I don't think there's any question that Boston got worse this summer.

Agreed.

I think Ainge is hoping the moves they made can lead to acquiring another superstar.

I don't think that's a foregone conclusion. For all his faults, Kyrie is a fabulous offensive player and Hayward is tremendous. Their talent level jumped and they have a young stud in Tatum. I do think they take a step back and they've made some decisions they'll regret as far as role players go, but I get why they did what they did. To me their biggest mistake was targeting Kyrie instead of someone like Butler.

So nobody gonna talk about Payne not making a roster?

I'm sure he still has plenty of fans on this board who'd like to take a flyer on him.

What? Vegas has them at 56.5 and they won 53 last year. Offensively they improved and defensively maybe they take a slight step back because of losing Crowder and Bradely but Irving >>>>> Thomas just purely from a height standpoint and Hayward is Ok on D.

They had an offensive rating of 113 with Thomas on the court and 99 with him off last season. That's a lot of making up to do even with the added acquisition of Hayward.

Alright, maybe I'm wrong come May. But I think they take a step back this season.

Looks like they're building their roster to fit Anthony Davis or Giannis.

Yup. They set themselves up to persuade a third star that you really don't have with Jae Crowder and Avery Bradley.

Boston doesn't need to persuade a 3rd star. They have assets to trade for one.

Which you do not do unless you think they want to stay there.

I had this theory the other day that home team fans can often times push season over under lines to ridiculous places. Like MN being at 48. How many people really follow MN that closely and are like hey I want to bet on them. Over under bets are also weird cause you pay the casino now with the hopes it will pay off 8-9 months from now. I feel like the under bets might historically win out on the average due to irrational home team fan love. I'm not sure if it's true but it seems plausible.

Teague-Butler-Wiggins-Towns-Deng, with Taj Gibson off the bench
Looks pretty hopeful to me, particularly Towns and Wiggins are overdue to be good. Either it all works well or it doesn't, but I wouldn't surprise me either way.

I agree with your theory. Vegas just wants to be in the middle of both sides of the bets (so they are guaranteed to make money) and irrational fan love props up what a team is actually likely to win. Smaller fan bases like MN have more negligible impacts.

Speaking of over / under I'd go with that Boston under. Celtics fans are getting a little ahead of themselves. Although maybe they use those future assets to make a big play at the trade deadline.

So Markkanen looks pretty damn good and I may be wrong for laughing at the Bulls passing on DSJ for him.

Yeah I thought Markkanen is a giant overhyped douche who will fall apart in the league
Maybe not so after all

The thing with Dennis Smith Jr. is he has to be a near top 10 PG to be a difference maker in this league for him which is so hard to be. Like, to be a true difference maker at PG, you have to be elite. Cause so many are so good. Whereas at PF, less completion. Markkanen, if his shooting translates could easily be a top 10 PF in the mold of a Porzingas and give you that position advantage against other teams. If DSJ just becomes a Kemba type player, I mean, yea, that's good. But that's not a difference maker.

I mean, think about it. DSJ was what, the 3rd PG taken in his draft? That alone suggests he's not as good as Lonzo Ball and Fultz. If he's just going to end up being the 15th best PG type guy, with as easy as it is to be a PG nowadays, not really going to change the win column. I also think that he's going to be an extremely liability on defense. He's near Kemba sized but doesn't try on that end. Going to be a big numbers guy with little effect on the win column type guy. At least with Lauri you have a PF/small ball C who can space the floor. He's honestly the ideal C for bball right now. An elite shooter who draws opposing Cs out of the paint. And defensively, he has the size and height to at least be average in that end. Nothing about Smith says he'll be good on defense

Kyrie will probably have a career season as a scorer, but I don't think he'll be anywhere near IT as a game manager. Celtics fans seem to think it was Brad Stevens and his system tho so who knows

Kryie is going to have a huge offensive year. The Cavs offense while good still sucked scheme wise they just had talent. Kyrie took 6.1 3pa last year I guarantee that goes up a lot and probably around Curry level of 10/game. He also shot 44.5% on spot up 3s and 40% overall. He is going to have a huge offensive year under a coach that will know how to maximize his skills. Good pick for fantasy.

Oh and hes 25... and most players have their best years around 27/28. Still :banghead: that we didn't offer more to get him.
