I've got a Dreamcast emulator and the first game I downloaded was VT2. It still holds up.

Redream ?

It's on my other computer so I'm not 100% sure but I think that's it.

Reicast is my personal favorite, it's also conveniently in RetroX. RetroX is the best all-in-one emulator program that I've come across.

Dreamcast was the first system I ever bought with my own money. We had all the other ones as family gifts, but I saved up $100 and bought my DC with Crazy Taxi and a couple other games. Eventually got VT2, what a game...only other one to come close was the first Topspin.

Speaking of emulators, I downloaded Dolphin last month for Gamecube. I used to be obsessed with NBA Courtside 2002. I always liked the odd/random nba games. Also played Inside Drive on Xbox lol.

Anyone playing Wasteland 3 that can comment on console controls? I know from playing on Gamepass that it doesn't run super well on my laptop, and I'm kinda wanting to not get a solo-desktop game right now because I spend enough time in my office, so was thinking about maybe PS5 (PS4). But I can't think of how well it plays with a controller vs. a mouse.

Anyway, it's on sale on PSN like 4 more days, so thought maybe I'd pull the trigger soon if so even if I don't play it for a few weeks.

I personally like it a lot more on console as opposed to mouse and keyboard, but I've only been playing M&KB for a couple days.

After a couple nights of playing, everything you hated about the Show is still bad. I usually don't like automating anything in Franchise modes, but the stuff here sucks so much that I end up just simming it. There's obvious baseball features that Out of the Park has been doing forever that the Show could simply crib and they haven't. Gameplay has regressed.

That said, and this is probably a next gen feature only, but moving in and out of games, modes, and saves is LIGHTNING fast. I could sim a result, not like it, back out out to the main menu and re-load the old save in (I **** you not) three seconds. It's insane, and I got to admit, makes the experience of going through the franchise mode a lot nicer.

Also, and this has nothing to do with the game, but I highly recommend playing the new Mortal Kombat soundtrack on Spotify in place of any game you're currently playing. It rules.

I’ll have to look that up. I’m thinking of getting a month of HBO Max just so I can watch that (ok, and a few others).

Holy crap! An actual next gen game arrives next week and it's apparently great.

Never played a Tales game before, but this looks pretty great so far.

;t=2s

I think there are some Tales series fans here - any insights on how they play? Is it like Ys? I liked Ys combat but I didn't like the story, characters, or zone structure.

Had an inefficient day.

Hyped for Mortal Kombat, though the reviews make me worried. But I figure I haven't played one of the games since MK3 so I order MK11 Ultimate editionon Amazon and it'll be here tomorrow. But it scratched the itch for fighting so I installed Injustice 2 again and played through most of the campaign for the now 4th time. I LOVE it, which is why I'm sure I'll love MK11 (Netherrealm and all). E

While playing I realize I don't have any of the DLC characters and they're pricy as hell in packs. But I've been drinking a bit at this point and if I found them bundled I'd probably do it. I find the packs, they're still expensive. While I'm searching though I find a bundle of MK11 Ultimate edition and Injustice 2 Legendary edition, on sale for less than the cost of what I just paid for on Amazon.

So now I'm downloading the Injustice 2 DLC as part of the Legendary edition, MK11 and all of the DLC (which looks dope. I mean, the Terminator), and I have to figure out how to return a package to Amazon for the first time.

No word on the new Tales, as they have advertised a combat system overhaul, but Tales is the equivalent of action-based RPG comfort food. You have the basics of equipment, leveling, and combat items/inventory. Combat is not turn based; prior to Zestiria in 2015, it used a simple "main attacks/chains supplemented by special abilities that consume mana (called TP)" that got more elegant when chaining special attacks together. Weapons and armor had skills that your character "learned" as they used the items in combat, and could use skills that were learned completely even after removing the armor to shape your combat style. With Zestiria and Berseria, there was a switch from TP to skill gauge, which refills based on basic attacks and blocking, albeit at a much slower rate than TP. TP enabled you to spam abilities over and over; skill gauge leads to more deliberate usage of abilities surrounding more invested basic attack chains.

The new game looks like it's going to involve more combat finesse than before, including viable "juggling", which should help diversify the combat. Overall, you generally have to do some light grinding of enemies, which leads to a lot of repetitive combat. How you do in combat rewards you with a currency called GRADE that you can use to get enhancements for multiple playthroughs (i.e. 2000 GRADE increases the amount of EXP enemies give by 10x, which would let you get through the game much quicker - but only if playing through the game again).

The "Tales of" series is sometimes called comfort food because the games are pretty good, but often not standout. There's generally a lot of anime tropes, the first "act" is usually strong, the second act tends to be a lot of revisiting previously explored areas, and the third act some sort of "we need to save the world" type resolution. Characters are usually pretty endearing, albeit not necessarily as memorable as a Persona party member. The voice acting is usually better than it is worse, with a few knockouts, but you will hear a lot of characters in the game voiced by the same voice actors. The worlds are usually pretty, and the backdrops quite good even if towns feel a bit samey and dungeons aren't too intense in terms of puzzle-solving.

Falcom (who does Ys) is a much better story writing/narrative team than the Tales of studio from Bandai-Namco. If you're looking for the narrative tightness of Ys, you won't find it. The action combat is not exactly the same - it's more reminiscent of a turn-based, where you attack enemies on the overworld before being brought into a battle - but it is not turn-based in the slightest. I'm looking forward to Arise and hope its extended creation time has led to the polish and attention to detail that have been lacking in the previous few games (Berseria, from 2016, was pretty good, but Zestiria was a disaster).

It could not be easier. I think you can literally leave the item unpackaged on your porch and they'll have UPS pick it up, box it, and label it at this point. Obviously, follow the instructions they provide though, don't just leave it outside on my word

Thanks! This is really helpful. I'm not sure what to think exactly if the comparison story and writing-wise is that Ys is better/tighter. I only played Ys 8, but I really did not get into it. The gameplay was all that kept me going.

But these are so cheap at this point, I may pick one up for $5-10 to try out before Arise to see if it catches me or not.

The one to go for would be the Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition. If you have Game Pass, it's on there. Has aged very well (though the voice acting gets a bit strange in this one, as they had to recast a few roles after voicing new scenes 10 years after its original release), story is pretty tight, and the cast of characters is quite enjoyable. Some (probably myself included) would say it's the best in the series.

Playing MK reminds me why I was always a street fighter kid instead. I hate the back-arrow/forward-arrow attack command. It always leads me to a back jump instead. Good thing there's a cheat code character in Sub-Zero that's nothing but street fighter commands.

Started playing Hades again and I am now on a streak of five consecutive escapes. Using Chiron's Bow or the Chaos Shield are almost guaranteed escapes at this point. I believe I need four more escapes to reach the "true" ending of the game. Feel solidly reassured that Hades was definitely game of the year in 2020.

Next time I'm in a rut I should go back to that and Dead Cells. I got the good ending in Hades but I think I only cleared it with the shield.
