I would pay good money to watch Thanasis do the "chest pass the ball through the hoop" thing. He will do it full speed where he is sprinting to the next spot only to have to go back to actually make it....five times.

If Giannis gets his team to 4-0 on the west coast with a defeat of the NBA #1 overall Suns and puts up big numbers, I think you have to throw him back on top of the MVP race. He's been awesome this trip and just destroyed the lakers, and he's hitting everything from 3's to midrange to dunks.

Right now he's listed as 3rd from last week with Embiid and #1 and the Joker at #2, but if he takes care of business vs the Suns...cmon you got to move him up to the top.

And a big showing at the All Star game...man he's definitely making a case in everyone's mind he's the best player in the league.

It's between Gianni, Embiid and Jokic as of now I feel. Freak steadily improving on his FT% is a great, quiet bonus for his candidacy as well. Durant's injury and the Bulls looking a bit mortal leaves a lane for the Bucks to potentially vault into the top two seeds given how close things are in the East. Denver is also quietly climbing the standings out West. The post-ASB playoff push will be quite telling for the MVP race. I've noticed a concentrated effort by Gianni to downplay regular season match-ups, but I think he's going to turn on the jets a bit after All-Star weekend as the Bucks will try to get into the Top 3 for home-court. Honorable mention should go to LeBron who's having a great season but the Lakers are a mess.

I just saw that Embiid has snuck past Gianni in the PER rankings. Highest three PERs are:

Jokic- 33.23 (1st all-time so far, insane efficiency)
Embiid- 31.43 (His best all-around season to date, also like Top 12 all-time I think)
Gianni- 30.99 (Basically his avg for the last four seasons)

Normally guys like Steph and Durant would be hovering near 30 but those three are way ahead of everyone else. LeBron is the closest with 27.39

I sure hope the voters don't base their selections on PER. That's only a little bit better than PPGZ!

PER is just a nice snapshot of offensive efficiency. Obviously way more matters for the criteria for MVP. Like defense, team record, record against good opponents, etc. I'm of the opinion, though, that those aforementioned three beasts are the three best players in the league at the moment. While Jokic is not the defender of either Embiid or Gianni he has made great strides as a smart team defender at least being in the right position.

My wife's Serbian uncles are firmly of the belief that defense is not part of the criteria for MVP because it has its own award.

I don't believe anybody who says they actually watch all MVP candidates. I don't care who they are, journalists, coaches, players, I just don't believe it, it's too much work. Highlights and basic stats only.

So you just happened upon someone who watches PHi games or saw some Embiid stats or highlights somewhere and said wow this guy is great.
That's my theory.

Random but just looked at basketball reference, and this is the first time any box score stat is bolded (League leading) in his top box. Just kind of crazy to me his greatest is more about everything he does than hanging his hat on one thing.

He always tends to bring the goods against Philly and Embiid. Only poo poo game was two christmases ago. Thursday's game should be entertaining as hell.

Don't look now but Giannis's PER is 0.03 behind Jokic but those 2 and Embiid are all having the best season of all-time. If Giannis stomps Philly and Embiid on Thursday then the narrative will hopefully pick up. The stats are already there

It would be nice if Giannis wins MVP, scoring title, DPOY and FMVP . It will cement his place as an all time great
