Groupon for today is for SNAP fitness. Basically, 50 bucks for 3 months. Not a bad deal if you use it. I am more of a guy who runs and works out at home, so I probably won't do this.

I never understood how people could get a good workout in at home. I love my gym time.

There are some people who workout for reasons other than getting big, you know...

i agree with jimmy, i feel like i need to move around a lot when i workout, i work at a couple machines and then jog around the track a few times, then jog up some stairs and do some pushups and then jog some more.

can't do that at home

lol so the ONLY reason someone should workout is so they can become huge? I have seen workout programs given by Navy Seals who do just different variations of pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups, and cardio. All of that can be done at home. So that doesn't make sense? Those guys are in great shape and a lot, maybe even most, don't even lift weights.

What in the hell are you talking about with this getting huge ****? When have I, or anyone in this thread for that matter, said anything about "getting huge"? For one, right now I'm training to drop fat and lean out more. Yes, I lift weights as part of this. You're a moron if you think weight loss or even general health trainees can't benefit from weight training. I could explain to you why but I get the feeling you have a strong uneducated bias already set in your brain. You're right, weight training is only for roided out bodybuilders looking to GET HUGE.

And please, you're naive if you think someone can make continued progress on bodyweight exercises. At a certain point it's going to be too easy for you to do them and won't stress your body enough to make adaptations in strength or body compositions changes. Once you're pumping out 20+ rep sets of anything you're training muscular endurance and very little strength/hypertrophy. you lost any credibility with me when you advised someone to avoid stretching. Short, tight muscles FTW.

1. Time
2. Need
3. Money

Time: I work multiple 12 hour days and don't have time most days to go to the gym to work out. 20 minute round trip, shower, wait for machines you need. At home, I do it at my convenience at 11 or whatever.

2. I'm not trying to get huge. I only want to get toned for the summer. I usually go on a 5 mile run every other day (Running outside is infinitely better than running on a treadmill. I think do pushups, pullups and situps. In fact, I used to go to the gym every day and not see the results I have with these exercises. Partly because they are easier to do on machines, partly because I am more vigilant doing them at home.

3. I don't feel like wasting money on gas and a gym membership. I am on a really strict budget.

Those are the 3 main reasons I work out at home. I have noticed I have gotten stronger and more toned than when I worked at a gym. I can always add free weights and start a smaller home gym.

Working out at home makes sense for a lot of people with different objectives.

See above post, where do you guys come up with this? lol

If you're seeing results at home then that's awesome. But you aren't exactly comparing apples to apples if you were doing machines at the gym and compound movements at home.

Money I can understand.

I wasn't referring to you. I just feel I can do pretty much anything at home that I can do in a gym at this point. I think I only need the gym when I'm stronger and can out do free weights that I have and body weight exercises. Stop being so defensive, I'm just saying I don't really need a gym. What kind of exercises are you talking about that I can't do at home?

I like going to the gym mostly for bball reasons!! I like to play outside only in the dead of summer when it's scorching hot!

LOL at JoeyMorgan implying people who go to gym's are all trying to bulk up.

When I become a baller, I'm going to get a home gym and indoor basketball court! DO IT BIG!

Got a new bike. First bike I've had that's big enough for me since I was a kid. Time for me to stop paying for gas every two weeks.

I'm wondering where you get this impression that weight training is only for people who want to get huge. My point is that even if you want to tone up then resistance training is your friend. Pull Ups and pushups are great but like I said above once you reach a certain point they are no longer causing your body to adapt in the way you want it to. It's called the principle of specifcity and once you get out of a certain zone you begin to train your muscles for endurance, not strength or hypertrophy. If you're only doing pushups and pullups you should be able to reach this level within a month, and then you need to add weight and introduce other movements like:

squat variations, deadlift variations, bench press, military press, weighted dips, weighted pull ups, rows

If you want to continue that progression.

Bodyweight + weights FTW. I reckon I can fit at least 150 pounds on my dip/pullup belt. I'll let you know when I hit 20 reps. :)

lol dude calm down. First off, you said previously that you don't understand how people could get a good workout in at home. Then I said some people work out for reasons other than getting big. Then you said "that makes no sense." So you said it, not me. You're the one putting words in peoples mouths. When did I said anything about roids? When did I say you couldn't benefit from weight training? The argument I was trying to make is that you can get in a good workout at home. You said you couldn't. There are plenty of people that make great progress on bodyweight exercises. Look at guys like Hannibal, Beast, etc. There are groups solely dedicated to bodyweight exercises. Harlem Seals, Barmasters, Calisthenics Kingz, Bartenders, Barholics just to name a few. Almost all of what they do can be done with just a pull-up bar and their own bodyweight.

Well you're a beast if you're dipping or pulling +150. I'd get bored with sticking to just that though.

I would get bored with anything. I almost never do the same workout twice in a row. That's the second hardest part about rehab to me.
