Man I don't see it with Kolek. Poor athlete (Dragic was a good athlete) no real midrange game (unlike Brunson or McConnell), good but not great shooter. Crafty finisher and good passer but I think he's overmatched at this level.

I don't either. He doesn't have the quickness of a McConnell. Probably a better passer but won't be able to guard anyone. Hope I'm wrong.

I don’t think you are.

shooting and defensive weaknesses..... I'd probably still pass if he did slide

Idk that’s tough. Top 10 type of talent falls on your lap at 23 because of injury is still awfully tempting..

I definitely do not see the McConnell comparisons. Could maybe be a Tyus Jones type of bench creator/caretaker?

Kolek's ceiling seems like a Monte Morris type without the absurd turnover efficiency. Not a guy I'd be interested in. Hell no in the 1st round.

All you need to do is go back to the last time the "experts" were saying a draft class was this bad (2020) though. Outside of Desmond Bane, look at all the guys that popped (Edwards, Ball, Haliburton, Maxey, McDaniels, Quickley, Vassell). Still pretty convinced we're dealing 23, but if you keep it, take a swing. Don't just settle for the most NBA-ready 22-23 year old. That's what your 2nd rounder is for.

I have to ask if you think more swing pick s have done better than NBA ready players? I honestly dont believe in experts because I believe most the time the draft is pretty much a craphoot.

Agree. McConnell was a terror defensively in college

At 23 I am ok with taking a NBA ready guys. We are already a contender who needs younger guys to fill out role spots. Sure those don't always pan out but pretty sure that swinging for the fences strikes out even more thn finding role players.

Just pick a player with a good foundation: physically adequate, intuitive handle on the angles of the game, competitive. Those guys always find the court. Whatever player fills those 3 criteria and stacks the most skill and/or athleticism on top of it.

The top talent isn't the strength of this draft, so there should be similar talents available without the injury concern

Gimme Tyson or Dillon Jones at 33 and I don't care what they do with the 1st. I'm very confident those dudes are NBA players.

The Athletics latest mock had Ware, George, and Dunn as the top 3 picks of round 2. Yeah, we should stack picks at the beginning of round 2. The financial aspect of that would help us avoid the 2nd apron.

Tomlin is a weird case. Doesn't really know how to play the game, didn't play organized ball in high school at all, but a gifted 3-level scorer. Long and quick at 6-10 with touch and timing. Great shooter, elite finisher. Got kicked out of Kansas State for a bar fight, unknown if Albanians were involved.

Yet despite having him and a top shelf backcourt with Quinerly and Jones, Memphis was 5th in the AAC.

Major red flags but some high value traits.

Since you are discussing players with red flags. What is everyone's take on Terrance Shannon Jr? If not for his legal issues he would be a consensus first round pick. He has the potential to be do it all starting wing in the league. Would it be worth drafting him to hold his rights, if we can acquire a mid to late 2nd?
