That's what I was told. It looks pretty good from that picture.

Will go down and take some closer pics over the weekend.

My big problem with it is it's going over the roof and they say the roof is supposed to evoke the waves of Lake Michigan. So the brown to them basically represents water, which is just so **** stupid.

Well, brown water is accurate for Milwaukee. Image

Exterior zinc = Not sold on yet. It did not impress me at all

I guess the art museum expansion used the same zinc exterior material, I'll check it out over the weekend and share some pics of it on the building.

Nothing else really groundbreaking tonight, a contingent of Common Ground was in the back (they showed a video too) and then there were a bunch of people touting "Solar and garbage power".....OK.

This expansion, Paul?

I like how that looks, actually. Curious how it ages, tho.

Yeah maybe the zinc won't be too bad. If you google zinc siding, it looks pretty decent and is available in a lot of colors. It also appears to be maintenance free and lasts forever practically. It is pretty expensive too.

The finish on the art museum was clean and smooth and looked great, there was zero rust.

Just going off the piece they handed out at the forum, which was covered in rust, it looks very different than the Art Museum.

Get rid of the rust and it will look great.

These posts are from a year and a half ago but this is exactly why I didn't want industrial. Yeah, let's add a **** load of rusted zinc to a building to remind everyone we're in the Rust Belt. On top of that, the brown zinc will be going on the roof, which is represented as a wave. Just horribly designed. The vague first renderings are far better than what the final renderings are.

Yeah, I know everyone likes to laugh at the deep tunnel (I don't even think you guys know what you're laughing at with that) but it just sounds stupid.

If they said before the finished design came out that they want the roof to evoke the waves of Lake Michigan. By the way, we're going to make the roof brown using rusted zinc. What would people have said? Would they be happy with that or would they think it's **** stupid and tell them to change that? My guess and hope is that it would be the latter.

Barclays has a similar rusty look, but uses different material (corten steel).

I'm guessing that's where the emulation is coming from.

It just look plain bad and I think it will age horribly.

If the siding looks like Barclay's, then that would be terrible. If it ends up looking like the art museum, I think it'll look fine.

I'm curious what NBA arenas are the gold standard in terms of architecture.
At a party given by a billionaire, Kurt Vonnegut informs Joseph Heller that their host had made more money in a single day than Heller had earned from his novel Catch-22.

Heller responds, “Yes, but I have something he will never have — ENOUGH.”

I think Amway looks great. I also think Staples, Pepsi, Moda and TWC look nice as well.

in my eyes, something as grand as an nba arena is just not cut out for that rusty, industrial look. now maybe that's cool for a smaller and more simple building like a restaurant, but on the scale of a stadium it just becomes an eyesore and looks pretty out of place.

for arenas, it's either the modern look or go home.

Brick can look bad too, just look at the midwestexpress center, what a mess inside and out
At least the new arena has some character. The BC is the most boring arena ever

Given how much effort was put into getting the rebrand right, I'd be shocked if the final product re: the arena isn't very cool looking. These guys seem to have a good pulse on this kind of stuff at least.

I also think the rust thing is being overblown here. My guess is that it looks more like copper.

You could be right but they passed an actual piece around (Paul posted the pic) and it looked more like rust than copper to me. I can't imagine they would design something for half a billion dollars that looked rusty.

Thanks, Triple.

I think that looks pretty cool and unique. I'm more concerned about the dead zones around the stadium than the zinc patina. Hopefully those are things that can still be changed/improved.

Based on yesterdays comments it looks like naming rights will be announced by the end of the year and that BMO Harris and Poto are definitely in the mix.
