Any Cliff's Notes?

Couple things I guess I hadn't heard:

1) Portland initially asked for Bam or Jimmy in return and Miami was so offended by that ask that they felt Portland wasn't being serious. Talks never really took off.

2) Dame wasn't going to play in Toronto under any circumstances. Flat out didn't want to go/live/play there.

3) Milwaukee and Brooklyn were his preferred destinations after it was obvious a deal with Miami wouldn't get done.

It’s still surreal. I can’t believe the Milwaukee Bucks made this kind of trade. What an era of Milwaukee basketball we’re living in. A superstar level player prefers Milwaukee or Brooklyn over all other teams!

I also forgot how good of a player Dame is. Watched his 22/23 highlights and realized that this guy puts up 30+ points and 7+ made threes a game as the number option on a regular basis (usually double-teamed). Imagine how much easier it’ll be for him to get good shots on the Bucks. And he’s actually a pretty good passer and ball handler. We’re in for a treat as Bucks fans. We’ve never ever had this level of PG in my lifetime as a Bucks fan.

Seriously.

This is like the best fit in the history of fits.

This keeps Lillard or Khris focused on offense where they are best.

I think that MarJon can guard 2-3 with his good combo of length, strength, and quickness but I don’t think he is guarding the quicker 1s. Although at summer league he was losing focus off ball at times.
Gortman was doing a good job of defending PGs in summer league and Andre was doing well stopping dribble penetration or chasedown blocks if they did get by him.

I wonder if some of these people have watched an actual entire Bucks game. Not just highlights, but an entire game with full attention while not glued to Twitter. Like yeah, Grayson is a good shooter, in the regular season, against regular season intensity, versus teams without elite wing length. He's hesitant and not useful against playoff intensity if the other team has any wing length to threaten him with close outs/tight contests.

I know some people get annoyed by people being annoyed by talking heads, but this isn't annoying - it's hilarious. Pure comedy right now on ESPN.

Wanted to get the deal done before Media Day on Friday so they could move forward with this being Scoot's team.

They know they can get at minimum a young player and a pick or two picks and expiring salary for Jrue.

I read it the opposite way. That Goodwin still wanted to be in control of things and not say anything as it might hurt his client.

Which I guess could be viewed as tampering since the they were talking to an agent without the TBs knowledge?

I’m not a basketball expert at all but I think the media, fans and even teams are a little too stuck on good two-way players>great offensive, mediocre/bad defense players. Especially in this case with jrue (two way player doesn’t really apply come playoff time) and dame. Some guys offensive capability just breaks through the ceiling of “great” and many people don’t recognize that. Dame isn’t Jokic or Curry but he’s damn close without ever having the personnel around him.

Our defense for sure is going to suffer with a bad defender like dame out there but the offensive potential just makes us such a better team come playoff time.

We’ve really been in the 04 pistons mold during our contention the last 5 seasons and while that’s great, I think focusing on being a good offensive/good defensive team vs being a mediocre offensive/great defensive team gives us more versatility and makes game planning against harder come playoff time.

Watching highlights of Dame....insane how little space he needs to get his shot off (which actually reminds me a bit of Middleton).

And everyone is talking about the Dame/Giannis pick and roll....Dame/Brook won't be easy to stop either.

Maybe the most underrated benefit here....we *finally* have a crafty guard who can draw fouls. With all the fouls Giannis soaks up, we are going to get so many cheap free throws in the penalty to help the offense.

Also: Stotts needs to take a page out of Kerr's playbook and have Lillard setting back screens for Giannis and cutters. Absolute chaos will ensue.

CP3+Kuminga+Moody+28 1st works salary wise and I'd assume the Blazers would be happy with that.

It also works without Moody, but then I'd think Portland would want another pick or swap and the only option in that case currently is a 27 or 29 swap because the Warriors have a bunch of picks lock up until one conveys in 24, 25, or 26.

CP3 wouldn't be a bad mentor for one season for Scoot and Kuminga would be their PF of the future so they can then ditch Grant sometime after January 15th when he is trade eligible.

All this random Grayson Allen love is a perfect microcosm for how these dudes view everything with small market teams. There's no quicker way to go from complete-afterthought-rotation-guy, to "this guy is an underrated player and started 70-games!" than being traded to a bigger market team that casuals wanna talk about.

I suspect Middleton won't have much of an issue returning to a more secondary creation role and I suspect he'd benefit from it. But I'm especially curious to see if Midds can get back to the defensive effort levels he had in the Kidd era. I get that in an expanded role and with age/injuries, it's not reasonable for Middleton to the defender he was in his early to mid(d)-20's, but this team will need him to be a neutral defender.

Beyond that, what a thrilling trade. Should be lots of fun to see Giannis with such unreal spacing.

Khris is in the Klay boat. injuries and age. Still smart enough to chase dudes through screens and pick angles but physically shot on anyone who can move quickly.

Makes sense. Klay has always been a very underrated post defender and has the physicality to battle with power wings. But definitely not capable of chasing small guards. Hopefully, Midds' reduced load on offense can lead to more focus on defense. I'm sure the roster will change before the playoffs, but my one big concern with this Bucks' team is the porous defense at the guard/wing. Not one reliable POA defender outside of maybe Connaughton? Shame Jevon Carter left.

Cheat for steals to create chaos and intensity. Try to funnel free runnings to Giannis/Brook in the paint. You'll give up some easy buckets, but you'll get some too off the steals. In the playoffs, just be physical as possible and make the other team uncomfortable. Don't drop and let teams find a rhythm.

They just hired a defensive assistant as the head coach. He should be able to scheme them to be okay defensively with Giannis/Brook on the team and multiple good defenders on the bench even if we assume Dame and Midds are below average defensively.

Shower Thought: Giannis and Dame have to be first team All-NBA in random stardom. No GM or recruiting agency new of Giannis at age 17. Dame at 17 was the 100th ranked PG in his class and recruited to WEBER ST. Both will now be Top 25 players of all-time after 2 more rings.

I do expect a semi-disappointing start to the season. But once Giannis remembers that he can also be incredibly effective without the ball, then dear god.

I am also a little worried that Coach Griffin now has a tremendous amount of pressure to succeed. The Stotts hire will absolutely be clutch for this team.

Giannis, Dame, and three great shooters in crunch time. That’s terrifying. I have no idea how you stop a late game high PNR with Giannis and Dame without leaving at least one shooter, but probably two, open.

I don’t even know who leads this team in scoring. Probably Giannis, but would anyone be shocked if it were Khris? The guy will be the least guarded he’s been since he broke out and should no longer have the type of ball handling duties he’s had to have over the past few years. Obviously it could be Dame.

Giannis may average a triple double.

I got Khris having his best season ever if he stays healthy and stays at around 28-32MPG. I'm feeling something like 24, 7, 4 on great efficiency.
