I wonder what Horst’s best offer for Kuminga is.

Yet there is also a growing belief leaguewide that the Warriors would be more willing to move Jonathan Kuminga in a Markkanen trade — or any big-swing deal — than Podziemski.
via marcstein.substack.com
”Beyond how highly Golden State rates the 21-year-old and his all-around game, Podziemski also has three seasons left on his rookie contract worth nearly $13 million as the No. 19 overall pick in June 2023," Stein wrote. "Kuminga, meanwhile, is immediately eligible for a lucrative contract extension between now and Oct. 21 as the No. 7 overall pick from a 2021 draft class that has already seen Detroit [Pistons'] Cade Cunningham, Cleveland [Cavaliers'] Evan Mobley, Toronto [Raptors'] Scottie Barnes and Orlando [Magic's] Franz Wagner land extensions that far exceed $200 million."

What a great video. I know putting those Middleton highlights in there was killing him, though.

There is not a single player or coach in the Bucks organization that agrees with you on that, or any NBA organization for that matter.
This is the kind of reply I'd expect to see on a Threads joke. It's not a Bucks RealGM tongue-in-cheek post.

Yes, I should have added that there were about 500,000 reasons why with a wink and a smile. Post fail.
Dealing with people who exhibit the "smartest person in the room" syndrome can be a challenge. One approach is to listen their opinion while also encouraging open-mindedness. It's important to create an environment where all voices are valued.

A week ago, Bill Simmons had dismissed the Bucks as a team below the top level of contenders in the East. He said he wasnt really impressed with our off-season decisions. Now, he has named them as the team that scares him the most in the East.
He did not reference changing his mind, but he did say he really likes Gary Trent jr and believes we got three guys who can play a game 7 in the finals on vet min deals.
So there you go.

Seems like the Bucks would be on the end of making the big swing for Kuminga with the assets we have to possibly acquire him. Doubt GSW is overly interested but maybe. In my opinion tho I’d give up whatever needed to get Kuminga but it’s insanely doubtful.

Simmons, Lowe and the Hoop Collective guys all pretty much did 180's on the Bucks after the GTJ signing.

Bill Simmons' post-GTJ Bucks section (lightly edited from transcript):
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-bill-simmons-podcast/id1043699613?i=1000662916357
The Milwaukee Bucks are 15 to one on FanDuel and Giannis is six to one on it for MVP. And they had the year from hell last year.
Right? Name it, it went wrong. Nobody has beaten a healthy Giannis since the 2022 Celtics, beat them in seven, thanks to an insane game six performance by Jason Tatum. And if you go look at that box score, there's no Khris Middleton in that series. Giannis had 46 and 20 in that game. It's not like he wasn't doing anything.
And Tatum ends up just leaving his body, wins, go to game seven, Grant Williams hits a bunch of threes, all of a sudden the Bucks are out. And the next two years, a bunch of dumb **** happens, and Giannis isn't healthy in either playoffs. And now he's 30 years old, Dame's 33, Middleton's 33.
And yet, I kinda like where the Bucks are, because they're under the radar now. Nobody's talking about them, right? Even think about the Olympics. The Bucks are irrelevant in the Olympics basketball discussion. The two teams that in the summer got the most attention for moves in the East were Philly and the New York Knicks. You have Orlando got better, and Milwaukee's just kinda like, yeah, yeah, they won in 21, but now they're old.
So you have Dame coming back from a year from hell. No question. This is probably the biggest season of his career, because if it doesn't happen this year, I don't know if it happens for him as the top two guy.
They got a couple breaks. Porzingis being out for half the year. Embiid's out of shape. The Knicks never got a center. The Knicks, by the way, I agree with that. They could probably get a center in January or February.
The big thing that I think slipped under the radar, they signed a bunch of guys who can play in a game seven for minimum contracts over the summer.
They signed Delon Wright, who I always liked, who can absolutely play in a big game.
Gary Trent, who was just sitting there for somebody to steal. A three and D guy who hasn't really played with a point guard for the last couple of years, right? And has just been on these weird Toronto teams that keep changing their identities, but that guy's unafraid. I don't mind Gary Trent.
And then Prince on the Lakers, who I didn't think had a great year, but guys have a tendency to not have awesome years sometimes in that LeBron AD infrastructure. As a ninth guy, he's gonna be better than Jae Crowder and whoever. They're gonna have Connaughton coming back. They still have Portis. And I kinda like their nine.
And the big thing for me, Giannis, who in the last six years for MVP finished first, first, fourth, third, third and fourth. For the last six years, he's 30, 12 and six, just every season. And from a perception standpoint, Jokic passed him, Luka passed him, Embiid's coming, the Celtics have the best team. And he's just kinda over here.
And he hasn't really played since March. And I just am expecting some insane Giannis, I'm taking back my turf territory.
So, you know, people think, sometimes when I talk about the Celtics, people think I'm doing like reverse jinxes, like people in my life, they're like, oh, you're just saying this because you're trying to jinx whoever.
I'm the most worried about the Bucks in the East. That's where I've landed. That's where I've had a little bit of a vacation the last few weeks. The Bucks are the scariest team to me.
I'm not that worried about Philly. I think that's gonna be, they have two of their top three are injury potential guys. They're throwing a whole bunch of dudes together. I still have some questions about Paul George and Philly, how that's gonna play out over an eight month span. The Knicks, there's gonna be some weird minute stuff with them with bringing Randall back, with who's gonna finish games. They don't have enough size. I think they're really gonna miss Hartenstein. Are they gonna get the same healthy season from Brunson?
And then you have Milwaukee, which is gonna be stable. You have Doc adding to the coaching staff like Missoula did over last summer. And 15 to one on FanDuel, normally you don't get good odds on teams, but to me that should be 10 to one.
And that was one that jumped out to me. And then the Celtics over under for wins on FanDuel is 58 and a half, which just seems too high to me if they're not gonna have Porzingis for at least half the season. That feels like to me that should be maybe in the 54 range.
Anyway, watch out for the Bucks. That's, I said last year, don't watch out for the Bucks. I'm not buying it. This year, I'm a little more intrigued.

