Re: Khris Middleton Appreciation Thread
I’ve been reminiscing about the last 12 years since it was announced that Khris was traded. Feels like a bad breakup and I’m really sad. At the same time I really appreciate what we had.
Khris was part of the Bucks revival. Thinking back to the Brandon Jennings trade, drafting Giannis in 2013. We had a sliver of hope. Then that awful season with Larry Drew happens and we draft Jabari. Herb Kohl sells the team. New owners come in, Jason Kidd gets hired. A new stadium is approved.
Giannis and Khris develop under Kidd and we start to get hopeful. Those were some of my favorite years, even though Kidd held us back. Seeing Giannis and Khris develop under into young stars gave me so much hope.
Then obviously the Bud years were incredible. A switch was flipped. We got a new arena. Milwaukee was buzzing. We made some key under-the-radar signings and dominated the league for four years. Jrue joined the squad and we finally had a real big three. Khris and Giannis were fully in their prime. We won a ring, should’ve won at least one more. Khris was part of it all.
How quickly it can all come crashing down with Jrue and Khris getting older, and all those injuries Khris had. Just four years ago he was at his peak.
I’ve been active on this forum since we traded TJ Ford for Charlie Villanueva in 2006, and a Bucks fan my whole life. The Giannis and Khris era will forever be my favorite Bucks era of all time. Maybe it feels so hard to lose Khris because he was basically an extension of Giannis all this time. With him gone, it feels like the changing of the guard and us entering the next Giannis era for the Bucks (I don’t think Giannis will ever leave).
I really hope another great era is coming. But don’t take for granted what we have now. I watch every single game because I don’t want to miss a second of Giannis in his prime. Trading Khris somehow makes it feel more real, more emotional. But I think it was a necessary step for us to re-tool this team for the future. We can still have great title-contending years ahead if we make the right moves this offseason, and we had to trade Khris to give us the flexibility to make that happen.
I will always treasure the Khris years and everything he’s done for this franchise.

Middleton will always be one of my favorite Bucks. Think he was the first jersey I ever got (aside from a custom one with my name on it that someone got me when I was super young). Really going to miss having him on the team.
On the other hand, despite how **** the basketball situation is in DC, I'm selfishly very happy to have him on my local team. I'm patiently waiting for them to confirm what number he's going to wear so I can buy my first Wizards jersey. It feels very fitting for it to be his.

Nice thank you message to Milwaukee from Khris. I still hope he gets to retire as a Buck. Come back for the vet minimum in your retirement year, Khris. Have the farewell year that you’ve earned and deserve in Milwaukee. We will always welcome you back home.

Khris Middleton: the name, the visions the memories. I will remember forever. I wish I could thank him in person. What a man, what a player.
We are a different personality without Khris Middleton. A light went out.

alright, so, he can come back at 35 on the bi annual exception. he'll still be able to shoot and throw lobs to Giannis. that's good enough for a bench guy.
He's still more athletic than Ingles was when he was a Buck and Ingles is still getting some minutes two years later.
Khris is our Horford. He'll be back

what a **** note. jeez. anybody who suggested trading him before should be ashamed. in fact dang....im ashamed i suggested trading him even now. how would i explain it to him if i was sitting there with him.
khirs please get healthy and come back asap. i will petition to free up dollars. 3/30 with player option is perfect but anything to finish it out really should be your call. just still be able to run a little and shoot like you do and im yours.
dang we got lucky with him. he was the most perfect buck to root for ever besides the supers. there isnt anybody else close honestly. my god.

Not always the biggest Khris fan and we obviously waited way to long to trade him, but we don’t win in 2021 without him and he wasn’t a bad dude. My best Khris memory was last year vs Indy when he went full on warrior against that awful team and nearly carried us across the line with no help.
Mad respect for that pacers (and ATL and Phoenix) series, he didn’t need to sacrifice his body like that but he did. And here we are.

that version of khris, which is typically what he was in multiple playoffs....and a healthy giannis.... is all this team ever needed to compete. thats it. just those two. do the math on that.
**** damn. he had the old man game that was supposed to last forever.
practically i need the inside scoop on the whole thing. we dont have it. i want what really went down here.
The floor slip was a fluke and the coaches always ran both of them into the ground in the regular season. Kinda sucks, I think we realistically could have 1 more title.

Well put. Khris was the proximate cause for the 2019 loss and proximate cause for the 2021 title.
People also have unrealistic expectations of NBA careers due to some massive outliers like LeBron and Steph. Marques and Sid were done after ten seasons. Redd technically played 12 seasons but done after 8. Big Dog the same.

I've had the chance to talk to Khris many times over the years. One of the nicest, most humble players I've ever met. A true pro on the court, and in life.
To think there's people out there who doesn't think he's a top 10 Buck of all-time.

"one of the most clutch playoff performances in NBA history during that run with 15 game-tying or go-ahead shots in the fourth quarter and overtime, the most in 25 years. Only LeBron James (2007) had as many."
I knew he was clutch that year but damn.
