You could write/read a longform, deep-dive article about a player or team. You could have comedy articles about the player or team but generally stay away from "Jay-Z's partnership with the NFL is why capitalism is bad" type headlines.
It's all over the internet.
Magary's Why Your Team Sucks, while every once in a while will mock people and teams in a political-ish way are what I'm talking about in a good way. Sports and comedy.
Magary's not "sticking to sports" though. Quality longform pieces also rarely 'stick to sports" too because they delve into the context, backgrounds, and motivations of the subjects being covered. Comedy almost NEVER "sticks to sports" - at least, good comedy.
What you're really saying is that you want to see content that doesn't make you feel upset...and while I respect the reasons for it because the news can be emotionally challenging to navigate, the truth is that once you're willing to look beyond the box score, you're going to be making a value judgment about what is worth your attention and what isn't...and that is an inherently political decision.

I've unfortunately stopped really following much of Magary for the most part.
I do admit that I have it both ways sometimes. I read the articles and listen to the Deadcast and yeah, they get slightly political here and there. That's fine.
How did we survive in all years leading up to this in human history? This is new. I'm aware of the political issues going on in the world and the internet and TV are great at getting me that information. I have opinions. Over the last 5-10 years we now have to literally force our way out of having it become wall-to-wall.
It is strange and new age to believe that if someone feels saturated by content revolving around these issues that that can be considered "ignoring" the issues. I'm not ignoring them.

It really isn't new for a huge swath of people, though. My entire life has served as a political statement for the people around me, whether I want to or not. Even when I try to just go out and do mundane things, I run up against issues that impact me personally and professionally.
The only thing that is new, IMO, is that we have these devices in our hands that give us access to the shared thoughts of others 24/7.
I'm not trying to tell you that you're ignoring these issues, either. I'm just saying that what you're asking G/O to do is fundamentally at odds with their very editorial purpose.
I also really feel like a lot of these issues are derived from people having to reckon with the perspectives of people who have led different lives. Back in the day, it was a lot easier to live in a bubble with like-minded folks in your family, neighborhood, or other social circles. That could cause you to be completely unaware of the issues impacting others. And now that those other voices have a platform to share their perspectives with anyone who has access to the internet, everyone's bubble is being burst and we all have to decide how to deal with it. Some people are desperately trying to patch that bubble to block out those perspectives, accusing them of being "political" or "too PC." Others have accepted that their bubble has been burst, and are trying to engage with those perspectives, learn, and allow their own life perspective to be influenced by that experience.
