If all of the NBA players simply signed autographs at polling places on voting day that would have a 100x greater effect then anything being talked about.

If it weren't for Covid I would say this is a really cool idea.

The kicker is that those people wouldn't be able to actually vote at that polling place. So there wouldn't be voter fraud, but there would be a huge amount of congestion that would prevent the folks who actually need to vote there from getting to cast their ballot.

There is a relatively easy way to avoid this problem, though. You'd set it up at an early voting place, where anyone can register and vote via an absentee ballot.

It's illegal.

It's illegal to campaign within a certain distance from the polling place.

Yes it is but it's also illegal to encourage people to vote by giving away anything of monetary value even if you're not campaigning for any specific candidate. Remember those promotions where you could get a free donut if you showed a "I voted" sticker? Illegal.

Doesn't have to be campaigning. Signing autographs at a Wendys which just so happens to be next to a polling place is still just signing autographs if you present it that way.

I remember they use to(probably still do) give out packs of cigarettes in their get-out-to-vote operations, what's illegal and what they enforce are two different things it seems.

I reject off hand the idea of the multi-million dollar athletes in the age of social media celebrity aren't getting their opinions heard, its totally nonsensical.

Their getting their opinions heard. Whether it makes an actual difference is debatable. I think the impact is minimal IMO.

It hasn't gotten much publicity but the more than a vote organization LeBron James is forming has potential to be impactful both short and long-term.

Orange County mandating masks. I assume there is a waiver for professional sports. Florida on the rocket ship to pound town though.

I admire some of this boards optimism that the season will restart and there will be a playoff but I just don’t see it happening.

What is he talking about...not about basketball or safety? The NBA put out a 100+ page PDF detailing health and safety protocols, which leading health experts have said is about as good as it gets.

Curious if there was this much of a push back in restarting UFC, EPL, Bundeliga, Spanish Premier League? I didn't really hear much and they restarted a month ago almost. I know their case count was lower but damn.
