So he was a top aau prospect in highschool, 5 star. Mvp of one of the hardest aau leagues as a junior and was going head to head against alot of guys from the 2021 draft class and holding his own. Then he decided instead of going to college he would go to a private training facility in san fran called chamelon BX that was run by former nba coaches because he wanted to work on his body and add muscle (and rumor is he had some academic problems that woulda made getting into some colleges tough, however he did have lots of offers from alabama georgetown washington and usc.)

So he joins this private facility and then covid hits and cali shuts everything down. Hes stuck lifting alone in his apartment and trying to find outside courts to play in and spirals into lonliness and depression and moves home.

Basically is forgotten and is about to quit ball all together, when his childhood friends convince him to come play for their team at the local community college, where he remembers why hes loves basketball and also dominates. Then with the some help from jamal crawford he gets a try out for the g league ignite and makes the team. He becomes the 2nd leading scorer on a team with a bunch of greedy guards and a coach who admitted he never ran a play for him.

Hes an elite 5 star prospect who because of covid and his choices kind of got forgotten by the league.

He slipped to a 4 star prospect pretty much across the board FWIW. Was right around that 50 mark by ESPN, Rivals, 247, etc.

Yeah ESPN 100 had him at 47 out of high school (4 out of 5 stars).

I'm glad to have him and Mamu. These guys put in the work. You can just kind of tell they will reach whatever their potential is.

He was a few inches taller, but what about Stacey Augmon?

I can't find bare feet height for Augmon, but he was 6'8" in shoes. So not that much taller. Might be a decent comp, but MarJon must be a better 3P shooter than Augmon.

He's lights out from the corner 3 in summer league. His handles seem to get bad when he's driving had a few really nice plays where he sized his man up and put him on skates.

Maybe if his name was Denise instead of Dennis.

The more I watch of MJB the more I like. He moves very well without the ball and on defense. Sometimes he looks a bit tentative and has to tighten the handle in traffic but those aren't major hindrances. With the little usage he needs to make an impact, I can see him doing well in the league. I think the vets are going to love having him out on the court.

His handle is fine for what he'll be asked to do on the main roster, which is basically just be able to put it on the floor attacking closeouts. I'd just tell him to work on his pump fake.

Not a terrible comp, but Ariza always had a slight clumsiness / uncoordination to his game.

MarJon has sneaky athleticism & is very balanced, except when trying to dribble through traffic.

That's what he's been very bad at, though.

It's way worse in pick-and-roll. He tried a couple of times to split the screen but his handle lacks tightness and being within the box.

He tends to look moderately better on single coverage and when he's decisive with what he wants to do. He'll improve.

Nothing has been overly consistent but I think he has demonstrated some ability to dribble, some ability to catch and shoot, some ability to pull up shoot, lots of defense both man and team, shot block ability, some transition scoring, good close out ability and some nice passing ability.

A year in our program and a year of strength training while being near Giannis, this dude could be special but certainly the floor is looking like a wing George Hill type. Which version of Hill I am not sure but that’s my thought.

Interesting comp.

Hope he's a better shooter. Augmon made 12 3s in 1000 career games.

I know he’s mentioned him himself, but Mikal Bridges as a comp, maybe best case, feels about right.

can he handle the ball in transition? that skill will make a big difference in his value.

That's wishful thinking, but I hope he at least approaches that.
