I don't think they do.

Justin Patton DX Strengths: motor.

It's more that he's not that physical and kind of a nervous guy. These things are more improvable than motor issues. Work on his body and poise and he should come along. That's why I like him as a prospect more than most and think he'd be a really good pick at 17, with all his other attributes factored.

Justin Patton is a really strange player to evaluate.
He has some flashes of KAT offensively but there are serious concerns about his rebounding and his overall D awareness. His FT% is a concern too. He is very young that is a positive. In his interviews he speaks really fast but not well spoken. He is probably a really smart kid but I am not sure of his ability to concentrate mentaly. On scouts video I think it was "DX weakness" he looks lost on D like Jabari and a strange refusal to work hard at the boards.

Overall ... interesting and we should have had him worked out with us, already.

Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. His offensive game is what obviously has me most intrigued. The highlights I see of him passing the ball to cutters makes me excited for the possibilities of him finding Giannis and Jabari breaking to the hoop. I don't know if he will ever be a 3 point shooter at the NBA level but I do believe he has enough range to pull defenders out of the paint. Defensively, I agree with you. He sometimes looks overmatched on that end. I like to think that he can improve in that area with some decent coaching due to his solid athleticism and footwork. The main issue I have with him though is definitely the rebounding. I would expect a guy that size to pull down more than 6 reb a game and if there is one skill I feel the Bucks need to add as much as they do shooting, it is rebounding. I just can't help but thinking though that he could be the perfect fit behind Thon and possibly even alongside him when Giannis takes a rest.

Bigs who suck at rebounding and shot blocking in college tend to be pretty poor NBA players

Not the worst gamble at 17 i guess

Patton wasn't great, but was fine at both for a freshman. 9.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per 40 minutes. He needs to get a lot stronger, but he moves really for a big and has solid skills. I think he just needs to work real hard in the gym.

Patton is a very green player who hasn't figured out what he can do yet. The only guy who seems like he could be there who has a decent chance of being very good at both ends down the road. Could also be out of the league.

I was firmly in the anti-Patton camp until I started listening to him in interviews today, he really sounds like he has the right mindset. Not quite a Thon or Giannis-tier (elite) mindset, but a Jabari-ish one which is still very very good.

He doesn't suck at shot blocking though. He's tied for 4th out of 11 of the DX100 prospects at center.

The rebounding is poor. I'll give you that.

But it's not about effort, and his body was on the immature side, so he should improve substantially in that area once he's an NBA vet.

Much more concerned with shooting given a ft% of 52 and limited sample on 3's.

Yeah I'm completely sold on Ike. I like Bam quite a lot as well, but I'm worried about his mentality.

Boxing yourself in that much to a niche need leads you to a lot of draft mistakes. I think you have to balance in need somewhat after the virtual can't miss guys, but you don't want to narrow the pool TOO much.

I agree 100% Bernman. While I too believe the Bucks could use some defensive toughness and rebounding, I feel that they should still be looking for the most well rounded prospect they can find at 17. I just don't feel like the Bucks are yet in a position to draft solely for a specific need.

This is my take as well. I like Patton and John Collins but I think we need a talented, physical defender that can rebound (like Ike). Someone to guard Embiid in the East Finals in a couple years. Someone to be a rim protector when Jabari gets beat.

ETA: These big men are being mocked in the same area (late teens). The talent is similar. The players are very different however. In that case, go for fit.

I am ok with Collins he has the body to play D ... but Leaf doesn't impress me at all, there are like 50 euro (prospects and vets) players like him.

He had a workout yesterday with Jazz I think, and he only did 1-0 drills, he worked out by himself, Jazz staff openly where disappointed by his refusal. Jazz staff said that they can evaluate a player better when he plays against a player and not against a coach.

I am telling you guys, there are many "Leafs" in Europe. At #17 we should search for bigger upside
