamba together.
They don't really have the personnel to play smaller. They could try more minutes with three of Augustin/Fultz/Evan Fournier/Terrence Ross on the floor, but that isn't moving the needle. Maybe they could lean even more on Vucevic post-ups against some opponents?
I dunno. But this is a one-way team, and one-way teams can't win big.

Fournier I don’t trust when it’s nut up time.

He's really bad at defense.

He's not a good defender by any stretch, but he actually has pretty good feel/timing as a pickpocket and tends to translate his steals into fastbreak buckets. 75th percentile in STL% this year, 71st percentile last year.
But yeah, you're trading for his shooting/playmaking on O and betting that you can cover up his deficiencies on D.
EDIT: Some steals to buckets that come to mind.

Bogdan has defensive limitations. He’s not “really bad.” Thats reserved for guys like Charlie Villanueva and Jabari Parker. The offensive positives far outweigh any deficiencies on the other end, especially with us.

If we weren’t prepared to pay for Brogdon why on earth would we pay Bogdan? And what are we giving up to get him?

I guess the hope would be that the guys with the B's realize that letting go a very talented player isn't as easily replicated by signing Wes Matthews to a minimum contract and giving more minutes to your non lotto ginger and rethink their stance on paying money for guys who could help us keep Giannis and win a championship as they should have a couple months ago.
