I wish I could use this offer to negotiate with my current school for a raise, but unfortunately education in the United States doesn't work like that. Breaking my contract at this point could cost me up to 4 grand.
You either have free market capitalism or you don't... the US is confusing me LOL

Intrastate travel within Australia is also severely restricted. And the government of South Australia, one of the country’s six states, developed and is now testing an app as Orwellian as any in the free world to enforce its quarantine rules. People in South Australia will be forced to download an app that combines facial recognition and geolocation. The state will text them at random times, and thereafter they will have 15 minutes to take a picture of their face in the location where they are supposed to be. Should they fail, the local police department will be sent to follow up in person. “We don’t tell them how often or when, on a random basis they have to reply within 15 minutes,” Premier Steven Marshall explained. “I think every South Australian should feel pretty proud that we are the national pilot for the home-based quarantine app.”

This is super, super overstated. They've been using that for a while and it's more representative of lack of resources than anything else. Assumedly you can delete the app once you've done your quarantine anyway. Some states in Australia are still talking about covid elimination but I suspect that disappears when people want the economy to actually function again.
We are probably a victim of our own success. Eliminated covid with lockdowns multiple times in multiple states so were never forced to face the reality of living with it. Combine that with many mistakes with the vaccine rollout and hesitancy as most people didn't see the need to vaccinate against something that wasn't a threat and we've got close to where the rest of the West was last year.
With the war on terror lots of metadata laws were passed that allowed the government to keep all of our individual data for 4 years anyway. Lots of not the smartest people in Australia are just working out that there's science, history and civil rights stuff that they never paid attention to in school and think their eyes are being opened for the first time

The article was light on details. Does everyone have to download that app? Only people who test positive?

It's in one state where no-one goes to (my home state) and I think it's just for people who are going there for their quarantine period. They still think they'll eliminate covid again which is lol. I dunno if they are even using it still, this was from maybe a month ago and we've had outbreaks since and they shut their borders.

Nineteen Eighty-Four is a pretty quick read, really though its worth reading just to have context for all the folks that try to misconstrue it nowadays.

I've been a little down on USO this year because of what seems to be the inevitability of the men's draw and how much I **** hate it. This is actually the first match I've watched (turned it on after Freddy's 2nd) and it has not disappointed.

Announcers saying the crowd was against Osaka is hilarious. All you had to do was listen to the points for the last half hour.

That is exactly why I want to read it. I'm sure most people who refer to it haven't read/understood it.

Wait, Tsitsipas lost to Alcaraz? That's incredible. Alcaraz is a big young name, but that is an early arrival. I'm pretty sure he just turned 18. That just does not happen in the men's game anymore - hardly at all.

And go figure, I just got a 2nd interview with a company the day before school starts. Not sure what I'm going to do if I get offered a job.
Officially offered a job. Feel like it’s in my best interest but I am sick to my stomach thinking about telling my school/coworkers after literally the first 3 days of school.
Does anyone know how to negotiate a job offer? I was given a range by a recruiter and was offered directly in the middle of that. If I counter above the range I was told could they rescind the offer?
