Ron Swanson wrote:Jalen Smith would be pretty awesome. Wonder if he's become expendable for PHX with how good Biyombo's ((some of us wanted him 4 weeks ago....) filled in as their back-up 5. Although I'm guessing it would take more than Nwora/Semi/2nd rounder for them to bite. Maybe get a 3rd team involved.
It's very likely Smith gets traded at the deadline. I guess it depends if Phoenix likes Nwora because they are likely to be looking for a wing coming back. More likely it would be a 3 team type deal with someone like Justin Holliday/Craig headed to Phoenix.

He started out fine but looks like he's getting older and slower as the season goes on. I'm okay keeping him on the roster, but if we need his salary to get a more impactful player, I'm not thinking twice.

This is more or less how I feel about Pat. If we can't bait bigs into posting him up, he's a problematic play with his lack of lateral movement skill.

Yeah, 80% of prime Wes is still better as a 3-and-D player than Pat ever was or will be, and the Bucks appear to be getting that from Wes this year despite him looking like a shell of himself for LAL last year. And Allen is clearly a better shooter, while DDV potentially offers much better all-around play if he ever stays healthy. I hope they don't pay Pat big money this summer.

Specifics on the Bucks from Fischer's latest:

Bucks Looking for Bigs

Uncertainty regarding Brook Lopez's injury status looms over Milwaukee's frontcourt rotation, and the Bucks are poking around for center reinforcements ahead of the deadline, sources told B/R.

Semi Ojeleye is considered available for trade, and rival teams have called about wings Pat Connaughton and Donte DiVencenzo, sources said.

Jalen Smith has been mentioned as a potential trade target.

Another Houston veteran drawing significant interest of late has been center Daniel Theis. The high price for Myles Turner has led several teams including Boston, Charlotte, Milwaukee and Toronto to inquire about the Rockets big man.

As the trade market seems to have few two-way wings available, several teams, including San Antonio, Charlotte, Dallas and Milwaukee, have phoned about Cedi Osman.

I’d be down for Jalen Smith. Good reclamation project for the team. Larry Sanders body type with a better jump shot.

I don't know about reclamation project, he's looked really good when he's gotten on the court this year. It's not clear to me why they want to trade him.

They didn't pick up his 3rd year option so he's gone after this season. Not exactly clear why they didnt but reading between the lines from some quotes about him by guys like CP and Monty they deemed him passive and didn't love his mindset. One thing that's been consistent with James Jones as a GM if he doesn't view a guy as a good cultural fit he gets rid of them quickly and with little regard to actually maximizing an asset. Once he's out on someone they move on quickly.

I like Osman as a player, but he seems kind of redundant on this team when we have Grayson, Pat, Wes, Donte, ect. Don’t know if he’s much of an upgrade of any of our younger wings at the moment.

I can't believe Semi Ojeleye, the vet's min player who has been our worst player this season, is available for trade! Other teams must be falling over each other trying to pry him away from the Bucks.

Yeah, Osman doesn't make much sense. I'd be down for Smith or Theis though, as long as they don't cost much.

Why would Cleveland trade Osman? He seems like someone they would want to keep around.

Not a good thread to put it in. But for people working from home, there's a Bucks Jazz game from like 1990 on NBAtv right now.
Resident Lillard truther since 2015.

Only 6 lottery players have had their 3rd year option declined, 3 of them Suns (Smith, Kendall Marshall and Earl Clark). The Suns traded both Marshall and Clark during year 2.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

What would you call a top ten 1st rounder not getting his rookie deal renewed just after one season? Maybe too early to say reclamation project, but he’s been wildly inconsistent and that org from everything I’ve read has been pretty down on him since he got injured with the ankle last year. Feels like they would be punting too early, but I’ll take him over here.

A little clarification on Biyombo, Bucks never had a chance. PHX wanted to bring him in prior to the season, before he even took personal time for family. PHX and BB had a handshake deal that when he returned, it would be with PHX.

Glad that sources are telling Fischer the Bucks are getting calls about Donte -- hopefully that means he has a modicum of value!

It makes sense that teams would be pursuing Pat Connaughton too, though I have a hard time seeing a deal out there where it'd be worth us dealing him.

Bucks have a clear need for Donte at backup PG (especially if Hill or Jrue were to miss any time) but although his D is good he's not really a floor general type.

Wes Matthews playing so well has made it way easier for us to replace Donte's backup SG minutes comparatively. If the Bucks think we could find a reasonable 3rd string PG in the buyout market then it'd make sense to be surveying the market for whether there is a center or big wing we could swap Donte for who'd play a bigger role for us.

Maybe. He definitely wanted to play for a contender and the bucks would have scratched that itch. He's been good, came in in incredible physical shape and he's been hustling his ass off.

“The number one thing for me was that playing this year, I wanted to play for something,” he said. “I wanted a season full of purpose. … It was just a matter of being patient and waiting for the right situation.”

It comes down to money for the Suns.

I like Pat but I wouldn't be opposed to selling high on him right now if it brings back a solid front court player.

I find it hard to believe we would trade him though...Bud, the front office and Giannis seem to love him.

I'll cop to totally missing out on the fact that they declined his 3rd year (wow).

That means that if we do trade for him, we'd be limited to offering him no more than a first year salary of the 4.67m his rookie contract would have paid him, and he'll be a UFA. So if he works out, he's almost certainly a 21 year old rental. Not ideal.

With that assclown sarver it's always a factor but in smiths case replacing him with a vet minimum guy results in pretty minimal savings next season.

I would love to know what they saw in 12 months to go from liking a dude enough to take him in the lotto to disliking him so much you move on especially since he never played last season after getting hurt then getting covid.

As I was saying before James Jones and Monty Williams have a type of player they want around that team and once someone is deemed not one of their guys they move on quickly. It's frustrated some suns fans, hell people still complain about giving TJ Warren away but you can't deny the culture has done a 180 since Jones took over.
