Officially offered a job. Feel like it’s in my best interest but I am sick to my stomach thinking about telling my school/coworkers after literally the first 3 days of school.

Does anyone know how to negotiate a job offer? I was given a range by a recruiter and was offered directly in the middle of that. If I counter above the range I was told could they rescind the offer?

Don't ever feel bad for employers, and employees will understand you have to do what's best for you.

But yea, of course they can rescind the offer, for any reason. For all you know if you turn it down or counter, they'll offer the job to the next candidate that will take it. If the salary is within the range that would make you change companies, take it. It sounds like you've really wanted out. You can try and negotiate something bigger, but you also wanna weigh how much you care to go back to sending out applications for the next 3-4 months if they decide to switch to someone who'll take the job at their number.

I always negotiate job offers. I've never had one rescinded and although I usually get the salary I want I don't always. Let's say the range is $10k-$20k and they offer me $15k. I'll come back with something like "let's do $18k and we're good to go". At worst I've heard "we can't go any higher". But 90% of the time I get what I ask for. They like you enough to make you the offer I doubt they rescind. Of course it's easy to say that when it's someone else.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Thats kind of a red flag isnt it? So they gave a range and if you ask for more they can pull the offer? Id go with what MD says tbh plus if you ask for more and they pull the offer IMO you dodged a bullet

I was more wondering (to use MDs example):

Phone screening with recruiter mentions 10K-20K. I am offered 15K. Is it bad practice to counter and say I’d be much more comfortable in the range of 20K-23K?

If you ask for more than their stated range it's less likely you'll get it but I still don't think they'd rescind the offer.

Some companies have very strict salary ranges while others have more flexibility.

Everyone talks about salary negotiation but sometimes you can negotiate on benefits. Asking for a an extra week of vacation or extra personal days. If they shut you down from more salary you could go this route.

As long as you aren't a dick about it, it doesn't hurt to ask. But if you are a dick they could rescind, figuring you will probably start looking for another job as soon as you start this one.

Perfect weather, 3 day holiday weekend, last Sunday without the NFL until February. Went to the driving range early, now tailgating at AmFam field, Brewers game, more grilling tonight and chilling tomorrow.

How is everyone else spending the weekend?

That does sound great. It is beautiful weather - I'm planning on a run today. Otherwise using the weekend to continue getting settled post-move, but also having some downtime, which has been severely lacking the past two months. Perfect timing for a long weekend.

Went on a date that went real well until the morning, and now I'm snapping back to the reality that I'll probably die alone

I love FAA, but obviously pulling for Tiafoe here. He's really been locked-in this past week.

Ya, we're still lacking some quality in the midfield and attacking. Really wish Musah would have been healthy, assuming Berhalter would have played him. I can't deal with Acosta.

Acosta has been alright tonight IMO, nice ball on the goal
