Umude feels like the kind of player you give a 3-year vet minimum deal and hope it ends up being a great deal. And even if not, it's easy to move off of. But between the shooting and defense, feels like a perfectly reasonable move to make.

I'm absolutely certain we could get AK-47 and filler from the Jazz

That's fair but it's worth pointing out he's an Arkansas writer & Umude played for Arkansas so seems fairly plausible
Yeah, but given they're not an NBA writer and the timing (beginning of FA, just before SL), it also seems plausible that it could be any kind of agreement: SL, 2-way, camp deal / ex. 10, NBA contract. An actual multi-year NBA contract seems like the least likely option given this guy was just pushed out the door by a 14 win team.
Two nba champion teams gave up on ddv and let him walk for nothing. Detroit is certainly not above making a terrible personnel decision
The Bucks traded Donte because he didn't want to sign for 4/40, and the Warriors couldn't compete with external teams due to the contract they gave him and their cap situation. That's not the same as pushing a 24 year old out the door without an offer.
Sure, they may have made a mistake, and maybe Umude is good, but I find it unlikely that, after getting let go by a terrible team following an unremarkable season that ended with a broken ankle, his next opportunity is a multiyear contract from a contender.

If we trade Brook to the Lakers the trade will likely be for Vincent, Vanderbilt and one or two future 2nds. They are not giving up Reeves.

We all know that Detroit has a new front office, right? You can't use Troy Weaver-era decisions against them. If you want to use Weaver's personnel record to stake out a position on Umude, the only valid position is that Umude is bad, because he signed there under Weaver's tenure.

With Ham back, we sure the Bucks aren't doubling down on Brook & Bobby being up front with G?

For our purposes, its better than signing him for one year and then not being able to retain him. Its not like he would command a ton. Why not?

My understanding is if a team aggregate salaries in a trade they are hard capped at the 2nd apron for the season.
That is correct, but the question is if we have to get under the 2nd apron before we can aggregate or if we can do both in one move.
I think you can do both in one move as you're not hard capped until the trade has been completed.

Smith
Livingston
Umude?
2 Way:
Washington

Hope the developmental coaches are ready to work overtime. I excluded Thanasis since he's a lost cause.

Isn't this an argument for signing literally anybody to a multiyear NBA contract?

We're definitely not sure about that, I'd say it's probably more likely than not at this point that's exactly what we're going to do along with filling in on the edges with vet mins.

Only issue is that we really don't know if any of them can play.

He's a good defender (6'7" wingspan) and spot up shooter who could play next to Dame or initiate the offense when Dame is on the bench.

Gabe Vincent is closer to playing in Europe than he is being an actual rotation player for a championship contender. What are we doing to ourselves here?

I mean, you obviously need to compare him to the other available options before committing a slot to him, but to me he is a very intriguing prospect. There just aren't that many guys who are both available for vet min and are also flashing this kind of useful upside. So, no?
A one year deal doesnt fit here. Hes not a known quantity, hired gun that we can count on for a playoff run. He is still a project and i would only bring him in if its a multi year approach. If he pops right away, awesome. If he shows steady improvement, great. If he is a dud, is it that hard to unload a two year vet min contract?

I was high on Vanderbilt when he was in Utah but seems like he had a real down year last season. Buy low opportunity or is he just not that good?
Otherwise Rui's contract seems like a closer fit if he'd be the target. Or Russell if he goes to a third team.

Jake Fischer: The Lakers have also been exploring trade scenarios with the contracts of D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, Jarred Vanderbilt and Gabe Vincent, sources said, and Brook Lopez has been one of the primary options on the Lakers’ board of hopeful acquisitions, sources said.
