Good call. If we had more assets, we wouldn't have to gut the entire team to acquire Kyrie.

Never change.

If we have either that Lakers pick, Powell, or maybe some cap flexibility we could have gotten this deal done. Keep defending your boy tho.

Yeah, that 25th overall Clippers pick totally would have swung the deal the other way.

F'ing Lakers pick. Going to bite us in the ass in 2021, when we lose in the Finals and talk about how nice it would've been to have Porter/Bagley/etc.

The good ones hold firm. Ainge probably felt what he gave them was more than fair. Boston keeps the rest of their goodies.

Nah. The Lakers still have time to sign every good free agent ever and put out a playoff team. That pick probably won't even be in the lotto. Doesn't matter.

This sucks.

We had a real chance to come out of the East. Giannis has 4 more years, you guarantee giving him 2 really competitive years to stoke his appreciation for the organization, you have great crowds, you then have a new arena...we become a real marquee team..

...then if Kyrie bounces after 2 you still have a chance to fire Kidd. Maybe you even hire Coach K to bait Kyrie/Jabari to stay.

We are going nowhere with Khris as the second best player and Jason Kidd as the coach. This was the time to push the chips in the middle.

Boston gets the Lakers 1st next year if it falls between 2 and 5 (Fultz trade). If they don't get that pick they instead get the more favorable of the Sixers and Kings 1st in 2019 provided that neither of those is the #1 pick. If one of those is the #1 pick, then Boston gets the less favorable pick.

They also have the Clippers lottery protected 1st in 2019 or 2020. If the Clippers are in the lottery both years, the Celtics instead get a 2022 2nd round pick.

They also have the Grizzlies 1st round pick protected 1-8 in 2019, 1-6 in 2020 and unprotected in 2021.

They also owe two 2nd round picks to OKC in 2018 and Memphis in 2019 though those teams only get those picks if they're between 56 and 60. If the picks fall between 31 and 55, the obligation disappears.

For reference, we have three 2nd round picks owed to us but we only get them if they fall between 56 and 60 and we owe a 2nd to either Philly or Sacramento in 2019. If our 2nd is more favorable, it goes to Philly, if it's not, it goes to Sacramento.

Selling every decent piece for two years of Kyrie would have **** us over. Happy we didn't get it done.

Not so glad myself to be entirely honest. As I said in a previous topic about this, Parker, Brogdon, a first and someone out of delly/telly/mirza would be the highest I could go for Irving, given the specifics regarding both the trade timing and the player himself.

We also knew that the Cavs would close the phone laughing, unless Middleton was the center piece. Under those circumstances, Middleton, Brogdon and a first for 2 years of Irving would be an overpay for me (Irving leaving LeBron for LeBron light is not a reason for resigning).

What happened in the end is that there was no deal involving Mil, and we have two players now knowing they may be more expendable to the FO than they previously imagined. It's never good for a player in a upwards trending team to learn he is the one that may leave.

So, I'd have preferred for us to not have even gotten into this in the end.

I'm dissappointed but ok with us missing out on Kyrie. I though he would compliment Giannis very well.
I don't think Brogdon and Middleton will be offended if they heard they could be traded to Cleveland. I hope they both come back with an attitude. Brogdon developing further and Middleton's return to his 2016 form are big.
