Miniscule contributions, we could have gotten .2 VORP from almost anyone playing that role on this team. Less 3 point shooting, but better defense, ballhandler, and passing.

Ah, must be why there are 320 guys who played in the NBA last season below that .2 VORP which you've randomly chosen as your end all be all. Never-mind that role type is, ya know, pretty crucial to fit when it comes to a team like ours. If only we had plugged and played .3 VORP Rajon Rondo and told him to space the floor for Giannis. Oh wait, he signed a two year 15 million dollar deal!

I guess I don't know how we could have gotten .2 VORP from anyone playing that role when 14 guys on our roster throughout the season didn't hit that mark. Again with these absolutely ridiculous, "they would have done it too!" statements. They literally didn't do it.

Let me take the time to remind you that Wes Matthews, last season, was a better defender, ball handler, and passer than Forbes, and he had a .1 VORP.

Have zero fan angst over that one. It was one of those one in hundred second round pick things. They happen. Just like 14 teams passed on Giannis.

That said, think it is fair to look at the drafts as a whole. In the 2014 to 2020 period, would think we'd stack up in the bottom third of NBA teams. Could be wrong though. But seems like we only got Brogdon and a half-starter in DDV from seven years of picks.

I was more or less amazed at his insanely high win share. I don’t even know what win shares are, I’m not an advanced metrics person. But I do know that when I was watching Jokic the dude is a winner and flat out does everything for that team. The draft is a crapshoot as well, I have no bitterness about misses. Regardless, I’m of a fan of his as a player I think he’s brilliant. I’d take him over Luka, IMO.

The contract that Hood got should tell you all you need to know about his chances for success this year. If any GM thought there was a good chance he could be a playoff rotation player, he would have gotten more than vet min.

Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? No.

Bonus Question: Will Merrill be a good player in the NBA? Ill answer that with another question: Can you name another player of his size and athleticism that became a good nba player?

Donte and Nwora for Finney-Smith.

I would trade Donte + Nwora for Goran Dragic to be honest.

I thing Dragic is a really good fit for us. Adds , shooting, playmaking, experience ...

I searched on youtube for the latest ideas about Dragic and I found this

Bucks would have two of the more hated/annoying players in Dragic and Allen, lol.

This trade does not even work, do not care what you found on youtube.

Also, why would you want Dragic over Dorian Finney-Smith? How does he fit the Bucks roster better than DFS?

Donte only makes $4,675,830 this year which makes matching salaries in trades for him tough.

That said, if the team is more committed to Allen than we are to Donte, it's not impossible we bail before we have to extend both of them this summer.

On the other hand Horst talked him up strongly enough that I doubt we'd trade him on the cheap at least:

Donte and I have talked about this a little bit and I’ve talked with his agents, that whole thing, it gets complicated. Injuries complicate things. But that doesn’t mean that we have a lack of information on Donte. We know who Donte is, we know what he can do on the floor. We have complete confidence in his health. This is not some sort of injury that he had that players struggle to come back from. There’s no questions on Donte.

It’s really just a question of what’s best for him, what’s best for us and at some point when we’re willing and able to have those conversations and really try to negotiate something, can we? And if not, it won’t be a reflection on what he thinks of us or what we think of him either. He’s on his rookie scale deal. We have another year on his rookie scale deal and if we don’t do an extension he’ll be a restricted free agent, if we do he’ll be under an extension.

We love Donte. We’re incredibly bought in on Donte. He’s our starting two guard and he was really good in that position and we missed him in the playoffs. I know we ended up winning a championship but we’re a much better team with Donte DiVincenzo than we are without.

I believe signing Donte an extension can affect the outgoing salary , PPP rule .

The “poison pill provision” arises if a team extends a player’s rookie scale contract, then trades him before the extension officially takes effect. It’s a rare situation, but it features its own set of rules, since extensions following rookie contracts often create a large gap between a player’s current and future salaries.

For salary-matching purposes, if a player is traded between the time his rookie contract is extended and the following July 1 (when that extension takes effect), the player’s incoming value for the receiving team is the average of his current-year salary and the annual salary in each year of his extension. His current team, on the other hand, simply treats his current-year salary as the outgoing figure for matching purposes.

Also, how is Dragic a better fit for the Bucks than Finney-Smith?

well, for one, those are two very different players. all other things being equal, i would prefer Dragic because he brings a lot of the things we are lacking on offense. Ball handling, playmaking, vet savvy.

Dragic
Jrue
Middleton
Giannis/Bobby
Brook/Giannis

That right there is pretty magical.

vs.

Jrue
Allen/DDV
Middleton
Finney Smith
Giannis

Why don't we get Bobby in scenario 2, and we traded away DDV?

The Bucks have already addressed some of what you are looking for in Hill and Allen. I think unlocking small ball lineups with a player that can switch 1-5 and shoot 40% from 3 on 5 attempts a game would be ideal. I would also then try to bring in Avery Bradley with the open roster spot.

Jrue / Hill
Allen / Pat
Khris / Ojeleye / Hood
Giannis / Finney-Smith
Lopez / Portis

Jrue / Allen / Khris / Finney-Smith / Giannis - small ball lineup.

Also, the Finney-Smith trade actually works, although I do not think Dallas does it.

I think the Bucks tried a strategy against the Nets and I don't think it worked. As good as KD was, we shouldn't struggle so much against a team that was basically KD, Harden on half a leg, Harris during a mental breakdown and the corpses of Griffin and Green who we made look like heroes. The Bucks got inexplicably locked down by the Nets defense of all things, we were averaging 120 PPG all year and the Nets cut us down to 102. And even though we had a distinct advantage in the paint, we just failed to bring the game into the paint and just kept shooting brick after brick. And letting KD play 1-1 all series was basically a disaster. Even though we won the series the Nets actually outscored us on average, defended better, stole more balls, shot better and passed better. We only beat them in rebounds and blocks. Basically we should not have won that series.

I think if the Bucks played that series again they would try something different. Unfortunately none of this experience will be applicable because next time it might be Harden or Irving killing you, you never know with this team.

I think we have more depth than we need. At some point, I would try to use 2-3 of DDV, Pat C, Allen, to upgrade our starting lineup.
still learning the game

I don’t think Bamba’s value is even half of what Donte’s is. Even with his injury. If the guy can’t show out on the Magic, I don’t think we’re missing anything.
