Here is an interesting profile on Malcolm’s agent, Danielle Cantor:

She talks a lot about Malcolm in here, and note her boss/partner is David Falk, so Greg Monroe also referenced, albeit briefly.

Yeah, we'll probably never know if it was one thing that made him not want to be here or a bunch of little things but it is CLEAR that he did not want to be here.

You have to read between the lines with Brogdon but these comments are noteworthy. Before this, I was less concerned with his racism comments about the city and more concerned with the complete lack of interest Brogdon ever expressed in resigning here. Hill, Middleton, and Lopez were all public in their desire to return to the Bucks. NBA insiders leaked that they were motivated to get a deal done with the Bucks. There was none of that with Brogdon.

I don't see how it is clear. This is ridiculous.

If we wanted to keep Brogdon, we could have. But we chose Middleto, Bledsoe, and saving money over him. I think it was the wrong choice, but we will see what happens.

There's a hole in my heart, as big as deep as well for that little Malcom, with two bad feet and overpaid as hell.

The evidence is there that the owners did not want to pay the luxury tax this year. We could have matched Brogdon's deal, but didn't. We could have moved $700,000 from Hill's first year to a later year and kept the TPE to get someone via trade, but didn't.

4 of those games were against a Detroit game with a hobbled Blake Griffin. We very well may have swept them without Brogdon and Middleton combined. They played well without him against Boston, obviously. But I think it's relevant that we were 11-7 without him the regular season. Having Hill and Matthews should help but I still wouldn't be surprised if we took a slight step back this year unless Giannis takes yet another step forward, which he might.

It's interesting that people ignore the playoff games when this conversation comes up, then proceed to only look at context for the playoff games after the 7-1 playoff record is brought up. The fact of the matter is that we were 18-8 without Brogdon last year, which is obviously very good.

Maybe we do take a step back, but I don't think bringing up record w/o him last year helps that argument

It’s interesting that people think sweeping an awful Detroit team who’s star player was injured without Brogdon means we are better without him. Our lack of outside shooting next year is scary. Without Brogdon, Ersan, and Mirotic, it’s only going to be easier for teams to defend us similarly to the way Toronto did.

There have been zero indications he wanted to be here and lots of hints that he didn't want to be here. Didn't mention the Bucks once in his press conference today minus some thinly veiled shots.

Anyone who can watch that press conference and honestly say Malcolm wanted to be a Buck is out of their mind. Yes, we COULD have matched. Given the circumstances, we definitely shouldn't have matched.

These same people were probably trying to claim a few weeks ago that the Warriors were better without Durant, since the had a solid record without him.

Who said we are better without Brogdon? That's just a straw man. The argument is that the team showed that they can perform without Brogdon, and adding Matthews and Lopez also helps soften the blow. Let's not forgot the picks that we received that could help us out further down the line.

Losing Brogdon hurts, not insurmountable though.

Yep, unless they traded Bledsoe and handed Brogdon the keys to PG no way he would have been emotionally invested in this team. I think he's professional enough to have handled it but no way would they have gotten his best effort every night. He'd have been miserable. Which, I think he was toward the end with his role.

Back when Woelfel reported one of the 4 didn't want to be here. Most surmised it was Middleton and I surmised Brogdon. He's just always seemed tepid to me. You've got an incredibly hard worker who's also quite ambitious. It's not hard to see that the guy just wants a bigger role. He wasn't going to be that here. He was 4th in the pecking order.

Even all if all the perceived “hints” and conjecture are accurate , you still bring him back. He’s not the type of dude who’s going to tank a season or ruin chemistry. Too close to a title to downgrade.

The injury concerns alone are a valid enough reason not to match. It's not like we passed on a 4/60 deal.

We’ll see. It’ll be interesting if Brogdon or Brook Lopez plays more games throughout the course of their contracts, which I’m aware are not the same.

Are we forgeting how Brogdon looked with Delly next to him trying to play PG?Before Bledsoe came here Brogdon was repeatedly getting torched by quick guards and although he can create a little,it isnt to the point were he can be the primary ballhandler.
How many times did we see him try to probe the defense only to take a stroll through the paint with his head down?

I think last year's role was perfect for him and what he is good at.That said,i don't expect his numbers to go down away from Giannis(they didn't when he was on the bench) since he likes to go to the basket and Giannis got in the way of that. But i think his production has already peaked(or it is close to it) and the injury concerns are legit.

I expect point guard Brogdon to be a massive failure. He can't create and has tunnel vision. How many times on fast breaks did he pass to anyone?? Let alone open floor god Giannis.

I think the choice between Brogdon and Hill/Matthews/picks is quite close, but I'm mostly interested in the decision-making process itself. Did they truly prefer the combination of Hill/Matthews/picks, or did they prioritize avoiding the tax? I'm good with Horst making a team-building judgment call, but if the owners prioritized their wallets over the needs of a legit title contender, I'll be livid.
