What if they don't pay the tax until Giannis signs an extension and Giannis doesn't sign an extension until they pay the tax? Or maybe Giannis doesn't extend until Jrue extends, but Jrue doesn't extend until Giannis extends because he doesn't want to get stuck without his superstar like in New Orleans? This is an undersold aspect of all the stuff they gave up for Jrue instead of just trading Bledsoe, #24, and maybe one of those future picks for Bogdan. The Kings got nothing for Bogdan, so you would think they would be amenable to that. Bogdan is just over 2 years younger than Jrue and would have been under contract for 4 years at roughly half the salary Jrue will inevitably command (unless he sucks this year, which would be even worse for the Bucks). You know Giannis is going to be thinking about what the long-term future holds for the Bucks, and with Jrue and Brook being among their core four, that's a problem. Jrue is a much better player than Bogdan, but the most important thing is getting Giannis to re-sign, and it's not unreasonable to think the Bucks could have given up much LESS in assets and future salary for a player who was MORE likely to persuade Giannis to stay. That Jrue trade is the gift that keeps on giving.
