Yeah, I listened to that the other day. With the two recent curb stompings of the LA teams, the NBA media has now put Giannis clearly as the best player in the league. No more equivocating or conditional compliments. They're starting to talk about him basically as the new LeBron.

If he can get two titles in the next three years, he then becomes the third name in the LeBron/Jordan debate.

If he wins two titles with this band of misfit toys then the only thing keeping him from surpassing Lebron is longevity.

They mentioned in the broadcast against the Lakers that Bud has encouraged Giannis to look for more catch and shoot three point opportunities instead of nearly always dribbling. So far this year, he's shooting 39% on catch and shoot threes. This deep one against the Lakers was pretty. His form looks so much better this year.

The nat'l media would probably only let him into the top-15ish discussion.

2 titles in 3 years gets him there. Think the media acknowledges he's as unique and revolutionary to the game as Wilt, Jordan, LeBron. The skillset would be amazing for a 6-3" guy. But he's 7-0"

Yea, not saying Giannis would be undeserving. But I think the arguments would be "guys like Magic, Kareem, Bird, Jordan, LeBron did it for a longer period of time" and idk why but as I was typing that I heard it in Chris Webber's voice...

4th highest USG% ever. Only Westbrook, Harden and Kobe have a higher season. Interestingly, all three copped a lot of flack for egregious stat chasing chuckery in those seasons but I'm yet to hear the same about Giannis.

In other pointless stat trivia, he's .2 of a PPG off double his logical PPG limit of 16 PPG max!

(inside joke for the newer posters)

Yep. 2 titles in three years probably comes with a couple more MVPs and maybe a DPOY. 6 all star appearances. Likely 4 straight 30-10 years. He won't have earned GOAT but people will definitely be asking the question.

I do think to actually be the best, a minimum requirement is to be the clear cut best over the course of your career and I think this year is really the first year of his reign, his MVP last year notwithstanding. Last year it was Is he the best? This year there's no question.

At this point it's basically will he be Shaq-tier or Jordan-tier when it's all written?

Giannis tier. Shaq's problem was work ethic. Not an issue for GA.

That’s a pretty good line of thought, with his floor now being Shaq.

He should encourage him to speed it up at the line. He spends too much time and gets in his head, IMO

Very smart of Bud to be looking at that, most players shoot a better pct on catch and shoot 3s and so far Giannis looks to fit that as well.

For me rather than going 'who is the best' player, I think of an all time starting five.

Jordan is the SG, LeBron the SF. For 6 months now I've thought Giannis is the PF.

PG and C is a bit of a **** fight though

Let's not take anything for granted. Giannis' greatness will be determined by his longevity. He's already surpassed the peak of the consensus greatest PF of all time, Tim Duncan. Giannis is scoring more than Jordan or Kareem ever did. But the GOATs are GOATs because they sustained greatness. We've seen countless players look destined for greatness and fall off a cliff. Tracy McGrady and Dwight Howard were consistently in the discussion for best player in the NBA when they were Giannis' age and a couple seasons later they were a shell of their former selves.

Did some math for **** and giggles
Giannis in the 2019 calendar year, so basically since January including play offs, has been shooting 33.1% from three on 4 attempts a game. For reference, Malcolm Brogdon for example shoots 34.6% on 4.3 attempts in Indiana. As a shooter Giannis is now basically the same as someone like Horford or Bazemore.

    1.8-5.1 34.2%.

He is hitting almost 2 3s per game. :o
