Dude really kinda looks like Ray Allen moving around from a couple of his video highlight reels. Similar build and movements... Even looks a little cartoony in the face. I was struggling to find a player comp.. Thought maybe Fox on Sacremento... Mini Beauchamp, Smaller Jamal Crawford, or bigger Lou Williams.

You can't play serious winning basketball with a bouncing bush on your head. AJ, get a haircut and the future is yours.

My proposal is to do the Allen Iverson haircut for the rest of your NBA career. Trust, Bucks won a ring cause Diakite turned his hair blond. You can't even backcut unnoticed with that waving bush on your head, please Bucks future is on your head

To understand how bad Horst is at Draft Days ... consider that the Knicks traded #24 for 6 2nd Round picks ... so is AJ Johnson worth 6 2nd Round picks ? Who knows how his haircut end to be ?

Just watched some combine scrimmage highlights for the first time and was very encouraged.

Those assists when operating in the half court are something we never really saw in Wollongong. I think he ostensibly had the "combo guard" tag because he operated as a playmaker in high-tempo situations - getting downhill in semi-transition or whatever - while tending to play more off ball in sets.

But the poise and control he shows in some of those scrimmage highlights make him look every bit the point guard.

AJ is best when he controls his speed. He can't make proper reads when he's in road runner mode. Build poise, make better decisions, use speed at the right moment.

I love it ...
This is the floor general haircut , it increases court vision, assist numbers, assist/turnover ratio , playing time with starters and the seat next to Lillard in the locker room.

He's lighter than Crawford but they measured the same height at the combine. But size-wise right now I think Crawford is the right comp. Maybe AJ grows another inch before it's all said and done, though.

Not always true. There's a few things said on this subject at about the 2:20ish mark in the video below. The best one is by Steve Snapper Jones, "When that afro started going back like that, it was bad news for the opposition."

Here's a couple of other serious winners:

You know who else had a haircut like that, Lindsay? Jean Michel Basquiat. He's DEAD. Overdose.

On the University of Washington 2015-16 roster, Dejounte Murray was officially listed at 6’4” 170lbs. I think 1 and done Dejounte is a good comp.

The nbadraft.net comp for AJ is Malcolm Lee, a 6'5" SG who played 36 games in the NBA. Let's hope they are as wrong as they usually are.

This is useful info, because you're adding more context as to why he didn't light the world on fire in Oz. I was going to ask you specifically about this aspect of his experience, which was whether he was allowed to be the primary ball-handler.

A lot of people here were keen on Carrington for our pick. He went well earlier, but admitted he was much worse off ball. What if he played against grown men & was forced to play off ball? Or what if AJ went to Pitt & got to play point against kids?

As for the combine scrimmages, it's not very transition-centric, or disorganized, like summer league. It has better prospects than just about any college game. It's under NBA rules, unlike the NBL. It's a better gauge than all those, outside the smaller sample. In those 2 games, he showed ability to run an offense, & screen navigation, among other things, that were indeed very encouraging.

The only difference between ....
#10 Cody Williams & #23 AJ Johnson is
literally 2 inches , 11 lbs and a haircut

Trying to find things to like him is not that hard but you need alot of imagination... I like his hesi change gear playmaking wearing the #1 jersey ... he reminds me Penny Hardaway a bit. I wish he grows 2 more inches and becomes a 6'6 Point God

I scented a little Penny in him as well. He plays long, he's sudden. I think there is more than a little something here but let's see how they develop him. He's got a sweet, boyish face too.

Question: Is he as quick as TJ Ford was?