Have there been any signs that we would make *any* offer for Kuminga? Doesn't seem like a logical target.

Bobby for Moody and a future protected-1st would be the play if you're dealing with Golden State, not Kuminga. But that makes much less sense now with the Trent signing.
And lol, typical Simmons doing an about-face on the Bucks because of a couple vet minimum signings, and not, you know, the idea of Giannis and Dame actually being healthy for a whole playoff series. To Bill's credit, he's always given Giannis his flowers, but it's like the entire NBA media ecosphere just collectively decided that we're now the lower ceiling version of the Kawhi/PG Clippers.

Re: Bucks News, Trade Ideas, Transactions - 3 Years Ago Today, Giannis Scores 50, Bucks in 6
I like this version of Simmons more.
The 2024 Milwaukee Bucks are the epitome of '90s Hollywood powerhouses, embodying the perfect blend of star power, versatility, and resilience. Picture the Bucks as the Meg Ryan of the NBA. Meg was America’s sweetheart, dominating rom-coms with her charm and relatability. The Bucks, led by the charismatic Giannis Antetokounmpo, capture that same essence. Giannis is the heart and soul, the guy everyone roots for, just like Meg in her prime. His ability to dominate on both ends of the court while remaining humble and likable makes him the perfect centerpiece, much like Meg was in films like "Sleepless in Seattle" and "You've Got Mail."
Then there's Khris Middleton, who’s like the Julia Roberts of the Bucks. Julia was a versatile actress who could carry a movie with her star power and undeniable talent. Middleton, with his clutch performances and steady scoring, is the dependable star who can always be counted on when the game is on the line, much like Julia could carry a film with her presence alone.
When I think about Damian Lillard, I see shades of Demi Moore in the '90s. Think about it: Demi was a powerhouse, a leading lady who could dominate the screen with her presence, intensity, and versatility. She had that rare combination of talent, grit, and a bit of an edge – much like Dame on the basketball court.
Dame is the guy who, like Demi, is always in the spotlight when it matters most. Remember Demi’s iconic roles in "A Few Good Men" and "G.I. Jane"? She wasn’t just a star; she was a force to be reckoned with, unafraid to take on challenging roles and deliver memorable performances. Lillard is that same kind of player. He thrives in high-pressure situations, delivering clutch performances and taking on the biggest challenges without flinching.
Brook Lopez? He’s the Angela Bassett of the group. Angela was never the flashy superstar, but she brought a level of intensity and gravitas to every role she played, whether it was "What's Love Got to Do with It" or "Waiting to Exhale." Lopez, with his defensive presence and ability to stretch the floor, is the unsung hero who adds a layer of depth and toughness to the Bucks, much like Angela did to every film she graced.
And we can’t forget about Bobby Portis, the Winona Ryder of the Bucks. Winona was the edgy, unpredictable star who brought a unique energy to her films, from "Reality Bites" to "Girl, Interrupted." Portis, with his fiery passion and tenacity off the bench, provides that spark and unpredictability, much like Winona did in her heyday.
So, the 2024 Milwaukee Bucks are a dream team of '90s actresses, each bringing their unique talents and star power to create a cohesive, dynamic unit. They have the charm and dominance of Meg Ryan, the clutch performances of Julia Roberts, star power of Demi Moore, the intensity of Angela Bassett, and the fiery edge of Winona Ryder. Together, they’re aiming for another blockbuster season, hoping to capture the NBA’s ultimate award once again, just like these actresses captured our hearts and the box office in the '90s.
