Has anyone tried emulating switch games on a steam deck before? Curious about performance

I didn't really care for the last two FEs so the only reason I ever picked up the Switch was BotW and TotK. That's really all I ever used it for.

I played quite a bit of Stardew and AC on my Switch. But mostly BotW/TotK. I did spend a good amount of time playing 2k and Fifa in the early days. But I'd bet I spent maybe 20 hours on it in all of 2024. I didn't like FE enough either.

Sony cancelled two live service projects according to Schreier/Bloomberg. One was of them was live-service God of War. It was being developed by......**** BLUEPOINT.

How do you have that studio and make them work on THAT.

Live service Days Gone might have worked, ngl. But the live service market is obviously ridiculously oversaturated and no execs seem to understand that players can't just pick up and play an unlimited number of live service games, lol. Hopefully Sony is learning from their profoundly stupid loss.

PlayStation fans have speculated for years about Bluepoint's new projects since the well-received PS5 remake of Demon's Souls (2020).

I can report that from 2020-2022 they were helping on God of War Ragnarok. Since then they've been on the live-service project that was canceled today. Now, unclear

Absolutely unreal. I would have put good money on them working on a Bloodborne remake. Sony FFSWYD.

It's been a minute since I posted last. Getting married and flying around for friends' weddings, followed by going straight into the holidays, keeps one busy.

2024 round-up:
  • I played far more tabletop games than video games this year. Rediscovered Magic: The Gathering after 20+ years away; the Commander format has been a great weekly social event that replaced my group's D&D/Pathfinder sessions.
  • Over the holidays, I flipped out my 5600x in my PC for a 5700x3D. As the last, best value-to-performance chip for AM4, I'm hopeful that it will carry my system until AM6. I also added a 4TB Western Digital SN850X to replace a 2TB traditional SSD to store games. Every new game release is getting bigger, so I got the extra space while I could.
  • A friend of mine gifted me Balatro during the holidays. I was a little skeptical of it at first, but in retrospect, it might be game-of-the-year material. Its abstract nature makes it akin to the Tetris of deck builders. Love it.

2025 looking ahead:
  • If I was light on new games in 2024, next year might be worse. I'm actively looking forward to maybe three games at present. I'm sure more will crop up, especially some random indies, but it is slim pickings right now:
    • Hollow Knight Silksong
    • Monster Hunter Wilds
    • Slay the Spire 2
  • I'm more likely to focus on older games I have yet to complete than to pick up new ones this year. Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, and Metaphor: ReFantazio are all huge and incomplete in my library. I also see no need to pick up new multiplayer games when I have reliable ones established with my playgroup like Deep Rock Galactic and Helldivers 2.
  • I need to make time for Street Fighter 6. I have no time to get good at Street Fighter 6. One of the best recent games that gives me paralysis every time I look at it in my library. I simply don't have the free time to dump into it that is necessary to be competent.
  • I'll probably pick up the Switch 2 simply because it'll be backward compatible, but I'm not exactly hyped up yet.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

I've been playing FE for 20 years. I have no plans to stop lol. Three Houses was one of my favorite entries. Engage was not as good as the last few entries, but I still enjoyed it.

Bruh.

Very pumped for Civ7.

Been playing the hell out of DayZ and it’s fun but not as fun as it could be with friends. I have a group of 4-5 buddies who will be ready for Civ. We do a weekly Wednesday night game night for one specific game and it’s always a blast when it’s Civ and we were on 6 for a few months last spring/summer.

In the meantime we started Back 4 Blood. I think I got it for like $4 on sale. Game is great. Very similar to Left 4 Dead which was one of my favorites back in the day.

I'm just now plugging in and looking into what Civ7 is doing differently and I'm getting pretty excited too. The army generals are a huge change for me because I hate individual unit micromanagement, which is why I would most often try to win with diplomacy or science (and then ultimately set each game down after 50 some hours). Hope it plays as well as it sounds.

