Glad UVA won it. After UW/MU, they were the team I preferred winning after what happened last year and the Bennett connection.

Still a little salty that Bo's FF teams would've destroyed this bracket though, lol.

I went to Jr. High with Tony right before the Bennett’s moved to Green Bay. Congrats to Virginia!

This is soooo true. Just criminal that UVA gets the ball after that play. Though it happens in the NBA plenty too.

It was a close game but it was anything but a good game. My decision to transition 90% of my NCAA viewing to NBA seems positively the right call.

I wanted Culver to be so much better than he is.

A well played game with compelling plays.

Defensively it was lovely but the number of horrifying possessions outnumbered compelling offensive plays by 10:1.

Happy for Virginia. First because I really like Charlottesville and also because I kinda felt bad for them last year. We all knew a 16 would beat a 1 at some point and those poor bastards got their name called. As a fan of a team who gets a lot of 1 seeds, I'm glad it was them but this is the ultimate comeback from that. Also, they're nowhere near as boring as Wisconsin so it's not as awful to watch as some in the media are making it.
F*** Marc Davis, f*** Tim Donaghy and f*** David Stern as a staff, record label and as a mothaf**kin crew......and if you wanna be down with Stern then F*** YOU TOO!!! Stu Jackson f*** you too.....all you mothaf**kas F*** YOU TOO!!!!

Ah, so you like shiny pennies. Got it.
And you like 90s NBA. I guess we are at an impasse. How about this: what was UVAs best tourney win and how would they compete against past champs? The level of play cratered this year and an OT result doesn't mean it was a good game.

What’s more boring; an ugly defensive battle, or the Rockets missing 27 straight three pointers in Game 7 last season?

I’m all for a faster pace, but I guess it goes both ways.

Happy for Malcolm, sad for Darvin. Kyle Guy won F4MVP, looks like he is our pick at 30.

Congrats UVA, I appreciated that game from the tough defense in the 1st half to the back and forth lead changing in the 2nd half all the way to UVA pulling away in OT.

1 thing I always have the utmost respect for is FT shooting in crunch time so kudos to Virginia for that.

Side note: changing that out of bounds call off Morettis pinky finger was criminal imho. Down 2 in OT you don't over turn that. Zoomed in slow motion shots like that are distorted in the 1st place, that was a split second call in real time they should've stuck with.

Read on Twitter

It’s mostly a dumb thing because moretti got hacked by Guy after making a great hustle play. Who knows if he even loses the ball if his dribbling arm isn’t raked immediately prior. It just sucks penalizing the team who who made a great play by swallowing the whistle and then overturning the “make up call”. Either you keep it tech ball to make up for not calling the foul on guy prior, or you call the initial foul. Otherwise there’s a billion of those to overturn all year.

Both can be boring.

Relax guys, I'm not knocking Wisconsin. That style gives you a chance to win every game if you're halfway decent. Watching them so much helps me appreciate Virginia but outside of those Dekker-Kaminsky-Hayes teams they have been particularly boring compared to other major conference teams. And it was the pure talent of that trio that made them not completely boring. This sh*t they're trotting out there these days tho....I don't know, man.

Review is always going to be infuriating because of the tension between the whole point of it being getting the correct call and the need to draw a line so that you're not reviewing everything. There are enough instances like this one where the thing they CAN review is nearly simultaneous with the thing they CAN'T review (but which would nullify the thing they can review) that the overall utility of it is minimal and maybe not worth the bummer way it impacts the viewing experience. Overall the games are definitely called fairer as a result of replay, though, because it's also good as a backstop against ref bias.

I'm not going to nitpick whether it was a "good game" or not. I enjoyed it.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Happy for Tony, and that they were able to get the ‘can’t win the big game’ and ‘collapse’ criticisms put to rest.

Also, makes you wonder how last season could have been different with Hunter actually healthy and playing. He’s pretty good.

I grew up in Green Bay and went to the UWGB basketball camps and would sit slack-jawed as Tony would drill half-courters like nothing. Dick was very visible in the preps community even after Tony graduated and was an unfailingly warm presence to everyone. It didn't matter if you were the one D1 level recruit in the area (cupboard was paltry back then) or a standard-issue varsity seat filler, Dick had a handshake or nod or something to acknowledge your presence. Almost everybody played a variation of his defense and motion offense - save for Clintonville (his hometown, ironically) - up in those parts and to ingratiate yourself in those schemes was to discover how rock-solid they were. Hell, GB almost beat Steve Smith and MSU despite starting the fat guy from Teen Wolf at center who overcame his lack of height with an excess of girth. I guess everybody has skeletons in their closet, but if serious dirt ever came out on the Bennetts I would be shook. Tony is very much Dick's son and this win means a lot to the people who can pick Mike Karisny and Logan Vander Valden out of a lineup.

Carolina is one of the 10 teams in the country that can run.

It's college basketball and most of the players suck. We've seen lots of teams try to be "more exciting" in the Big 10 and absolutely flop. When you try to run that fast, unless you have a lot of top 20-30 recruits like UNC, you're going to make some stupid turnovers or take some stupid shots. So then the teams that slow it down and value the ball will beat you.

Some teams that currently have better shooters can play slightly faster (Purdue, Auburn, etc.) but that comes and goes for teams like Purdue.

I get that even that level of pace can be a bit more exciting but there are only a handful of teams that can do it.
