Article about some guys to keep an eye on for the buyout market/why it's not as big a deal as it used to be.

https://www.spotrac.com/news/_/id/2620/2025-nba-buyout-market

Some names that stand out to me for one reason or another:

- Seth Curry, obviously a strong connection to our head coach
- Tre Jones, an actual young talent
- Cam Reddish, we were rumored to be interested at one point weren't we?
- Josh Richardson, former Bucks RealGM crush
- PJ Tucker, former Buck

Yeah but he's on the Bucks' injury report today.

Probably just waiting for paperwork to get filed at the league office. Middleton and Johnson were both on the injury reports after being traded.

Sure, before the trade deadline.

Aside from all the off-court stuff, the KPJ from a strictly basketball standpoint could be a nice low-key get, especially replacing a guy not playing. He at least can get his own bucket, which we need when the offense breaks down or lack of offense being drawn up by Doc.

So we officially have an open roster spot right? Khris, AJJ, Wright, Marjon are out with Kuzma, KPJ, and Sims in? Cam Reddish is a guy we've had interest in before, so given that Horst is nothing if not entirely predictable, I'm expecting him to be a Buck at some point.

If AJJ stayed a Buck and could do 30% of this yall would be creaming your pants..

Funny part of this video is watching Brynn and KM try to play defense and be out of position almost every play.

Seems like he has to the tools to be a backup PG

Did i see that we cant get a buy out guy if he had a contract, before the buyout, of $11mil per year or higher?

The thing that stood out to me in the Kuzma videos is habits... he runs the floor even when he doesn't have the ball... that's going to look very different to us.

If the KPJ deal doesn't go through then there's no spinning this as a positive deadline at all. It's sad that we're in this position but he made it palatable

It at least half went through... Bucks had a thank you MarJon thing posted on Instagram. Welcomes for Kuzma and Sims, but nothing for KPJ yet.

Maybe Horst got confused and thought he traded for Michael Porter Jr?

That could never happen in the NBA. A GM failing to communicate clearly about two players with the same last name?

Circa 2018:

"Deal's suddenly in peril. Memphis and Phoenix didn't communicate directly on trade, using Washington as a conduit in coordinating the 3-team deal, sources tell [ESPN's Zach Lowe] and me," he wrote on Twitter. "Grizzlies believe they were trading MarShon, but somehow Suns believed it was Dillon."
Amos Barshad: "So you got a job, a place to live, a license? What’s left?"

Giannis: “Nothing. Just get a ring now.”

I'll never feel like I 100% know a celebrity, but he's always come off as a nice guy in the DC community. Just has some questionable fashion decisions lol. It's a bit old now, but I always remember the stuff he did for people back in his hometown of Flint, MI.

https://www.nba.com/news/kyle-kuzma-nba-cares-community-assist-award-november

Edit: Would say the same about Bradley Beal. Feel like having the trade clause and rotting away with the Wizards for awhile really hurt his public reputation, but him and John Wall did a lot in the community. Beal helped us get a set of two basketball courts, a public pool, and like 15 tennis courts built next to my house and he hosted a street ball tournament there when it first opened, had a bunch of local black-owned businesses post up to sell food and whatnot and help raise funds for them with it too. I never got to meet Beal personally but I'm kinda close with one of the business owners that collaborated with him on that tournament and she still speaks so highly of him.

I think it needs to be under $12.8 million.

At least Kuz means less Prince and less Brook. Along with KPJ both Dame and Giannis can take a break too. There were playing too many minutes lately.

Lillard (34)/KPJ (14)
AJJ (20)/Green (20)/Trent (6)
Kuzma (14)/Prince (20)/Trent (14)
Giannis (34)/Kuzma (14)
Brook (28)/Bobby (20)

We can go 10 deep now and that’s without Rollins, Pat, Sims. Just keep everybody fresh and involved until the playoffs.

We have a lack of mid-size bodies that can hold their own guarding up & down + board. Really the only 2 are Pat & Ajax.

I'd like to pick up another player in that mold, ideally. Nobody on that list really fits. Javonte Green would though.

kuzmas reputation was and always will be affected by how lebron maneuvered for years to dump him in deals. imagine being a young guy with a little talent being so openly shopped/trashed/shamed by your team captain.

i think it altered his perception permanently with the casuals. its similar but perhaps the worst of reeves and caruso and russell and shroder and almost anybody out there and how it worked out. if lebron doesnt win any given year his cast is shamed and devalued. even westbrook and davis reputations were harmed compared to how other places would be.

so to go from that situation to the tanking mess in washington plaing with the likes of poole and others where he continued to be shopped and go thru the motions.... reputation wise hes had a cursed career....im happy we may give him his first real shot of ever being in a situation where he can feel wanted on a winner with an important and supported role. i think theres a similarity to bobby portis here with how these next couple seasons go. hes obviously a talented guy. i really hope were getting the very best and experienced and grateful version of him yet

Biggest gripe is that we still feel 1-2 players short when Brook/Bobby aren't playable against some of the top playoff teams, and/or we have to play 4-on-5 offense with Andre out there.

Dame
Green/Trent/KPJ??
Prince
Kuzma
Giannis

Is that what our "small-ball" lineup looks like? We still don't have a real perimeter stopper right now on defense and it's not like you upgraded the perimeter shooting much at all. If the goal was to just dump Khris for a warm body that can soak up 28-30 minutes a night, then mission accomplished I guess. Because we did absolutely nothing beyond that to address any the roster weaknesses.

Prince is fine as a spot up shooter when others create space for him. He’s brutal otherwise when he tries to play outside of his skill set. I guess he’s fine as a defender but I don’t have much confidence there either. That small ball lineup is atrocious imo. Giannis at center just isn’t the recipe for success, sorry not sorry. He’s developed so many habits over his career that make it impossible for him to settle into that role. Small ball or traditional or whatever you want to say, when Giannis is the lone defensive anchor, we lose those minutes much more often than not. Horst did jack **** to soften that stance. If major changes are coming, Horst being canned should be 1st on the agenda. Having Brook Lopez as a “spacer” still on the roster makes no sense. We should change that whole ideology with him and call him a “camper” or a “trailer” because that’s all he ever does.
RIP Kobe Forever. GOAT 8-24. Long Live Giannis

Yep. In my opinion there were exactly zero teams that wanted to have Khris Middleton on their roster next year at $34 million.

They only way he was going to get moved is if you took back some bad money or attached an asset. We sort of split the difference. We attached an asset (AJ Johnson) and took back some meh money ($40 million owed to Kuzma).

And I understand the "why don't we just keep Khris" crowd. By moving him for Kuzma we will save $13 million on our payroll next year. That either keeps us under an apron or allows another player on the roster. Add in the fact Middleton could go down tomorrow with another ACL, the move had to be made primarily for next year purposes.
