we can, should and will pay him the most. with a league wide spotlight on him hes already done enough for us to recive a deal at least what hes courrently on depending on how long he demands we go. of course multiple years is more the issue than what he makes next year from us obviously.

plus... and this is big..... the more we pay him the more trade flexibility we have with that salary slot. we can create another brook lopez like salary slot to manuever in trades if we want to keep giannis/khris/jrue off the table. if we went 10 mil next year then all of a sudden a package of patc/brook/tucker can start getting in another max range guy.

this deal was an absolute home effing run and pj tucker on danny green like contracts for the foreseeable future makes all the sense in the world assuming the owners arent pennypinching with the tax

I'm a big Tucker fan and was clamoring for bringing him in but I'd be pretty afraid of a multi year deal coming his way from another contender.

you think somebody could offer him more than mle? 3 years?

i think a 2 year deal just over mle seems about right. if somebody uses salary space to trump that it would shock me considering his age

I thought the most we could extend him was 2 year at 8M per but possible I just dreamed that up somewhere

It won't be an extension. He's an unrestricted free agent this summer, and we have full Bird rights. We can offer up to a 5 year max contract with 8% raises. (lol)

Love what he’s done but offer a vet minimum and nothing else. Jesus do we ever learn?

If he doesn't want the vet minimum, I'll let him walk. He's 36. The Brooklyn series felt like his swan song.

I'd offer a smidge above the vet min as a goodwill gesture, but wish him well if he secures another bag after we win the chip.

If the Bucks win it all, there's really little I wouldn't do short of moving Giannis. I think a savvy GM would explore moving Middleton and Jrue for younger players and high upside lottery picks.

No, I mean if they do. Or if they don't, I guess.

Jrue and Middleton will never be better than they are now. I'd try to work on getting the next championship level core.

I feel like even a savvy GM would struggle to sell actively breaking up a championship core immediately.

It's probably nuts and I wouldn't give those dudes away of course. But I do think about what it might be like with a still in his prime Giannis and a couple max contract guys who aren't worth their deals.

You do that and Giannis marches straight into your office and requests a trade.

We wouldn't have to use the MLE on him right? What's the downside to keeping him to practically any contract besides the B's spending extra money? At worst we have a salary filler that as a tax capped team we wouldn't have at all, at best he actually has value on the court. Seems like a Pat Connaughton scenario again, I don't see any downside.

You seem smarter than that. There is absolutely NO way a franchise player reacts well to finally scaling the mountain after going to war night in and night out with these guys and being told they're no longer in the plans when you're standing there holding the Larry O'brien trophy. That's insanity.

If you give him a bit more than the minimum as was suggested, that money would come out of the MLE.
