That's not what I'm getting at, really.

Entertainment and sports can serve as something to bring people together and an escape for people that suffer from those very issues.

It's not a moral obligation of every entity to face the world's problems. I already stated that I'm not here to completely ignore what is going on in the rest of the world but focusing on it too much, whether you are a victim of these issues or a privileged person, is not great for your mental health in one's short life on this planet.

Whatever, this will be taken the wrong way. I sympathize with anyone that has problems as you suggest but entertainment can make money because people want to escape some of this...just for a few minutes of their day.

You could write/read a longform, deep-dive article about a player or team. You could have comedy articles about the player or team but generally stay away from "Jay-Z's partnership with the NFL is why capitalism is bad" type headlines.

It's all over the internet.

Magary's Why Your Team Sucks, while every once in a while will mock people and teams in a political-ish way are what I'm talking about in a good way. Sports and comedy.

Magary's not "sticking to sports" though. Quality longform pieces also rarely 'stick to sports" too because they delve into the context, backgrounds, and motivations of the subjects being covered. Comedy almost NEVER "sticks to sports" - at least, good comedy.

What you're really saying is that you want to see content that doesn't make you feel upset...and while I respect the reasons for it because the news can be emotionally challenging to navigate, the truth is that once you're willing to look beyond the box score, you're going to be making a value judgment about what is worth your attention and what isn't...and that is an inherently political decision.

I've unfortunately stopped really following much of Magary for the most part.

I do admit that I have it both ways sometimes. I read some of his articles and listen to the Deadcast and yeah, they get slightly political here and there. It's fine in smaller doses.

How did we survive in all years leading up to this in human history? This is new. I'm aware of the political issues going on in the world and the internet and TV are great at getting me that information. I have opinions on them and participate in discourse about them.

Over the last 5-10 years we now have to literally force our way out of having it become wall-to-wall.

It is strange and new age to believe that if someone feels over-saturated by content revolving around these issues that that can be considered "ignoring" the issues. I'm not ignoring them.

"Context, backgrounds, and motivations" in longform articles and their subjects are not, "hey, let me remind you about the Supreme Court justice decision and talk about it for 1000 words I wrote in this article alongside a season preview of the 49ers."

It really isn't new for a huge swath of people, though. My entire life has served as a political statement for the people around me, whether I want to or not. Even when I try to just go out and do mundane things, I run up against issues that impact me personally and professionally.

The only thing that is new, IMO, is that we have these devices in our hands that give us access to the shared thoughts of others 24/7.

I'm not trying to tell you that you're ignoring these issues, either. I'm just saying that what you're asking G/O to do is fundamentally at odds with their very editorial purpose.

I also really feel like a lot of these issues are derived from people having to reckon with the perspectives of people who have led different lives. Back in the day, it was a lot easier to live in a bubble with like-minded folks in your family, neighborhood, or other social circles. That could cause you to be completely unaware of the issues impacting others. And now that those other voices have a platform to share their perspectives with anyone who has access to the internet, everyone's bubble is being burst and we all have to decide how to deal with it. Some people are desperately trying to patch that bubble to block out those perspectives, accusing them of being "political" or "too PC." Others have accepted that their bubble has been burst, and are trying to engage with those perspectives, learn, and allow their own life perspective to be influenced by that experience.

Trust me, I’ve grown up in a bubble and got out of it. I’m not Clay Travis here calling this “PC,” I am pretty sure nobody outside of the Deadspin bubble will read Deadspin. There are some readers that may turn it away because they stopped sticking to sports for political reasons but for me it is not that.

I’m generally not a fan of what the need to make money does to news but aside from the **** management of G/O, for probably the wrong reasons I support the idea of “stick to sports” and let the other commentary sites and twitter accounts create a their bubble on current events.

To be clear, I wasn't talking about you necessarily when it came to the "bubble" comment.

It's more of a general critique of the reactionary responses I've seen from people.

Anyone else love Cheladas? I also love Micheladas. I especially enjoy Clamato in the Chelada.
I admit to being a terrible judge of talent and having minimal knowledge of the game of basketball.

Also to be clear, I’m doing that thing where I say it’s over-the-top and I’m actively ignoring it but I’m gonna argue about THAT with people for a while, so thanks for effectively ending it haha.

If you have a boat its awesome. The chain of lakes never ends.

Pine Isle has a really nice fish fry on Fridays.

There is a tie up that is always a good time.
Why should you go to jail for a crime someone else noticed? You don't need double talk... You need Bob Loblaw.

So I guess I'll give an update?

Yesterday I called her out on all her ****. Got a new place to live. Stayed over at my brother and SILs place and had a great time grilling food and reading stories to my little nieces before bed, who are the absolute light of my life and the best and I would go to the ends of the earth to make them laugh.

Woke up to a monstrous text where she copped to everything, how awful she's been, how amazing I've been. She couldn't sleep, fired it off around 6:00. Did I send it to everyone in my family she trashed me to? Of course. My mom is hella confused but old girl amd dad are super pissed at her. Rightfully so!

Still can't wait to move out. Also, love you all. Thanks for letting me vent. Especially you, chones. You know I love you the most.

ReasonablySober wrote:So a week before my wedding on the 10th my fiance called it off.

She missed living alone for the first time and it scared her. I'm really glad she called it off. In the wake of that decision it's made me realize how much I bent over backwards for her in every way. How I had to compromise on everything and she didn't compromise at all, not even once, even when it had fundamental issues with me behind it (I don't like spending massive amounts of time with groups of people because I get anxious, don't like to close down bars anymore, I like sports and videogames).

Myself and my family paid for literally everything for the wedding and we're not getting a dime back.

The last straw came this morning (we were gonna stay together and work on things, even though she's been a **** nightmare since the week before the wedding). She felt slighted on social media when my sister and SIL unfollowed her (they were right to do so, she was flagrantly happy on IG over the weekend we were supposed to be getting married) and she LOST HER MIND. She lives for affirmation on IG. For two days I've listened to her insult my family, say she never wants to see them again, that she wants both our families out of our relationship. But this morning the second her mom wants to meet with us (interrogate me) she asks me if I'd do that. I called her a hypocrite, said there was no way I'd be doing that. I left for work, found a new apartment with my current landlord, and texted her I was done with this bulls*it and I was done trying so hard when she was trying so little.

Guys: I'm really **** happy right now.

Sorry man, she sounds really selfish and a little unhinged. You deserve someone who will bend over backwards for you.