A bunch of AC Shadows previews just dropped. Gonna be an easy pass for me. Looks identical to AC Valhalla, and I've had enough of that formula.

On one hand, Ninja Gaiden 4 is something I didn't think I'd ever see. It's an all-time series for me.

On the other hand, I don't think this looks good. :(

I almost yelled when I realized we were getting new NG. My excitement pretty quickly sank. Ugly graphics, flashy screen effects, and rails??

All that said, Ninja Gaiden II remake shadowdrop!!!

This looks so much better and god damn it's out now today. I'm so happy.

I've struggled to keep with anything the past several weeks while waiting for everything I want in February to drop. Picked up a couple things on mega-sale (<$10 total on 3 games); some interesting and I think good games, but didn't hold my attention.

Decided randomly to go back to EA Sports PGA Tour. It never caught me as I hated that you had to play full 4-round tournaments, 1-round, or only play random holes. I wanted 2-round tourneys so I could get to know the course on day one, and then have a real feeling of final day. Anyway, I decided to just play 1-round tourneys and it's been a good time. Performance is terrible on PC, but the gameplay is really solid and the career mode mechanics work well. Tons of courses. I still wish there were 2-round tournaments, but it's been nice to get some run out of it after originally setting it down so fast. Think I'll play a few rounds/tournaments a week for a while now.

Picked up Timberborn tonight, which I've had on my wishlist for like two years, so we'll see how that goes. It's definitely up my alley. I need to figure out which games in Feb I'll pick-up day one. Avowed is absolutely day one unless it reviews terribly, and so I'll probably wait on Monster Hunter Wilds until I'm done with Avowed. Not sure about KC:D2 and Civ7. With few exceptions, I'm bad at going back to games after I set them down, so I want to try and be strategic

I know we have a bunch of Steam Deck users here. I'm thinking of picking one up for an upcoming euro-trip, and thought it wouldn't suck to have generally. Tbh I'm reasonably content with it being a purchase solely for my trip (and another next year), but I'm curious to know what y'all think of yours. Less about how much you use it, more about if you feel like it's a good system, how the OS is, if you've done any emulation, etc.

Found out today there's a nice little Xbox app on Steam that turns your Deck into a portable Xbox. It still probably isn't enough for me to pick one up, but it's not nothing.

Steam Deck is one of the best purchases I've made, not kidding. I've used it a bunch and really enjoy it. Emulation is great but I find that having my favorite PC games available at any time in a portable fashion just makes me end up playing those when I have time because of my enormous backlog. It's a portable PC at a great price point, wont run as great as an actual PC at the same price point, but the advantages you get with the Steam Deck make it go greatly in its favor, and it runs Linux OS so if you're a tech nerd you can mess around a bunch with that. But all you need is an internet service and you're good to go, there's no subscription services you have to pay for to enjoy your games. You suddenly have a bunch of time to play games with the Steam Deck, the portability is sort of mind blowing. The hardware is miles ahead of the switch, I love Nintendo games, but there's really no comparison to be made there.

Ergonomics are also nice, I have big hands and thought it would be uncomfortable, but have put pretty long sessions on it and have never gotten sore really. Great purchase for those who haven't made the transition from console to PC, as it's basically a middle ground. Also perfect for those who are entrenched in PC gaming, you can jump right into your steam backlog. Setting it up to a TV is easy and the controller compatibility is impressive. Will also add it has been able to run about 85% of the games in my library without a hitch.

I could go on and on about how great of a value of a purchase it is, I didn't do a great job at explaining all the benefits, theres tons of info on the internet about it (generally just rave reviews). Highly recommend, it's blown me away.

Nah man, you nailed it. Just ordered :D As much as I trust my favorite sources (who have indeed raved about it, especially the OLED model), it's always nice to source from y'all. Thanks!

Totally get wanting the more personal source  I only intended to use it on trips initially as well, but found I started using it more than that just because it really is a versatile piece of hardware. Judging by your posts and the games you seem to be into, I really think you will love the thing. Cheers!
